When an avid consumer of realism and naturalism jumps into a novel characterized as a "romantic comedy" the expectations for critical praise become lower. My preconceived image of Mischief in Italy was that it would be cute, rudimentary in structure, and destined to be forgotten due to the complete saturation of the market for such novels. I was expecting to like this book, but only in a generalized story-telling sort of way.

But my experience with Mischief in Italy was contrary to my expectatio

What fun! Mischief in Italy is a romantic romp at its best. A father who has not reentered life after losing his beloved wife. And a son who is living fast and heedless. The father begins to chide the son about his lifestyle and his son turns the tables on him. And it all takes place on a beautiful lake in sunny Italy. Misunderstandings and secrets abound and a romance that is light--a refreshing escape. Beautiful scenery, lively interesting characters and a happy ending after the explosion when ...more

I won this book during a Facebook party.

This was such a fun book to read! It is definitely a summer fun book. This does not mean that you can only read it during the summer. What it means is if you are wanting to take a book-cation and enjoy the summer time feeling, this book is perfect. It is set in Italy with a small part in Germany.

The book is told in first person chapters, told by four main people. Yes. That is right. Four narrators. I can imagine your thoughts right now. I myself would ha

3.5 stars. Loved this sweet romance set in Italy. The father/son relationship between Henry and Josh is based on mutual concern and their agreement leads down unexpected routes. I enjoyed the structure of the book with each chapter representing a different point of view from one of the characters.

This book was an absolute delight to read. Told through multiple points of view that are clearly indicated we get to see how this father and son relate. It is clear they are better at talking about finances than feelings. Henry and Josh both agree changes need to be made in both of their lifestyles and a challenge is set. Josh needs to rein in his playboy lifestyle and Henry needs to get a life, he has become a recluse since his wife passed away five years ago. So Henry agrees to post a lonely-h ...more

An American father and son live in houses on their estate overlooking Italy's Lake Garda. It is idyllic but lacking in love for both of them. One is a widower business investor, the other a playboy property developer. The premise of this romantic-comedy novel is simple:

Pretend to be not wealthy, to see if women will stay with them or want to be with them based on affection not greed.

Italophiles will enjoy the author's lovely feel for Italy:

Autumn was coming, and soon, the olive harvest would b

The book is a delight to read, a sophisticated comedy that has its roots in Bernard Shaw - but a revised, modern and up-to-date version, with the Internet as the means to bring together the most unlikely and often hilarious characters in a dream place on beautiful Lake Garda. It is also a well-constructed plot, with turns and twists, moving agilely from one point of view to the next, achieving thus unforgettable comic effects. Each character is given his own voice, the father, the son and the va ...more

An enjoyable story which introduced me to the beginnings of two romances set in Italy, one brought about because of an interesting ad, whereas the other stemmed from a young woman who couldn't seem to believe that her mother was capable of making her own decisions in the romance department.

I definitely had a few laughs at the shenanigans I read about and must admit to wondering how the proverbial crap would hit the fan when the time came that the secrets were exposed. I was immensely pleased wit

This is a fun romp through multiple perspectives to come up with a silly and ridiculously enjoyable read. The writing style had a cute bounciness as it tripped through different characters' points of view. Both romances were sweet and created their own stories which, both of which you were anxious to have turn out well. I must say that I really loved this change of pace and delightful book. And it convinced me that I apparently have to visit a magical place called Lake Garda to see just what kin ...more

This is a lovely romantic story with a lot of turbulences. Even though the course of the story is predictable, the different twists and turns are amusing. A German woman would like to be in Italy because she would like to flee from the nasty weather in Hamburg. Therefore, an ad from an old geezer, which she saw on an Internet platform, was just the right reason for going to lake Garda. Thenceforth, the story is taking its run with confusions, traps, lies and a lot of love.

2.5/5.0

The thought that your parent might behave totally out of character, and the lack of control a child has over that is the basis for this amusing story. Each character is unique, with quirks that anyone can relate to; empty nester or not.

I loved this book. So many twists and turns and laughter and romance - it has it all. What a great premise - Dad & son each knowing the other persons needs - or not!! Mom & daughter living outside of their lives. It really works and was thoroughly entertaining.
