I have been impatiently waiting for the sequel to Dark Paradise for months now, and I finally had the chance to read it the other day. You all have no idea how eager I was to be immersed into the world Sandro has created again, especially after the cliffhanger (that should be illegal) from the last book.

I have been impatiently waiting for the sequel to Dark Paradise for months now, and I finally had the chance to read it the other day. You all have no idea how eager I was to be immersed into the world Sandro has created again, especially after the cliffhanger (that should be illegal) from the last book.

This book picks up where the last one ended, thankfully. On a side note, I dislike sequels that do a time skip from the previous book ending. Back to the story: honestly this book is better than the first, in my opinion. The story is progressing nicely, and has that certain "creep" factor that Sandro seems to pull of effortlessly. The reader soon discovers that the problems from the last book are far from over in book two. The situations the characters found themselves in were very grave.

Speaking of characters, there are some new ones introduced. Not to mention, the characters we know from the previous novel have matured a bit (thankfully). I'm glad to see Mala act her age and not her shoe size. Her back and forth indecisiveness was grating on my nerves, and I'm also glad she gave Landry another chance. Oh Landry...(swoon). I love him so much. His protectiveness of Mala was sweet and it's good to see him taking responsibility for his less-than-stellar choices in the past. The overall togetherness of the two was amazing! I did indeed like their "special" scene (wink wink), as well as how they finally started working together like a team and admitted their feelings to each other. Enough with the mushy love stuff! Aunt Magnolia is so...wicked! I. Loved. It. She scares me, but I just love her character and her no nonsense attitude (she reminds me of my grandma).

I'm still waiting for Aunt Magnolia to deliver this line lol

So I'm really trying to not give too much of the plot away, but I didn't see that ending coming! And what is going on with Landry? I wonder what's going to happen next, and when Mala is going to turn into a bada** modern version of Marie Laveau? I'm still waiting and the anticipation for book 3 is killing me (in the most sweetest of ways).

I was eager to jump right back into the strange and dark world that the Sandro has created in this series. In fact, I was even a bit excited to see what would happen next between Mala, Landry, and even George Surprisingly, I wasn't ready for the end of the first book when it came and was thankful I didn't have long to wait for the release of the second book in this wonderfully executed trilogy about the gritty life of the bayou.

Wow I enjoyed this sequel just as much as the first one, Dark Paradise. I picked this one up from Net Galley directly after finishing the first one. I was glad they still had it available for review. This book is coming out on August 5th, and I got it in exchange for an honest review. It has a great mix of genre sure to please a large audience.

The whole ideal of this story is great. I thought that it was structured very well. The whole ideal of this story is great. I thought that it was structured very well. There were actually several different parts to the story that I really enjoyed quite a lot. I found it to be very engaging and easy to read and follow. I felt that the imagery was great as was the character development. I found that I could barely put the book down.

In this is installment things pick up right where they left off in the last book. And things really start to heat up for Mala and Landry. They have to learn to deal with so many things especially Aunt Magnolia who becomes a large part in the molding not only Mala, but Landry as well. Mala and Landry also have to learn to control powers that threatens to make them do things they can't control. This book also ends on a very open note for another book to make an appearance and I will be one of the first to get it.

The characters are fantastic in my opinion. They are very well developed and I find myself able to connect to most of them. There are both great protagonists and antagonists as well. A nice cast of characters for readers to enjoy. My favorites are Landry and Mala of course. I love that their relationship is not love at first site, and they both have their own demons in life to deal with. Readers are also even more exposed to Aunt Magnolia in this installment. I have to say though, I am still kind of on the fence about her character. I hope there is a third book so I can learn just a bit more about who she is.

I find that this book has an equal balance of being plot driven and character driven both. That makes for a very exciting read. I recommend this to a wide array of readers because I think you can find a bit of everything in not only this book but also it's predecessor. This book IMO is very deserving of the 5 stars I am giving it.

This one was a bit more fast paced than the first one. The push and pull between Mala and Landry was still just as irritating, but I really enjoyed the situations they were thrown into this time around.

As always, Ms. Jasmine was one of the best parts and Magnolia confused the hell out of me. We did get some answers and the reveal of the 4th man was a bit of a surprise. There was a pretty big twist I didn't see coming, but there's still a good amount of questions that need to be address ...more

Took me quite a while to write this review, mainly because I had quite a bit of conflicting emotions in regards to the story-line. Did I not like it due to the fact that I did not read Book 1, Dark Paradise? Or did I just really not like the plot, or was it just the main character? While this book was very well written, descriptions were dead on and the author did know much of comings and goings in the Vodoun world, the plot in itself could use a little more help. Not to mention the main charact Took me quite a while to write this review, mainly because I had quite a bit of conflicting emotions in regards to the story-line. Did I not like it due to the fact that I did not read Book 1, Dark Paradise? Or did I just really not like the plot, or was it just the main character? While this book was very well written, descriptions were dead on and the author did know much of comings and goings in the Vodoun world, the plot in itself could use a little more help. Not to mention the main character could use a definite reality check and grow up. "With great power, comes great responsibilities." That saying is true with more than just super heroes. When you wield magic as powerful as what Mala LaCroix holds within her very soul, one cannot just dabble into it, begin a drastic spell, then stop in the middle and say, "Oh, never mind", especially when dealing with other people's souls.

Mala LaCroix is the last living LaCroix, a family of extremely powerful Voodoo Queens. As such she is next in line to the thrown when her Great Aunt passes on to the other side. An aunt whom she has promised to be an apprentice to, and learn how to wield her dark art. But when the time comes she is less than enthused. But with enemies from both sides of the grave out to kill her, maybe going with dear old Auntie isn't such a bad idea.

Landry Prince has escaped the hands of death once again. Only this time, he hasn't come back alone. There is a demon living beneath his skin, devouring his soul with every breath he takes. And the only one he can rely on to rid himself of the demon in the Voodoo Queen herself, Magnolia. The question in that scenario, at what lengths will she go? And how can he keep Mayla safe when he can barely even trust himself?

When the action and magic happen, they do indeed make an impression. Too bad there isn't enough of the good to outweigh the bad. And the supposed 'bad' characters are the ones who keep to story flowing. Just as Magnolia tried to explain to her bullheaded niece, there is no such thing as black magic, either the wielder has a black soul or a light one. The decisions you make and the reasons behind them are all that truly matter. Anyone who practices voodoo, or has any roots in the craft, art or religion, may want to skip this read, because what Mayla does in the end will make you want to make a special little doll with her name on it. This book reads more like a Y/A than a N/A, if not for the sex. The characters are not really at the maturity of someone in the twenties, more like teenagers who still don't know which way is up. With some tweaks, this series does carry a lot of potential. As it stands now... This book cannot be read as a stand-alone, too much needed information is lost without having read the first book. ...more

Book two starts about a month after the events of the first book in the series, with Mala locked up in the psych ward and Landry in jail. Mala is getting use to seeing spirits and has a new skill of astral projecting, where against her will, every night she goes to check on Landry. Mala does not want to be tied to him, instead she would rather focus on her new relationship with her long time crush George. One night while “visiting” Landry, she sees him get attacked by his cellmate, and die. I am absolutely in love with this series. I can honestly say it is not like anything I have read before, and I have devoured these books. That is not to say that there are not things that drive me insane, but the plot is so engaging. There is ghosts, astral projection, magic, curses, voodoo and an evil queen, hate crimes, murder, mystery, love triangles, passion… There is so much going on that I am sure I missed listing something, but I was too busy living it right along with the characters. Just an FYI, this is not a standalone book, it needs to be read in order otherwise the plot might not make sense since this book starts right in without too much rehashing of the story (which I am a fan of).
I love that the book is told from both character’s points of view, alternating between chapters. Sometimes there are parts left out that the reader desperately wants to know, but we can only know as much as the narrator knows. All the details are eventually revealed since it switches back in forth. I love the fact we get insight into both characters heads, but at times I am confused if I missed a details when the chapters switch.
Nothing is ever easy for Mala. Seriously, she has been possessed by a vengeful spirit, her mother was murdered, and now she sees all ghosts and people believe she just might be crazy. I love that when she and Landry are together, they just click. And after everything they have gone through, she really should just throw herself into his arms and never leave. I absolutely hate the back and forth thing with George! George has been caught repeatedly lying to her, doesn’t want people to know they have a “thing”, and does not really believe her talents. She just needs to get over him, regardless of their past. Mala did find out a ton of shocking things in this book, be it about her aunt and her intentions as well as whom her father was. I think her aunt is shady and I wanted Mala to make Sophia pay for her attack, but I guys I will have to wait and see.
Poor freaking Landry. This guy has the worst luck ever, and I personally don’t believe he deserves it. He may have made a few bad decisions and had angst filled moments, but he has never really hurt anyone, yet he gets screwed over left and right. He really could use a hug, but he asks for nothing. I really like him and root for him and Mala to get their BS figured out so they can just be happy for once. And if Mala decides she doesn’t want him, I would be glad to take him, one eye and all (maybe after the demon leaves, though). The fact he can still desperately want Mala after everything, mainly the loss of the eye, and not hold a grudge is almost saintly. The declaration he made to Mala at the hospital at the end was so sweet and honest. In case it was not clear, I am a huge Landry fan. His past history of stalking Mala was a fun discovery, most amazing that she had no clue he had been into her for so long.
I really enjoyed all the twists and turns this story took me on, and I can’t wait to read the last book in the series. There are so many plot lines left open that I really need answered. I recommend this series to anyone who likes a little mystery and romance with their supernatural.

Dark Sacrifice is the second book of a trilogy and picks up right where Dark Paradise ends. Mala has inherited powers from her mother and is trying to come to grips with her new ability to see ghosts (and may have some voodoo abilities, too). When she was at death’s door (in Dark Paradise), she made a deal with her Aunt Magnolia to save her own life and agreed to become her apprentice, but it is becoming clear that Magnolia is more than she seems, and it is very dark indeed. And, just because Jasmine, Mala’s mother, is deceased, it does not mean she is gone – her ghost seems to be permanently bound to Mala. As if there is not enough going on for Mala to worry about, she finds out the truth of her parentage, and it throws Mala and her friend/quasi love interest, George, for a loop. Try as she might to hate Landry and hold him responsible for her inability to save her mother’s life, she still finds herself drawn to him, thinking about him, and her soul visits him nightly.

Landry is in jail, accused of a murder he did not commit, and finds himself the victim of an attack. He comes back from his near death experience even more attune to the supernatural and now must fight his own battle against a demon for his very soul. When he finds himself freed from jail, he is determined to protect Mala from his father and the mystery fourth man involved in Jasmine’s murder. He goes to stay with Mala to be in closer proximity to her, but he continues to fight his feelings for her, thinking himself unworthy of her love.

The fourth man is indeed out to clean up all the loose ends related to Jasmine’s murder and is systematically killing all of those involved. Landry’s father, realizing his loyalties have been misplaced, is hiding out from the fourth man but also trying his best to protect Landry and Mala.

Aunt Magnolia soon comes to collect Mala’s debt, and seeing Landry’s new abilities, takes both Mala and Landry to New Orleans to begin training. They find themselves deep in dark magic, a place full of zombies, resurrection, and human sacrifice, where nothing is quite as it seems.

The story is fast paced but has a transitional feel to it. Some questions from the first installment are answered, some assumptions are proven wrong, and more questions are proposed. I thought the creepy ambiance from the first book was somewhat missing here, even with the voodoo element. I really expected this book to focus on Mala’s apprenticeship, but it was sparsely addressed. I can hope that it will be tackled in the third book. Landry and Mala still irritate me, though I found them a bit more mature here and hope they have gotten over their angst for each other and move forward with their relationship. I have not decided if they are good for each other or not. The identity of the fourth man came as a surprise, as did Landry’s father’s about face. As before, this has a somewhat cliffhanger ending.

This Gothic-esque paranormal thriller/romance is entertaining and the writing is sound. I recommend it to lovers of paranormal romance and those who enjoy the Louisiana atmosphere and ghosts/voodoo.

Mala is so strong, and her abilities grow stronger too. I like Mala and her determination when it comes to not giving up on learning more about the power to see ghosts. Her and Landry are exactly what the other needs. They are both stubborn, now have more in common than ever before. But, Landry has had a rough time, his sister is murdered, he’s been accused of a crime he didn’t commit, been attacked and now has this strange new ability. He is still a good guy though, he stays loyal to her and helps in anyway he can. Mala’s Aunt Magnolia made a couple of appearances in Dark Paradise, she was a grumpy ole woman that I could figure out and she kinda gave me the creeps and she still does, and most of the time I couldn’t figure out what her agenda really was. The entire cast of characters are freakin awesome, and of course I have to root for Mala and Landry.

The story was just as engrossing as in the first book, and the plot itself picks up right where the first left off. We get both Mala and Landry’s POV, and this is way I like it, I like to to be able to see the story from both sides. More details are there and with the mystery, all the clues all there, it was a matter of piecing them all together. More obstacle and new people that were introduced didn’t make it any easier for them. Now the chemistry between them is so much more intense than before, and I love the fact that there is this slow building relationship between them. I am a sucker for the Louisiana bayou type settings and this one definitely had the eeriness to it, and with all the voodoo and ghosts popping up everywhere, kept me turning the pages. There were some things uncovered, most of which I didn’t see coming. At least the ending was a cliffhanger leaving me yelling at the book. I was pretty satisfied with the way it closed but there are some questions that still need to be answered, and I can’t wait to read the next book which will be out in September.

Fans of the new adult genre looking for something new and refreshing, this is a series for you. Plenty of suspense, mystery, great characters and steamy tension filled romance and some serious voodoo magic going on. And I can’t get enough of it…

Wow, Wow, Wow, what a brilliant sequel!

I received an advanced copy of Dark Sacrifice from the publishers for an honest review; well I can honestly say I love Sandro’s imagination and the direction this story takes, I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us in Dark Redemption.

The book is the second in the Dark Paradise series, it continues from the first exploring the problematic relationship between Mala LaCroix and Landry Prince. Mala still struggling to cope with her new-found power, L Wow, Wow, Wow, what a brilliant sequel!

The book is the second in the Dark Paradise series, it continues from the first exploring the problematic relationship between Mala LaCroix and Landry Prince. Mala still struggling to cope with her new-found power, Landry being possessed by a demon and Mala’s crazy possibly evil Great Aunt are just a few of their obstacles. I really do not want to give too much away because it is a great book with a lot of twists and turns that need to be discovered by the reader.

The story had a faster pace than the previous book; it was easier to get into, although that may have been because I was already invested in the characters from reading Dark Paradise. Dark Sacrifice kept me gripped; once I started, I had a hard time putting it down; my poor family were yet again ignored!

Sandro leaves no stone unturned and really pushes the limits on this one; I love how she explores the concepts of right, wrong, black, white and grey, Dark Sacrifice was just the right amount of dark. I did shed some tears at the unexpected twists the story took; Sandro has no qualms of killing people off!

My favorite character is Landry; I love Landry and really hope he gets rid of his demon; I am not sure if Sandro is trying to be poetic here about Landry’s demon or not. I think poor Landry has suffered enough, I hope he gets cut some slack in the next book.

My least favorite character is still George; what a selfish; arrogant ass, I had hoped he would redeem himself but no every time he looks like he’s coming good he does or says something stupid. I did love the little plot twist about George and Mala though, unexpected.

I really did enjoy this book, I started it hoping for questions from the previous book to be answered; some were, some were not and many, many more left me wondering at the end of Dark Sacrifice. Sandro left me on a high, chomping at the bit, eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series Dark Redemption.

I would recommend both books be read together, I don't think they stand alone very well as they are very much a sequel that is heavily intertwined with each other.
I would recommend Dark Paradise and Dark Sacrifice to readers who like Supernatural, Urban Fantasy romance novels. I would say young adults up as it is quite dark and a teeny bit raunchy. I would give this book an 9/10 Absolutely worth a read.

I read my first Angie Sandro novel a while back, it was the first in the series and this is the second. After I read the first, I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It had me completely entranced and I was hoping that this one would be the same. I mean, how often do you find yourself truly captivated by a book? For me, it isn't very often.

Right off the bat, with Dark Sacrifice, I was thrilled. This novel starts off with a kick ass

I read my first Angie Sandro novel a while back, it was the first in the series and this is the second. After I read the first, I just couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It had me completely entranced and I was hoping that this one would be the same. I mean, how often do you find yourself truly captivated by a book? For me, it isn't very often.

Right off the bat, with Dark Sacrifice, I was thrilled. This novel starts off with a kick ass first paragraph and I just knew that I wouldn't be disappointed with this book! It really picks up right where Dark Paradise leaves you. It was almost as if I hadn't ever finished reading the first installment, that's how perfectly Dark Paradise picks back up. Now, with some series, you're able to jump around with the order but this one I think that you really need to start with the first one. So if everything you read about this sounds good, definitely go pick up the first one because you don't want to miss any of that magic. No pun intended.

I think I'm pretty honest with my reviews, I don't usually hold anything back and because of this, I have something to say. I wasn't ten percent into this book and I wanted to chunk my Kindle out the window. Dude. I was pissed. This story takes a turn that really just ticked me off! I can't even describe how upset I was. Sooo angry. I actually put the book down for an entire day ... like I was punishing it or something, I guess. But then I had to pick it back up. I just had to know what happened after Angie Sandro totally wrecked my whole reading world. All of that being said, I totally respect Angie Sandro for pulling a Veronica Roth/Allegiant kind of author created torture. And spoiler alert, I wasn't nearly as pissed at the end of the book.

Yes, this book is worth reading. Yes, it's as good as the first. Well, almost. I was about 3/4 of the way through and I just started getting this weird ... vibe ... from the writing. It was almost as if it lost its fire or something. And this could totally be just me but it just felt different. I mean, it's obviously from the same author but it just felt different. I didn't get that umph the story had previously. It lost its steam. Anyhow, it's still a great book. The story line is fast paced and consistently entertaining. The characters are just as amazing as they were when you met them in Dark Paradise.

When you start reading this one, make sure you buckle up because you're in for a crazy, wild ride! ...more

I was really excited to read this book because I just loved how the premise and story sounded and I really wanted to see what it was all about. Plus, i'm not going to lie, I am in love with the covers of these series so that was another deciding factor for me. If it looks pretty, i'm going to want to give it a try.

First let me start off by saying that I really like Sandro's writing style because it is so descriptive that you are pulled into the story that much quicker. The dual perspective and fast paced style are some of the things I like about this book because it allows you to understand her characters more as well as creating a gripping and captivating atmosphere, even though for me there wasn't really a lot going on. So I was genuinely sucked into the story, but in some cases not understanding why because I there were times when I got lost as to what was going on. Having said this there was a really creepy atmosphere throughout the book because it felt as though the characters were being watched and followed, so you were constantly wondering what the fudge was going on, which I really like because it showed that the characters were in danger and something big could happen at any minute.
Unfortunately I wasn't really thrilled with the relationship of Laundry and Mala, the constant does he, doesnt he feel was just annoying and irratating to me because I just wanted them to make up their minds and to get on with it already.

All in all I thought that Dark Sacrifice was a fast paced sequel that reveals some answers that were needed and keeps you gripped with some pretty interesting twists. However for me personally, it didn't thrill me as much as I hoped. Book 2 of Angie Sandro’s Dark Paradise series picks up right where we left off with Dark Paradise. Mala is still in the Looney bin and Landry is still in prison. This one is just as good if not better than the first. Mala and Landry must face the aftermath of the atrocities his family brought on to Mala’s. Not to mention all the flirting and teasing between the two pays off with a sweet, sexy and romantic scene.

Mala has learned some control over her abilities, not a lot just enough to ignore a Book 2 of Angie Sandro’s Dark Paradise series picks up right where we left off with Dark Paradise. Mala is still in the Looney bin and Landry is still in prison. This one is just as good if not better than the first. Her nightly out of body experiences always take her to check up on Landry in prison, the last one she witness Landry’s cell mate trying to murder him. Mala wakes up screaming thinking Landry has died. The day before she is scheduled to leave her former boss comes to her and admits a big secret *no spoilers* that totally throws her for a loop that shines George, her first crush, in a whole new light. Landry just barely survived the attack, he did die and he came back but he didn’t come back alone. When Mala is released she visits him in the hospital and they both find out he now shares Mala’s special ability of seeing the dead.

With nowhere else to go and the whole town blaming Landry for the sins of his parents Mala invites him to live with her. It’s just the beginning when they are attacked by ghosts because of revenge and the mystery of where Landry’s father is hiding and the other two people who helped murder Mala’s mother. On top of all that Auntie Magnolia is back and she wants to be repaid for her crossroads bargain. Not to mention the relationship between Mala and Landry has the typical ups and downs.

Again the story ends with a mini cliffhanger like the first it ends but it leaves a little bit hanging to tantalize you into reading the next one Dark Redemption out in September. I loved this book I read through this in one day I couldn’t put it down. It is recommended that you read Dark Paradise first only because all the character development happened in that book and the actions in it are continued in this book.

We start off with Mala in the fruity bin and Landry in the county jail. Mala and Georgie are a sort of couple and every night Mala visits Landry a la astral projection. Ever since her mother was murdered she has gained more power and abilities. And as soon as she gets sprung from the fruity bin she plans on using Landry to find the men who did it and get her revenge. One night while visiting Landry she witnesses his bunk mate shank him and watches him die. She sees a black mass appear and sucks up Landry’s soul.

While Landry is on the side he feels something crawl inside him and see his sister. She helps him return to the land of the living, but he has brought back a hitchhiking demon. Once him and Mala are out and about together again he discovers he is now capable of seeing spirits too. With his Mother insane, his father on the run, and no one else willing to take him in he goes to live with Mala vowing to protect her. Some one is out there trying to get rid of anybody that was around and witness to Mala’s mother’s death.

The sexual tension between Mala and Landry is as abundant and electric in the first book if not more so. Four words. Chocolate syrup. Candle. Condom. Make that five, WOO!!! I’m tellin’ ya. Get out there and get these books! They are a good time and don’t disappoint. Now I just have to wait until September for Dark Redemption. This is going to be one hell of a long ass month of anticipation. *sigh*

I really enjoyed this book. It is the second novel in the new adult series. The first of which is Dark Paradise. These books take you in a different direction than the majority of new adult romance’s out there. It has a paranormal edge that will keep you hanging on page after page. I didn’t go into these books knowing it was going to have a darker paranormal feel. So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed it.

Five HUGE stars again! This is the second novel in Angie Sandro's Dark Paradise series, and I loved it as much as the first one.
There are so many shocks, and revelations in this story that you don't feel like it's a second novel. It's not just filler here folks. There is real meat to this story. I am still in love with Mala and Landry! They definitely have some ups and downs in this one, but I'm hopeful till the end.

I have REALLY enjoyed the first 2 books in Angie Sandro's series. It has a "True Blood" feel to me, but with ghosts and witch doctors instead of vampires.

Dark Sacrifice picks up several days after the events of Dark Paradise. Mala's in a mental institution and Landry's in jail and both have been irrevocably changed since first meeting all those weeks ago. Mala can't stay away from Landry, even though her trust in him has been shattered. Landry is on a mission to protect Mala at all costs.

This book almost, but not quite, falls victim to middle book syndrome. It does give us a solution to a murder mystery, in this case the real killers of Mala's mom, but it's more incidental than vital to the story. I was hoping that we'd get a significant amount of Mala learning about her powers from her Aunt Magnolia, but that didn't exactly happen, either.
