This was a pain to read. I can only assume that 90% of the content was generated by ChatGPT. It was impossible to read more than two paragraphs at a time without wanting to gouge out my eyes. It is filled with utterly bizarre turns of phrase. Everything is apparently "intricate", "pivotal", or "crucial". My favourite part was on page 7, where the world's tiniest flowchart (JVM->JVM Internals) is described as follows: "In the captivating visual of Figure 1.1, we witness the seamless execution of a unique Java program across three discinct platforms: Windows, macOS, and Linux, all thanks to the JVM." Sure mate, whatever you say.
However, the content itself is a really good deep dive into the JVM. I hope someone with a modicum of editing skills will come around and salvage this book. The editors should be ashamed of themselves.
Alternatively, the book could be summed up in a couple of blog posts, which would have saved any readers hours of suffering.
Even for a book from Packt, this was surprisingly disappointing. Worth noting that even the author's name is misspelled on the cover, and is spelled in three different ways in the book. Honestly people, this isn't rocket science.
