Somewhere along the line Carr is letting us down from the tradition of Piper. It took me a while to think about that, but it is what I have arrived at. Carr has plotted out the entire arc, and along the way he seems to have decided that more time is needed with the characters of his and Greens own invention from when they wrote Great King's War.

Considering that book prices have come down to something reasonable, this series is extremely high priced to allow a world that Piper made, become the pl

Series continues to be great.

I've loved this story for decades. I glad that it is continuing to expand. Just read the first two books and you will be hooked also.

I was so excited to just one month ago discover that the Lord Kalvan series had been continued and I knew nothing about it. I eagerly bought Great Kings' War and was treated to a wordy and endless story that really failed to grip me. It also seemed to be veering away from Kalvan and to more of the author's own characters. I read the summaries of the next books in the series and decided to just read this one, the last one published, just to find out how everything ended for Kalvan and his folk.

Great extension on H.Beam Pipers master work

greater teaser to the final book. This is hoping that Carr can write fast.Looking forward to a satisfying conclusion to a series I first started reading in Analog in the sixties

Almost every other entry in commenting about this is totally accurate.

The series started to go downhill with the entry of Prince Phidestros.

He has become a Marty Stu. Every defeat does nothing to him. Every action which occurs around him somehow works out to his profit. He never makes a mistake. Any defeat happens to someone else and he gets praised and promoted. HE is the 'hero' of the story, not Kalvan.

And MY GOD the endless and effusive assertions of love between Phidestros and his Horse Face
