The rating is for the quality of the writing, even though the subject matter was not what I usually read. I know Bryant wrote horror, but for that to appeal to me would require some supernatural element, ghosts, vampires, etc. These stories do have horrific elements (serial killers) but that's not the same thing. As with the last Bryant story collection I read, I won't be reviewing this for my blog either.

Edward Winslow Bryant, Jr. was born August 27, 1945 in White Plains NY and was raised on a cattle ranch in Wyoming. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he earned a Master’s in English in 1968 and ’69. He went to the Clarion Writers’ Workshop in 1968.
