“Sometimes love can be easier to find than purpose, but I don’t think it’s any less important.”

After the Rain is an emotional journey of two broken people who are both in a bad place. Both looking for peace, for healing, and just may find it in the most unlikely of places.

Avelina is a young woman who has been through far too much tragedy in her short life. She fell in love young, she married young, then it was all taken away from her. The beginning story of Avelina and J

This is one of those books where I read the blurb and immediately wanted to get my hands on the book. Not only is it described as an emotional second chance romance but a romance between a wrangler and a doctor, two people who are so opposite of each other and under normal circumstances would never have met. While this story started off strong, things started spiraling down after the 25% mark and though I didn’t outright dislike the plot and characters, I didn’t love them either.

I am very upset I have to shelf Renee Carlino's book as a DNF; I really have no other choice, though. After The Rain turned out to be very disappointing read. I couldn't connect with the plot, characters or anything else for that matter.

Avelina and Nate's story is one of the most emotionless, flat and boring stories I've read in quite awhile. The plot seemed to hold so much potential but the execution was horrible. It missed the spark 'Sweet Thing' had. There was literally nothing th

Omigosh. I can't wait for this book!!!!

It's a "deeply emotional" romance about a woman, Avelina, who falls for a handsome cowboy and after a whirlwind romance settles into married life with him on their ranch until a freak accident brings everything to an end. Meanwhile, Nate Myers was intending to follow in the footsteps of his father, a superstar surgeon, but a malpractice suit ruins his career and he retreats to a cattle ranch where meets Avelina!! <---- OMG!!!

After the Rain reminded me why I love reading. Renée Carlino created a beautiful work of art with this book. She drew me in, made me fall in love, shattered my heart, and pieced it back together.

You have to understand something about me. I read books to escape. My life in itself is beautiful. I have a loving husband, a beautiful daughter, and a job that I love. I wouldn’t change a single solitary thing about it. But the world is an ugly place and I’m reminded of it with every mean-spirited perso
Well this sits firmly on my "worst books ever" shelf. I hated it. I'm quite shocked that this came from Carlino because while I do think that the quality of her novels have declined since Sweet Thing, all have been enjoyable even if I did have some peeves. After the Rain was awful. I'm not quite sure how, after being in such a rut, that I didn't DNF it.

The amount of melodrama in this novel is threat level Charlie and all of it is either caused by or made unbearable by Ava. Ava is awful. She was

I couldn't get enough of this compelling, heart-wrenching, sexy and beautifully written story of second chances and new beginnings. I finished with tears streaming down my cheeks and a smile plastered to my face, so grateful for the time spent with these captivating characters who now hold a very special place in my heart.

Renee Carlino… you keep doing this to us and we fall for it every time. You paint this wonderful picture of a perfect life for your characters, where they have everything they could possibly dream of. You distract us, making us lose ourselves in their world. You make our hearts swell with joy and happiness, where excitement about what the future holds keeps us on the edge of our sea

"Forever is only now."

A heart-wrenching story of love, loss and finding what's most important in life. This story was such a roller coaster of emotions. One that I enjoyed.

Right from the start, my heart was ripped out. When Jake and Avelina met at a horse competition, there was an instant spark. Three months later, they found themselves married and living a simple life on a ranch in Montana. It was sweet and idyllic. But a freak accident and a devastating tragedy left Ava a widow. What a dev

This was my first book that I have read by Carlino... and I loved it. I was sucked in from the first page. I loved the style of writing. I loved the characters. I loved the setting. Hell, I think I even love Ms. Carlino.

This book was about love. Lost love. Finding love. Finding balance. Finding yourself.

I will be looking back to find more books by Renee Carlino! I am excited to read her again.

"Forever is only now."

WHAT A JOURNEY! The very first chapter of this book grabbed my attention. An instant one-clicker! The author takes you on Avelina's emotionally long journey to finding peace with the help of the young and handsome doctor, Nate.

Picture the worst tragedy imaginable happening to a young and happily married couple. Well, that's how AFTER THE RAIN begins. I don't believe I have ever read a book that started out quite that way. My heart was utterly broken from the very beginning.

I always know that when I read a book by Renée Carlino, it's going to be magical for me. After the Rain is such a book and more.

Your heart goes on a journey with After the Rain. It's a journey about love and heartbreak, new beginning and letting go of the past. The imagery in this book takes you to new heights. It's hard for me to put into words worthy enough for this book. So instead, maybe the trailer I made for it will help you understand:

Renee has outdone herself with After the Rain. All of her books have a very emotional quality to them but ATR was absolutely gut wrenching.

ATR is a beautifully dramatic story of one young woman's journey to love and forgiveness and the man who needs to be saved just as badly as she does.

Avelina falls in love quickly at a young age with her handsome cowboy. Life is perfect for a short time but when tragedy strikes, she is left to mourn the life she will never get back.

Nate is also struggling p

As much as I like Renee Carlino's writing style, this story just didn't work for me. I didn't bond with either of the main characters AT ALL and the story itself just irritated and frustrated me.

During all of the "emotional" parts, the only thing I felt was annoyed. I didn't get Nate and Avelina's connection and the conflicts seemed contrived and unbelievable.

This was ok. Felt very young adult to me. Avelina, the heroine, definitely had been through a lot, but she felt very immature. She over-reacted many times. Nate was a good hero but his formal speak just seemed so awkward. I was hoping for a bit more oomph based on the author's other books.
After The Rain is a sweet romance about finding your way back after being irrevocably broken. Avelina is lost and her soul broken after losing her husband and her love. Meeting Nate, a doctor, slowly makes her want to open up again but it takes time and trust.
I enjoyed After The Rain but I felt Nate was too pushy at times. He wanted Avelina there was no doubt about that but for me it was on a physical level. I needed their courtship to take their time. To establish a connection on the emotional

I don't know how Renee Carlino does it, but she manages to write these books I just absolutely fall in love with (while being emotionally challenged). But this one was a little darker than her previous books, the characters a little more broken, and their path to HEA a little less unsure.

Avelina was a teenager when she falls in love with a cowboy who sweeps her off her feet. She fully embraces the rancher life with her hot cowboy and wants for nothing. But her life is shattered when a storm spoo

I admire Renée Carlino's writing. It's full of emotions and simply beautiful. There were many things I liked about this book. The plot was good, and the dialogue was true to life and so natural. The secondary characters made me smile, they seemed so real and colorful.

I think the story itself was great but I had a problem with the two main characters, both the hero and heroine.

Even though there was enough depth to Nate's personality, I felt like I couldn't connect with him. I tried to under

Now this is how you truly write an emotional, feel good book. This book was such an emotional rollercoaster for me. I’m sure Ms Carlino did not mean to make it such a way but for me it felt like that. This book was very beautiful. It showed in a realistic manner how two flawed people can overcome their faults and it was written so beautifully.

Avelina was a tortured soul. Really. It was heartbreaking to wa

I noted a couple of outstanding characteristics about Renee Carlino’s writing while reading After the Rain, her third full-length contemporary romance. First, each story written by Carlino is very distinct from her previous novels. And second, her writing flows beautifully – something which has never been more evident to me then when reading this novel. After the Rain is a story about second chances, about recovering from tragedy, and about hope.

Is it possible for an author to get better with every book she writes? In Renee Carlino's case, it definitely is true!
Renee captured me with 'Sweet Thing' and 'Sweet Little Thing', she stole my heart with 'Nowhere But Here' and it went straight to my favourite book of all time. Then I read 'After The Rain', and it is now tied in the number 1 position of my all time favourites! To say I loved it would be an understatement. Oh my goodness, what an all consuming story! This showed up in my mailbox on Sunday and I dove in as soon as my kids were in bed. I'd finished over 3/4 before 10pm. It was like watching the best movie, which doesn't exist anyway because books are better than movies. My husband kept talking to me and I have no idea what he said. I also have no idea why he was trying to talk to me.
Anyway, I'm writing this review at 6 the following morning. So when you start reading After The Rain, make sure you bl

Absolutely Breathtaking Story!
Renee Carlino hit this one out of the park. Avelina didn't know what she was going to do when she met Jake - they wed quickly and moved onto a ranch and she was perfectly content with her life ... until a tragic accident changed her life in an instant. Nate was the best young heart surgeon around and when a surgery goes wrong - he finds himself taking a breather on his uncle's ranch. Nate fixes the physical heart and Ava's emotional heart is forever shattered. How c

I was fortunate enough to get to read this beautiful story before its release.
One of the things I admire most about Renee Carlino's writing is her ability to create such impeccable imagery where I feel like I'm a spectator, watching the story unfold in the background. This one is no exception. A big departure from her previous work, this one definitely will break your heart with its more solemn tone and make you ache in the best way possible with its slow burn.
