In The Deliberate Corruption of Climate Science, Dr. Tim Ball exposes the malicious misuse of climate science by dishonest brokers to advance the agenda of the progressive left. How was legitimate science twisted into a morass of convoluted gibberish? Dr. Ball explores how and why the science was distorted for political purposes.
This was a very good summary of the main arguments against the man-made climate change narrative as sold to us by the IPCC and its subsidiaries. However, I'm not sure it would serve as a good introductory book for someone new to the debate. Ball assumes some prior knowledge of the main players and the many environmental agencies and think-tanks.
Deliberate Corruption contains plenty of graphs and a clear explanation of how the data has been manipulated, the science controlled, and the AGW narrative protected against reasonable scientific skepticism. Also contains the best explanation I've read about how climate modelling is wildly inaccurate, impossible to use with our current data sets, and finagled to create the temperature rises that we just aren't seeing in the raw temperature data.
If you get the chance, it is well worth listening to Dr Ball speak. He is refreshingly jargon-free and has a healthy sense of humour.
It's hard to know what to believe about climate change (née global warming) but it's pretty easy to believe the level of deception used by the climate researchers and activists. Any group that shuts down discussion and labels others as skeptics or deniers should be suspect. Leaked emails and manipulation of data , collusion on peer reviews all things that the media covers up. Billions being spent for no reason. Environmentalist who believe the real solution is fewer people living poorer lives.
The author makes a strong case for the prosecution: global warming is a hoax, perpetrated by behind-the-scenes political operators that assumed (from the outset) that humanity is a blight on the planet and civilization should be destroyed. Their weapon of choice? Fear of environmental catastrophe, driving unsustainable reductions in energy production and utilization.
I'm giving the book three stars because it could be shortened by at least a third without sacrificing any relevant fact or argument. Nobody firmly believing the dangers of "climate change" will ever finish this book, and the already skeptical will be bored a fraction of the way in.
Packed with information (almost too much) about the disturbing corruption of climate studies and the virtual destruction of the scientific method when political aims and money get involved. It could have used a better editing job, though. It had some typos and a few grammar issues. The author also repeats himself in places, but most of the time it is to merely remind the reader of the previous evidence so it can be placed in another context. The graphs he uses could also be rendered better in the digital version. I would still recommend this book, but wish it could be cleaned up a bit and made a little more general reader-friendly.
Very good information on the political origins and goals of climate alarmism
This book offers invaluable information on the political origins of climate a alarmism and it's true goal -- bring down advanced industrial societies. It's major drawbacks are poor proofreading and repetitiveness. I would guess that these chapters were originally free-standing pieces. Nonetheless, despite the sometimes tiring slog, it is well worth your time and attention.
If you read no other book on climate change, read this one regardless of where you stand on the subject. A brutal reality check on the commonly accepted information about anthropogenic global warming.
Tim Ball has studied climate both scientifically and academically for over forty years. He writes: “I watched my chosen discipline—climatology—get hijacked and exploited in service of a political agenda. Some call the human-caused global warming theme a hoax, but that’s incorrect: a hoax is defined as a humorous or malicious deception. There is nothing humorous about the corruption of climate science.” This is a great guide for skeptics—meaning, real scientists—of man-made global warming. He cites the brave admission by German Physicist and meteorologist Klaus-Eckart Plus: “Ten years ago I simply parroted what the IPCC told us. One day I started checking the facts and data—first I started with a sense of doubt but then I became outraged when I discovered that much of what the IPCC and the media were telling us was sheer nonsense and was not even supported by any scientific facts and measurements. To this day I still feel shame that as a scientist I made presentations of their science without first checking it. …scientifically it is sheer absurdity to think we can get a nice climate by turning a CO2 adjustment knob.” If someone so knowledgeable about the subjects of meteorology and atmospheric physics can be so readily deceived, it is not surprising that the general public was deceived. Science is a process of discovery, it can describe but not explain (in terms of what we should do about some issue). In other words, scientists can build the A-Bomb, but whether or not we drop it requires different considerations beyond mere science. Science progresses by dissent, not consent. In that spirit, if you are interested in this issue, read this book and decide for yourself if climate science has been politicized. I believe Dr. Ball’s case is compelling that it has.
This is not really a book as it is more a compilation of contradictory quotes by the IPCC and climate scientists. I gave it 3 stars since it pretty much shreds the global warming myth that’s been promulgated since shortly after Time magazine ran the headlines about the coming Ice Age. Now if you’ve noticed it’s not global warming anymore but climate change. No kidding the CLIMATE changes! Tell that to the dinosaurs and wooly mammoths they are true believers. The Medieval Warming Period from about 1,050 to 1,450 AD was warmer then it is now and I believe that was before industrialization and CO 2 was a big factor, but what’s real data to climate scientists?
Overall an excellent book by a top climate scientist. There are a few minot errors, like saying that the Wegman Report was done by the NAS. The NAS report was authored by North. Wegman's report was done for a Congressional committee. But, overall a great book.
