Drake Family #2

Surrender to the Night

Rate this book
Orphaned as a child, Jenna Cresswell was used to living by her wits on the rough streets of London. But a perilous secret forced the redheaded beauty to pose as a deaf girl and earn her keep at a tawdry tavern. There she was in the perfect position to overhear a plot against the American, Clay Drake, the only man who'd shown her any kindness. Intent on warning the ruggedly handsome Texan, Jenna sneaked into his bedroom in the dead of night. But before she could explain, Drake had her pinned to the bed, every sense alive to the magic of his exploring lips and hands.

Drake assumed his midnight visitor was a birthday gift from his London friends and enjoyed her surprisingly potent charms to the fullest. But in the morning she was gone, leaving behind a strand of red hair and the disturbing evidence of her innocence. Who had she been, and would she be as beautiful in the day as she had seemed in the shadows of the night? Drake was determined to track down his mystery lover, and turn one night of sweet splendor into a lifetime of passionate loving.

Don’t get me wrong...I love my husband...but I’ve spent a lifetime caught in a passionate affair. My lover taunts, teases, enrages, thrills, amuses, and ultimately satisfies. His name? Language. Readers, you know what I’m talking about. Whether written, spoken, or sung, words entice me as no other human invention could ever do. Okay, music is a close second; when you put the two together, the result is sublime.

Like most writers, I came to this devilish profession through a love of reading. I’ve worked as a crime reporter, teacher, librarian - challenges all. They culminated in the creation of stories of my own, both contemporary and historical. My wish is that you let them seduce you

I live in San Antonio with my husband, dote on five grandsons, and travel whenever and wherever I can. My photo was taken on the dock in Liverpool, England, in front of a modern sculpture of a “lamb-banana,” the artist’s whimsical cross between a lamb and a banana. This was shortly before an emotional trip to the boyhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

I must admit that I became totally invested in these characters. As outrageous as some of the plot lines were, it was OK since the heroine, Jenna, kept admitting as much. She was certainly spunky and courageous which was necessary to have stolen into Clay's bedroom in the middle of the night. She was presumably there to warn him of danger, but ended up in his bed, willingly losing her virginity. And it just got more incredible from there! But it was the love story that I was drawn to in a big way. You knew the HEA was coming. However, when it happened I still found myself cheering for them. A definite recommended read for lovers of old-school romance.

THE MEMORY OF HER KISS

But in the morning she was gone, leaving behind a strand of red hair -- and the disturbing evidence of her innocence. Personal Review: My very first venture to historical romance. It's meaty read. Evelyn Rogers was able to weave my emotions through her character and her gut wrenching plight. The elements are perfect. You are drawn to her personal hardship and the mystery and intrigue that surrounds her. In the end you are cheering for her triumph and of course, her love. My only regret is that Evelyn Rogers has not been able to recreate the same magic for me in all of her other books.
