Today a buck gets you a quick burger (or two), but what’s the real cost of that meal? The rates of chronic disease—specifically diseases like diabetes, caused by our lifestyles—have grown exponentially in recent years, edging medical expenses ever higher while threatening to give America its first generation to actually live shorter lives than their parents. Unfortunately ...more

Great praise for Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan for going out on a limb to explain to us everyday people who may be too busy,, about our food crisis and how we can help. I think this is one "must-read" book. We are being bombarded with food advertisements constantly: for processed and fast foods. We are seeking quickness.RIGHT NOW!!! We have to rise up together and yell enough is enough, and also reeducate ourselves about the great benefits of fresh food straight from the growers. They need help also ...more

Most of us have become more conscious of the choices we make at the supermarket as new information has become available showing how our food supply is full of unsafe products. I have read a few books and magazine articles, but my eyes were never opened completely before reading this book.

The surprising thing to me is that the author of this incredible book is a Congressman. He names names and tells us about the people and companies who created this mess. He also tells us which of our elected off

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley.

This is kind of a weird book. I am pretty well read on the topics of food/community/sustainability, and there was definitely some new material – or at least new perspectives – that I wasn’t familiar with prior to this book. I think that it’s probably a good primer in some ways for people who aren’t familiar with the many problems of our current food system. However, I think it was very clearly influenced by the fact that the author is a congress

Although highly American based, this book is an interesting eye-opener about what goes on both politically and industrially with the food industry in America, which also spills out to the rest of the world, especially the western world. Although Ryan is politically motivated to speak out, he is also personally motivated and is trying to both personally and politically change the way the food industry in American operates. Obesity and diabetes - America's big new modern diseases which is now note ...more

This is a very well-researched and informative book about the problems surrounding food production and marketing in the United States and what can be done to make things better. It sounds like Congressman Ryan has been voting to make things better and is involved in a wide variety of groups that are working to make US food production healthier for us and better for the small farmers as well. From the effects on the environment to nutritional value to the local food movement and more, there is a ...more

"The Real Food Revolution" is Congressmen Tim Ryan's call to arms to change the US food system for the better. This is a very personable, timely and well written book. I am very impressed with an elected official who actually is doing his job - doing what is right for the people of the US. He truly understands that "you are what you eat" and is working diligently to make what we eat in this country healthy, environmentally friendly and reasonably priced.

This is a well researched book and convey

This book is so eye-opening and educational in terms of the state of our current food supply. I think many people have blinders on when it comes to the food they eat and what they give to their families. I learned so much and at the very least, will definitely be more aware of the quality of food I choose in the future. There are many sources listed for those who want to learn more or become involved in changing the future of our food supply. This should be required reading for everyone who eats ...more

It was a good book that referenced a lot of other books I have read. It did not have much new to me information it it but it was a quick read and nice to know that someone in Washington is looking for change in our food system.
