A Radical Decision
My darling girls: I can’t believe our time is coming to an end. We’ve been together for such a short time, but wow, fun times. You’ve caused me grief as well, but mostly it’s been an unbelievable ride. Especially our time in Key West. But the potential harm you could cause makes this radical step necessary. So I say: “Goodbye to you, boobs.”

Thea and her friends head off to Key West for one last hurrah before returning to school and facing the reality of Thea’s upcoming preventative double mastectomy. She’s looking for a good time, a break from the harsh realities of life, and she finds that time with Shay, a somewhat shy Key West boy who keeps her smiling until it’s all tears when she has to leave. He’s just a summer fling. A good time. A vacation for her mind and heart before she returns to the real world. But fate’s lined things

Thea is on vacation in Key West to take a break before she has a preventative double mastectomy. She's only looking for a good time but instead she finds Shay Kelly. Thea is funny and has a positive outlook on life, despite the possibility of developing breast cancer and the unavoidable surgery that she has to undergo. She knows how to have fun and is super lively but she is also really responsible and helps look after her sister who is in the middle of chemo.

When Thea and Shay meet their chemis

This sounded like it was going to be an emotional roller coaster, instead it was more focused on the relationship than the surgery itself. That's ok, the whole relationship was cute and adorable, I was annoyed with Thea not wanting to tell Shay about the surgery, and really couldn't understand her obsession like thoughts regarding her breasts. I thought she should tell him and her reasoning for not, that he would leave, we're kind of silly, however it sounded as though this happens to s

Thea is in Key West with her best friends to have a fun time and, hopefully for Thea, one last fling before she has a preventative double mastectomy. She sees, then meets, Shay in his uncle’s pub and the two hit it off immediately. They end up spending the rest of her vacation together which unfortunately was only about 4 days. During that time, however, they became closer and pretty much feel for each other. Reality has a way of rearing its ugly head and soon Thea is back to her real life and S ...more

I'm giving this book a 5 for several reasons. And these are in no particular order.

1. Shay. I'm just saying. Yes, he's got the looks that we all love to drool over...oh maybe I'm the only one who actually drools...but he's also a good guy. In the book world of bad boys (which I also like to read sometimes) it's so nice and refreshing to read some honest to goodness good guys. Not that he's perfect by any means but what he does for her erases any moments of douchery. (Honestly. That's a word.)

Man! I went into this so prepared for a massive ugly cry book and I was pleasantly surprised that it was nothing of the kind. What I got was a book that was smart, funny and just happened to deal with some tough subject matter.

Thea has made a major life decision to undergo a double mastectomy after testing positive for the cancer carrying cells and watching both her mother and sister struggle with the disease. A weekend away with her girlfriends encouraging her to have one last fling puts her in

The Kelly's of key west

Wow a story that touched my heart sad and beautiful Shay and Thea hero and heroine I loved the characters of this book and how the authors has researched the background of preventive surgery of a double mastectomy
The emotions of both Shay as a boyfriend and Thea as the woman who makes a big decision. This story really brings it home you can't help but be drawn in and feel like it's happening to you. I found myself questioning what I would do in Thea's shoes. It's an amazin

Sensitive Subject, But A MUST READ!!!

This is my first book from AJ Matthews, but absoutely not my last.

WOW, what a toughtful and wellwritten plotline. Cancer and mastectomy
are in my humble opinion a bit uncomfortable subjects for a romance novella,
but you will love this story.

You can feel all the emotions Thea runs through. When she tries to put
Shay out of her life more than one times with some really nasty remarks
- You know what, he didn't run to the hills. I love him, now searching

Thea is getting a double mastectomy. She is heading to Key West for a vacation with her friends to find a last minute fling before her "girls" are removed. Little did she know that she would run into Shay, the one guy that puts stars in her eyes when they kiss. She thinks pushing him away is what is best, but is that really the best thing??

This book is not what I expected. I clicked on the tour and thought the book sounded interesting, but one thing that is not mentioned is that this has a decen

3.5 Stars. I knew when I picked this book that it had the potential to be heartbreaking, I also sensed that it might occasionally border on infuriating. Luckily, it never quite reached the latter, but then it didn’t quite succeed with the former either.

This book is about boobs. Truly. Thankfully not just about Shay staring at them when Thea first spots him across the bar, or her thrusting them out at every opportunity because she’s pretty proud of them. That does play a part, of course, but it’s

Psychocat Reads Review of GOODBYE TO YOU by A.J. Matthews.
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review).

GOODBYE TO YOU found its way onto my To Be Read list a few months ago, so when tour sign ups opened, I jumped at the chance to read and review. When it popped up as the next book on the schedule, I actually put it off for a day. I was still in the throes of a rock star induced euphoria and knew I needed to let myself mentally change gears before tackling GOODBYE TO YOU

Goodbye to You by AJ Matthews is the 1st in the Kelly’s of Key West Series. Thea is in Key West for one final fling, looking for a quick one night stand before she has to say goodbye to her breasts. When Thea’s mom is diagnosed with cancer and passes away, followed by her sister Jen being in the middle of cancer treatment, Thea is tested for the brca1 mutation. Unfortunately, it comes back positive and she makes the difficult decision to have a preventative double mastectomy.

Goodbye to You, I knew, was going to be a heart wrenching story and Matthews did not disappoint. I wasn't sobbing but I did have a few tears that fell and the ending it was did it for me.

At first the book was a tad slow for me, not that I wanted to hurry and get to the steamy scenes, but that I wanted more time to learn about Thea and her love interest, Shay. I think their meet up went too fast, I wanted to hang out with them more, read a

Thea knows that this option will help in the long run, having already lost her mother to breast cancer and her own sister going through it now, she decide that this is the only way to deal with it. As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I was drawn to Thea’s story. It’s fresh twist on new adult romance, one with a darker core. Goodbye to You has one of the strongest opening chapters in the genre I’ve read in a long time. It hooks from the opening page. Thea and her friends head to the Florida Keys to squeeze in some hard partying before Thea undergoes a radical prophylactic mastectomy. This is not a decision any woman makes lightly and Thea approaches her decision with grace and humo ...more

It’s not everyday that you come across a novel about a young woman who is scheduled for a double mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery in a few days, only to meet the man of her dreams one night in a bar. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this novel, but AJ Matthews did a wonderful job. I wasn’t a fan of the main character, Thea until later on in the novel. AJ Matthews wrote the character of Thea very well, showing her as having accepted her fate at the beginning of the novel (almost writing he ...more

I loved this book!

Where do I begin?

Let's start with the MC. Thea is a fabulous MC. She is dealing with alot of life altering stuff when her last hooray turns into so much more!

I love all of the characters though Shay and Thea completely stole the show for me. I liked the moody and indecisiveness of Thea, it made her very human and real. I also liked that it was a gritty tale to tell and that nothing was sugar coated. Shay was a perfect fit for the story and he was well written.

I LOVE the plot!

"Goodbye to You" by A.J. While there, she meets Shay, a good-looking guy who seems to be as attached to her boobs as she is. Since Thea tested positive for the breast cancer gene, she's decided to have a preventative double mastectomy. Shay is shy and has been focusing all his energy on getting into med school.

Goodbye to You is a book about something that could happen to any of us. Thea as a college student who finds out that she tests positive for a breast cancer gene marker. She opts for a double mastectomy and it afraid of how she will be seen differently without her original breasts. The author captured the imagery of her emotions perfectly.
