✦ KUMAI Haruto was “traumatized” by his first-year girlfriend, who complained that he was “too pure”. He hasn’t had a girlfriend and hasn’t looked for love since then … until, in his third year and the final fleeting moments of his spring, his friend KURUSU mentions he now has a girlfriend. Kurusu then heavily implies that Haruto may have a chance with another girl, HAYASHI Midori.
✦ Haruto gathers the remnants of his courage and messages Midori, who surprisingly responds and agrees to start going out with him! They agree to meet the next day, but who should show up but SASAHARA Aoi, the school heartthrob.
✦ Haruto, dumbstruck, is unable to correct what he thinks is Aoi’s misconception of their conversation, and that’s how he ends up with a boyfriend in the final moments of his spring.
✦ Haruto and Aoi get to know each other, and as they do, Haruto feels more and more guilty not letting Aoi know the truth of his messaging Aoi. But he wants to clear the air and then tell Aoi he actually really likes Aoi, so my brave bb Haruto scrapes together his courage and tells Aoi the truth.
✦ But of course you know that’s not the only thing going on.
Aoi knew, from the beginning, that Haruto had intended to message Midori. Aoi and Midori utilize the exact same kanji for their name (碧), and he knew Haruto, having been in the same class in their first year.
As Aoi was in a Mood at that time (having been messaged by an ex-boyfriend he despised), he decides to string Haruto along … until he realizes how sweet Haruto is and he also falls in love, but since he is not very good at communicating, he almost fucks it all up when he tells Haruto the truth (that he deliberately led Haruto on).
✦ In the end, Haruto has to be the braver of the two of them, again, and asks Aoi to meet with him so they can finally talk after the disastrous reveal. Aoi ONCE AGAIN almost fucks this up by not reading Haruto’s message and almost missing their meeting (he was late for hours and he wouldn’t have shown up if his younger bro hadn’t told him Haruto had been waiting for him).
✦ But all’s well that ends well and that’s all I want for Haruto. As long as Aoi makes Haruto happy, we’re good.

✦ Haruto tells his friends about himself and Aoi!! I’m all about that. I’m also all about his friends being shook but then going back to normal after that (Kurusu does guess although Takimoto is clueless as always).
✦ Lel I love Aoi’s little brother.
thoughts
✦ First of all, despite Aoi having a fairly mean streak, he is a pretty understanding person. His response to Haruto’s hesitations about getting physical (especially after they get together For Reals) was really admirable (and mature). He let Haruto set the pace, and even told Haruto to slow down when Haruto was pushing himself, feeling pressured to meet what he perceived as Aoi’s desires. That’s very nice.
✦ I also am in favor of this trend where couples in BL are shown interacting positively with people outside of their relationship—their families and friends. Of course I do also tend to pick those kinds of manga, but I’m glad I do have a choice. A decade ago and I would still have been reading YAMANE Ayano et al where it felt like the world consisted of no one but the main couple and some people who wanted to break them up.
✦ One of my favorite scenes is Aoi going out to buy milk or whatever and coming back to his fake boyfriend Haruto tutoring his younger brother Subaru.
I like to imagine that years down the line Subaru will be Haruto’s soft fave and Aoi will still be jelly of his younger brother. Subaru proudly telling Haruto “I am serious, unlike my big brother,” with a smug look on his face is the best.
✦ The only other book of SUEHIRO Machi’s I’ve read is キレイなお兄さんは好きですか?. I do have to say if it weren’t for the cute concept and the cover art, I may not have bought ちぐはぐ based on the strength of キレイなお兄さん, although it wasn’t bad.
✦ Toranoana comes in with value again as I get a couple additional booklets. I am never going back to Amazon again lel

I'm punching the air. This was so fucking cute. I always get worried when I reread things I felt strongly about because I find that my feelings tend to lessen a lot of the time, but that didn't happen with this one. I was reading this while it was updating and now that the full volume came out I started it back over from the beginning and I basically felt the same exact way. It's so stinking cute!! I cannot properly explain my love for this.
This is about a shy boy, Kumai. His first relationship didn't work out so well since he was too shy and pure to make any moves. Now he's a third year and everyone around him is getting into relationships, he decides to give it another shot. So he takes the jump and messages a girl he's been friendly with recently. The conversation goes well and they set up a lunch date for the following day. But the girl doesn't show up, instead Sasahara, the most popular guy in school does. Kumai had gotten the names mixed up and had accidentally asked Sasahara out. Kumai is at a loss for words and doesn't get a chance to explain the misunderstanding so the two end up spending time together. The closer they get the more worried Kumai is about hurting Sasahara's feelings, but Kumai is developing a crush on Sasahara so now he's worried about ruining their relationship.
This was so cute and wholesome I could die. I'm really happy that the misunderstanding didn't turn into a huge blow up and I think the way that it worked out was the best way they could've done it. I absolutely adore Machi Suehiro's style. The cute blushy faces, the clothes, the hair. It's so appealing to look at. I loved that the relationship focuses so much on the two getting to know each other. I loved that although both of them had bad relationships in the past, the exes never come into the story and those bad relationships aren't too focused on. I mean they are in the way that it shows how they've grown and how the two of them are basically the opposite of each other's ex, but that the exes don't come in to stir shit up or like apologize or whatever. This story was just so refreshing. It was all about building their relationship. They both are very considerate of each other and their feelings and idk!! It's just so sweet. I love fluff so much. My heart was getting that twinge and I was starting to tear up over how happy I was for them. I really loved this.

That’s the one. Yes! / omg. He’s so cute, I’m excited! / don’t kill my boy! He’s pure! / a guy that cooks and is sweet? He aims for my heart / I can’t anymore. He needs to be honest RIGHT NOW! / OMG WHAT / but why? Why didn’t they talk and clear the misunderstanding? I’m hurt and this needs to be fixed asap but honestly they do need their time apart / he left him?! Waiting at the stairs?! How?! Forget it! There’s still time / Be brave my boy, I’m rooting for you. / there it is people. Communication is key! / spare my boy’s heart hahaha don’t go too fast / I love that they are thoughtful of each other / I’m happy, I feel refreshed, this is a good feeling
