H.M. Ward continues to reign as a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author who surpassed more than 23 million books sold, placing her among the literary titans. Ward has been featured in articles in the NEW YORK TIMES, FORBES, and USA TODAY to name a few.
This book is totally amazing, it's ideal for teenagers and their parents.
Personally, I can relate with the characters **not the abuse**, every teen wants to feel respected and be treated like they're adults by their parents and those they look up to.
H.M Ward carefully and perfectly constructed and recreated this part of teen years in this book, and those puns like "G.I Hoe", so cool. I totally love this book, feels as if it shouldn't come to an end
I loved this series but parts of this book was so frustrating, the constant back and forth of "I want to tell her, no don't tell her" Then Mari with the same thing "I want to say something to him, no don't say anything to him", ugh. The times Trystan and Mari were together were fantastic, you can feel the chemistry. Then he writes a song about her, and sings it but in the shadows so no one knows it is her, and she doesn't really know it is about her I keep thinking come on already, then finally I think something is going to happen and they are going to speak their minds and ..... that is all I am going to say about that. It broke my heart reading about him being hungry, I always worry that he must be starving because he never eats and his father is cruel and hateful, Trystan has to go through so much awful stuff in his home but we also got to read what Mari goes through in her home. Yes they are two different worlds but they are both being hurt by their parents. I like how the one teacher is trying to look out for Trystan and trying to get him to see that he is not worthless. His so called best friend deserved everything he got, plus more. I loved the scene between Trystan and Mari, the tickling scene and was thrilled that she finally took it upon herself and made the first move. I like how Trystan is always thinking about her, trying to make sure he doesn't do anything that would cause her any trouble. He is always thinking of her first. I wasn't really that surprised by what Trystan told Mari about his experience level in the bedroom, I think it is perfect and just shows once again who he really is. I never would have thought Mari would come to his house and then to get there at that precise time. I still could not believe what his father did. Then I did not understand why the police acted the way they did and it broke my heart how Mari's father spoke about her and what she must of been doing that night. Once again Mari and Trystan together is beautiful, I love them as a couple, they complete each other. It hurts my heart to know that Trystan has no where to go, not really, yes he can stay with her but it is still not the same as having your own home. I think it is so special that Mari gets to step in and take over the role in the play and everyone loves her. I think Katie and Seth would be great together, there is chemistry there already. I hate what happens with Brie, what Mari is made to do and then what Brie ends up doing at the end of the book. What happens toward the end of the book is terrible, Brie doesn't think of anyone but herself, right from the start I want to punch Brie, the conniving witch, I was really happy about what happens to her later. I hate that Trystan was bombarded like that at school but at the same time I am glad that this part if finally being wrapped up. I was happy that Mari and Tyrstan finally came clean and told their best friends about them being in love. I still think Seth and Katie are perfect for each other, not really happy about Seth's future plans though. Wow how Mari's father acted with Trystan and Mari, he is just as bad as Trystan's father just a different kind of abuser. I think it is great that Mari takes it into her own hands to map out her future and I love that Mr. Tucker is helping Trystan with his future. You can read between the lines how worried both Trystan and Mari are about what will happen to them as a couple once he signs a deal and leaves the area to make his music. I want them to make it, I hate always reading the stories where one person goes off and becomes famous and forgets about his true love back home only to return years later and wanting her back, I want them to work it out from the start and keep their relationship going strong the whole time, wouldn't that be unique for a change. It is wonderful the reception they get after their performance in the play and the surprise that Mari got was wonderful, even if part of the equation was missing. At the end of their performance when Trystan decides to speak to the reporters my tears began to fall and didn't stop until the last word was written. I loved how he spoke about loving Mari, her not knowing, writing the song for her, about his mother leaving him, his abusive father, and him being Day Jones. Then he sings for them, makes the announcement regarding his future and I love the surprise he gives someone, and then him kissing Mari's hand with Holly's beautiful last words was the perfect ending.
I am not going to try to hide how much I enjoy HM Ward and all of her books! If I ever had the chance to meet her, I might scream like a crazy Justin Bieber fan…and yes, I am a grown woman. The small pieces we get of Trystan Scott in Stripped enticed me to want more of his story and we are provided just that in these five books rolled into one collection.
These books are set in high school which changes the writing style for Holly. The innocence and sweetness of Trystan and Mari is enjoyable. When it comes to each other, they clearly both want more from each other but can't seem to tell each other. Which I would say is typical for this age and it was nice to remember how much "love" could throw you off axis in high school. Trystan and Mari are clearly best friends as they spend a huge amount of time together. Trystan seems to be having a more difficult time handling his feelings so he decides to post a video of a song he sings for Mari. It goes viral and everyone wants to know who the singer is. Mari soon finds out that Trystan is the singer and is intrigued who the girl could possibly be.
Although Mari and Trystan are from different sides of the tracks, they both suffer at home. Trystan has a father who blames him for his mother leaving, beats him and starves him. It broke my heart reading through the tense times Trystan goes home. Mari is from a much wealthier family but is treated as a nuisance by her parents. Her father is verbally cruel and her mother ignores her. Both situations are hard to read especially if you are a parent yourself.
I have to mention how much I love Mr. Tucker, an English teacher and head of the theatre/drama department. He is constantly on Trystan to make good decisions and watching over him. Teachers are so important at this age and hopefully everyone has a teacher that Mr. Tucker reminds you of from your days in high school. His guidance and advice are invaluable to Trystan and Mari.
The ending to the book isn't really a cliffhanger but I felt robbed of my happily ever after. Although that isn't really true, you wanted an epilogue. Of course, HM Ward is going to provide something even better. A book about Trystan and Mari as adults. Based off what we have seen of both Mari and Trystan in the other Ferro books, I can only imagine what has happened since the ending of this collection. I will be waiting patiently…or at least as patiently as I can wait. Fangirl scream!
The Secret Life of Trystan Scott was originally written as a series. I read the story when written in the 5 volumes, and none disappointed AT ALL! In true H.M. Ward fashion, each book ended with a cliffhanger that left you wanting to know more. But to have all volumes now in one book is awesome because you don't have to fish out the next volume...all that needs to be done is turn the page.
This is a great read by H.M. Ward that, at times, left me with a tight feeling on my heart because I felt for the characters and some of the situations were too intense that I felt myself feeling what they were feeling. My emotions went up and down when reading this series and I wouldn't have asked for anything else different.
Being a young adult series, there is some teenage angst and I loved the main characters, Trystan and Mari, in this series. To have the series written in both of the POVs, we get to know what each of them is feeling and learn what their lives are truly like. They showed us how family life can shape the way they do things and act in front of others. Trystan has it the hardest because he has to hide the horrific physical abuse from his father to ensure no one suspects in school. Mari also has to endure the abuse from her father, which it's emotional, which makes her seem like the perfect daughter that gets good grades.
But it's their mutual love that had me on pins and needles. Not knowing what the other was feeling was gut wrenching because from the first moment you realize that they love each other, you want them together. And once they are together, it's their mutual love that clenches to your heart and you don't want anything bad to happen to them. The secondary characters, Katie and Seth, are also great in this series because they add a bit of comedy to the story line.
What I also love about this series is that their story doesn't end there. By having all volumes in one book, it prepares the reader for the upcoming book, Broken Promises, which picks up 3 years after the story ended. We do get a glimpse of Trystan and Mari in the Ferro Family Series of books, and gives us clues as to where they are now and how their relationship may have changed.
Trystan Scott has some secrets from his home life to girl he's fallen in love with, but Trystan doesn't believe in love until it actually happened to him! What a tragic bittersweet story! The more I read the more I fall for Trystan and really hope that him and Mari get their HEA! The things that Trystan has to go through broke my heart but the way Mari was there to help is amazing, but like most of H.M Wards books she leaves you wanting and needing more!
Trystan and Mari’s love is so palpable you can touch it. It burns hot and they survived abusive parents. Physical, verbal and emotional. Some parents are just not cut out to be called that. Period. So, after all the ups and downs, and the drama, Trystan is made. How will he manage it? I want to know. Good emotional story. Love it. The secondary characters were hilarious. Kate and Seth should totally get together. Just saying.
The Secret Life of Trystan Scott was my first H.M. Ward book. I'm really glad I got the entire collection at once because the author ended each series part on a major cliffhanger. I loved the author's style of writing. Really emotional and she dived deep into the characters' point of view. Wonderful ending. (Audio version)
I cannot believe the high ratings for this book. It was a total wallbanger and seemed like it was written by a 16 year old. I bought it because I liked Secrets. I can't remember how many times I rolled my eyes. Truly awful.
The entire series is so repetitive it could have been a third in length if the author didn't repeat herself so much. Plus, Ward used the word "retarded" to describe the way a character was acting. That alone is reason enough not to read this book. If you can't find another term then an outdated pejorative against people with disabilities than don't write at all. This isn't going into any length about the serious lack of substance between the two main characters--there are more to teens than having them obsessively ogle over one another.
I started reading Collision a year or two ago, and I could not make myself go pass the first few chapters. The POVs were just too repetitive and the whole she/he does not love was getting old. But the story line kept me thinking it will get better... so I re started reading this book and it did get better! I loved Trystan, he is such a great character!!! I am glad I started reading this again, now I need the 6th book to learn what happens next!
So sweet! Although the author often switches between past tense and present tense and uses the I -Form with Mari and He- Form with Trystan, which can be quite confusing sometimes. Apart from that, a really, really cute and romantic YA novel with quite a bit of drama, too. Worth the read!
A nice set of stories about mutual pining. You know it’s going to end badly because of the Ferro stories. Getting there, however, is a sweet teenage romance with enough drama to satisfy the most intense Ward fan.
This was a great young adult love story that takes place in High School. The last book in this story is Broken Promise and takes place 9 years after these 5 volumes enjoyed this read!!
I don't do romance often, but I am in a book club and one of the prompts was a colorful cover. And the characters hooked me. I read them all and Broken promises in a weekend. So good!
This book was a bit dark. It also had some funny parts too. I cried, sobbing at the end. This is definitely not my normal reading type, but I don't regret doing so.
Trystan is from the wrong side of town. Mari is from the right side of town! They are brought together through the theater department at their high school. Common bonds spark an attraction. Will these two with such different but similar backgrounds be able to defy family friends and the pull of outside influences to be together? Or will pursuing their dreams lead them in different directions?
This series tore me apart and put me back together again. So many emotions while reading it, I laughed, cried, bit my nails, felt the hope and heartache of Trystan and Mari. I first read this series before reading about him in the Ferro family novels. He makes an appearance in Jonathan Ferro's story, Stripped and then both he and Mari show up in The Arrangement series. After reading about him there I wanted to go back and re-read Trystan's series. Let me tell you, the second read was just as good if not better than the first. Even knowing the end of the story, I still felt all of the emotions as I did the first time. I am definitely looking forward to finding out how their story continues in Broken Promises which is set to come out this December. You will definitely swoon over the hot, sweet, sensitive damaged rocker that is Trystan Scott.
I loved these books! This was such a moving story of two kids from different backgrounds who have so much in common once they share their secrets. What starts out as a great friendship grows and changes over time. On the outside it seems each of them is living the life others envy. Trystan lives his life as one of the cool kids walking the halls as a senior who all the girls are in love with and Mari, who lives in her big house with her physician father and nurse mother, appear to have it all. What's not know each other and others is that their lives are similar in the way they are treated by those that love them. One with fists and the other by words, but the pain is real for both of them and they find healing in with each and and their friends once they confide in them. Heartwarming story about how love can help heal. Not just romantic love but love between friends.
I read all five of these volumes as they came out and I couldn't get enough of Trystan Scott. H. m. Ward takes on the journey of his life and what happens when secrets are revealed about past and present events and how it affects him and his life. Amazing story with great characters that are well developed. I cannot believe that it is amazing to have these five volumes together. Definite must read and own for my library. There are not many books that I buy hard back anymore as I am an avid Kindle user, but this is one that I will be buying for my collection. Thanks again for sharing the story of Trystan, I love hi a nod your writing is amazing. I can't wait for the next installment of his story. MUST READ!!!
I really enjoyed this series. I flew through them. I honestly could not put them down. I put everything in my life on hold.
Have you ready any of the books evolving the Ferro's? If so, then you will love Trystan. He is best friends with Johnathan and appears and many of the Ferro novels and short stories. Trystan and Mari have a unique relationship in the beginning. I don't want to go into a lot of detail and give anything away. This is about a high school love. It will lead into an adult love. "Broken Promises" is the next novel to come out and follow these.
I enjoyed following the relationship between Trystan and Mari. H.M.Ward grabs your attention and holds onto it the whole time. She really knows how to tug at your heart strings.
OMG. Whatever I paid for this was too much. Formulaic teenage angst and melodrama extravaganza. 2.5 hours into it; 8.5 hours to go. Kill me now...
UPDATE: Well, that is 11 hours of my life I'll never get back but I may hit up audible to give me my $4 back! Everyone was either angel or evil and the plot was so obvious is was painful. I did figure out that you could make about 8 different drinking games out of this:
Ugh. Worst book I've "read" in a very long time; I'm at a loss as to why it gets so many high ratings. Crazy.
This is deliciously tender and emotional. As a parent, it touches my heart. Abuse is a word a child should never know the meaning of.
No spoilers here. Just know that Trystan's past has shaped him. Never fall in love are the four words that will always stay with him. He is definitely living up to them.
It is sad to see a young love with so much potential suffer... I am eagerly awaiting Broken Promises to see what happens next.
This story is so sad. I feel so bad for both Trystan and Mari. Their both not in very good situations. This is one of my most favorite love stories ever because it happens all the time. Boy meets girl, girl meets boy they both fall for each other but don't know it. I can not wait for the 6th book in this series. The way it ends now. Your like wait what happened, but but but, ugh!!! Perfection yet again for H.M. Ward
Very cute. Loved the main characters and how young and innocent it was. Wasn't prepared for that with the authors usual writing even though I love all the farro books. I fell for This guy in the arrangement so was great to understand what he had went through. If read alone then I suppose you wouldn't need to read further on him as it's pretty final although there's the life after books which I are due soon. Swoon ;)
As usual HM Ward does not disappoint. Tristan Scott and Mari's romance is perfect. I'm intrigued and cannot wait for Broken promises. In the "Ferro" books Tristan is portrayed as a complete asshole. Don't be fooled. That is not the real Tristan. You have to read "The secret life of Tristan Scott" to meet the real Tristan. Enjoy!!
There are always secrets, rarely are things as they seem. Two totally different people from an outside perspective, are drawn together by the demons that plague them and make them more alike than even they can believe. I love, love, LOVE this story of these two finding love & finding their way! HM Ward has a fantastic way of reaching right into your heart through her writing!
WOW. H.W. Ward has done it again. This is an awesome story about Trystan and Mari. I couldn't put pick this book down and it didn't even have any sex scenes in it. Now you know. I love Trystan and Mari and I can't wait to read Broken Promises to see what happens with them. This story was well written and I couldn't get enough. This was a great read.
