Recently, I read the book The Prisoner and the Bomb. In this book, the author, Lauren van der Post, has a purpose of showing his experience during the Second World War. He specifically talks about the bombing of Hiroshima. I think the author's point is to show how people suffered and how their lives were changed because of this tragic event. The theme of this book is about the bombing that happened during the Second World War. It describes the lives of the people that were affected by the bomb and how it changed in many ways. I think indirectly the author is trying to tell society to learn from this mistake. I believe he is telling us to not let history repeat itself. In this book, the author shares his story though a descriptive style. He tells the story as if he were experiencing the event first hand. I think this method of writing is very effective for this book because the author experienced the event first hand and knows exactly how it felt at the time. He says that the pain was unbearable to have and watch others go through it too. The book shows the amount of pain the author and many other people had to endure. I thought the book was very well written and the details in the book were very good. In this book, I believe the details are very important to provide because the author is telling the story in a descriptive way. I think he does this because the author wants you to feel like you are experiencing the event first hand with him. I liked this book and would suggest it to many other people. If there was one thing I would change about the book, it would be to make the prologue part of the first chapter. The prologue had some very important information that I thought should be included in the first few chapters of the book. I have not read many other books like this one, but I still liked the book and would suggest it to others.
The purpose of “The Prisoner and the Bomb” is to give you an understanding of what Japan did and faced in the end of World War 2. Laurens van der Post (main character)has to get thrown in jail by the Japanese during World War 2. He created a rebel alliance inside the jail to find a way out of the jail. That rebel alliance had lots of secrets, for example, 2 secret radios, spies, people on the outside, and access anywhere inside the gates.
The theme of this book is that you should be happy for everything that you own. Almost half of the globe have all of the necessities for life. We have good clothing, a cozy bed, and freedom. In the story, van der Post had ripping khakis, ripping khakis shirt, khakis/cardboard hat, prison-made wooden clogs, and prison made medals to show that he was an officer.
This story is a narration (a story that goes through the events in the story in chronological order). This narration was very effective. He made the story sound like I was there with him the whole time. I could see what the jail was like. I saw the secret meetings. I even saw the treasures that belonged to the guard.
I liked this book overall, especially the fact that the book gave you information of World War 2. Japanese prison camps. I didn't like the fact that they left out lots of other information on the war. I would have the characters break out of jail. This story is unlike any other I have read. This book is a good book to read if you want information on Japanese camps in World War 2.
The author’s purpose for writing this book was to inform. The author had survived through a Japanese POW camp in World War 2 and he wanted to inform us on what had happen in the camp so that no human being will ever do it again. The theme was survival of the fittest. In these prisoner of war camps they were forced to work a hard labor and if you weren’t fit enough you probably died. They also go daily beatings. The author was trying to say that they took a lot of abuse daily and if they refused they would get kill right there or get tortured to death. The style was description. The author was telling as if you where being put right in the story. Yes it was an effective way of writing in this book. My opinion of this book was that it was a great book and the author had survived a great horror of living through a Japanese POW camp. I like that when he was in the camp how he would get communications from a secret radio that if you caught with you might get killed. I didn’t dislike anything about it. It was a great book. I wouldn’t change anything. No it is not similar to any other book I have read.
The author’s purpose for writing this book was to inform you. He had survived through a Japanese POW camp in World War II and he wanted to tell us about what went on in the camp, so it never happens again. The theme of this book was survival. In these POW's, (prisoner of war) camps they were forced to work a hard labor and if you were not strong enough you typically died. The prisoners also got beatings daily. He also talks about how they got abused and if they fought back, they often would get killed on the spot or tortured to death. The style of the book was description. The author made you feel as if you were there with him in the story. In my opinion, I think the book was good, but not great. I do like how the author made you feel like you were experiencing the horror and torture with him, but at times it was kind of boring. I would recommend this book if you like to read about World War II.
I read this under its original title - The night of the new moon. Simply the story of life in a Japanese prison camp. A must read - quite indescribable.
