Land poor, Elly leaves the family farm and heads to the big city to become something better than a waitress at a small-town diner. Though she’s succumbed to economic necessity and the siren song of her one-time lover, Alex, she can’t bear to give up the farm, which has been in her family for generations. As a motorbike enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I've picked up other books with bikes on the cover, only to be disappointed, that wasn't the case here. Alex loves her bike and it shows in spades.

The setting was also a bonus. I visited Calgary, Canada many years ago, and it was nice to return to the city, via this story. Both leads are likable, there's a bit of angst, nothing over the top, a bit of spice, and it just an all round great book.

My only quip is it ended too so

There is a lot of nice lovin' in this book. Weaving through it all is the passion of riding a motorcycle. Yes, there is some sort of magical bond between a rider and their bike. Also mixed in is the close connection to country living and the rush and exhilaration of city life. Elly is our country honey while Alex is our city-living-motor-bike-riding-bar-tending gal. The two briefly meet and click in the country, so when Alex catches a glimpse of Elly in the city, she makes a deliberate turn, a k ...more

This book is terrible. 250 pages of reading about what everybody is eating and no conflict whatsoever except for the insipid relationship between Elly and Alex, which isn't even that conflicted. I started skimming halfway through and then just gave up entirely about 3/4 through. Don't waste your time. There are so many good lesbian books out there. This is not one of them.

BETTING ON LOVE by Alyssa Linn Palmer is an interesting, yet usual F/F romance/ Lesbian Romance.
While, I do not usual read this genre, I found Ms. Palmer has written a tale that is intriguing as well as interesting. The attraction between Elly and Alex was compelling as well as consuming. Then you have Elly's best friend and occasional lover, Will, who is totally surprised by their attraction. Well written, with tasteful sensual scenes. Can Elly and Alex find happiness or will their past i
