There is an incredibly compelling jump-start to this book. It was hard to put down and I had to fall asleep with the lights on! Several twists and turns kept me guessing throughout the plot. Dani and Adam were great main characters and their friendship-romance developed in a believable way. The villains were realistically flawed, but still unnerving. This was a perfect suspense novel for me and I will definitely be reading more by Lynette Eason!

I'd heard this one was slower than the first book in the series and it really is a lot slower...don't get me wrong, still quite a bit going on...but the book feels a lot slower pace-wise.

Characters:
Dani was such a strong woman and I admired the determination and fortitude she had. I loved Simon! He was so sweet and a genius! He just wanted to protect his mom. <3
I loved seeing more of Adam, but I wanted to delve into his feelings around his backstory and everything more, and with everything centered on Dani, I didn't feel like his story was expounded to its full potential.
Stuart was a creep.
And some other characters were down right NUTS! Kurt...like wow! How evil do you have to be and that plot twist and just...wowzeers...

Themes:
Trusting God to hold us even in the worst situations.

Language:
N/A

Romance:
Someone attraction between characters, but no kisses until the end and then they are barely detailed.

Violence/Gore:
Mentions of deaths, characters being killed, the feeling of blood, a character having a heart attack, mentions of cancer, abuse - both verbal and physical.
*SPOILER* Simon losses his hearing due to his dad hitting him and knocking him into a wall *END SPOILER*

Overall:
This was a good book, slower-paced, intense plot twist, and an ending that felt pretty rushed...but still a great suspense book.

Another enjoyable read by Eason! Although that villain was incredibly creepy . . .

Recommended for ages 16+ for mature themes, such as domestic violence, romance, and the aforementioned creepy bad guy.

What would you do if someone tried to hurt your son?

That’s what Dani Harding has to figure out in Lynette Eason’s novel, Nowhere to Turn. Dani’s lived in fear the last twelve years, but her future will make that terror feel like happiness. When her deaf son’s life comes into danger, she seeks help in a unique program called Operation Refuge. Going into hiding under the care of one of the Operation’s agents, Dani hopes the attempts on her son’s and her life will stop. But the journey to freedom has only begun. Will she ever be rid of those who’ve held her captive for over a decade? Will she learn to trust God with the safety of her most precious treasure—her son?

Another successful suspense novel from Lynette Eason, Nowhere to Turn kept me guessing until the very end. It’s the second installment of the Hidden Identity series, but it can stand on its own as well. The twists and turns came at great moments, right when I thought I knew what was coming. Boy, was I wrong! I like the way Ms. Eason crafts her stories, weaving everything together in a way that always makes me keep flipping the pages late into the night. If you like sleep over reading, this isn’t the book for you. But if you enjoy a great suspense story … well, grab a copy and welcome to the fan club!

Listening to this again is kinda like watching a movie you've seen before... you're familiar with the story, you know how it goes, but you still enjoy it. :)
It's nice to have some books like this available when there's no new-to-me books available to listen to. :)

Nowhere to Turn is a tension-filled novel with a bit of a mystery to it.

Lynette Eason weaves a web in this novel that has you wondering who exactly is after Dani Harding, and why? Between her brother-in-law Stuart and a seemingly deadlier foe, Dani only wants to be able to have a normal life with her son, Simon, after her abusive husband is dead.

Dani is a complex character. There is a lot number of things from her past that have brought her to the point of where this novel takes place. Adam, the hero of the story, is similar in that regard. Together, a few sparks fly between them, but nothing can come of it until Dani and Simon are safe.

Nowhere to Turn was definitely a page turner. While it is the second novel in the Hidden Identity series, it can be read as a standalone novel. I haven’t read the first book, but I had the impression that some of the things of the first novel were revealed in this one. So if you don’t want any spoilers, you should probably read the first novel first, even the stories are quite different.

There is danger and fear on every page. It doesn't help that the bad guys are in the FBI. Dani and her son Simon are on the run for their lives and Adam is determined to save them. It was nearly impossible to put this book down. My heart was pounding when I finally came up for air.

When the good guys are the bad guys and you question which official to trust, where do you turn and how can you be sure anything is safe?

This is Danielle Harding's life as all she wants to do is escape from her husband, then his stalking brother, and protect her son. Any where she turns seems to bring an element of danger.

What a suspenseful book. Another Lynette Eason page turner.

Lynette Eason has made her way on my Top 5 Favourite Suspense writers. I always find myself flying through her books and wanting to read just one more chapter.

The plot:
It started with a very fast pace, slowed a bit around 50-70% and then picked up the pace again. Somethings I did guess very quickly, like how they kept finding them, but Lynette kept me guessing on most of the important twists and the ending I never saw coming. Only at the end did I figure out Butterfly and I found myself holding my breath to see if the FBI agent they trusted really were trustworthy.

The romance:
One of the main things I love about Lynette Eason is that the romance is always subtle - you can see the chemistry between the characters, but it is not insta-love. There is also no focus on how attracted the character is to the other one's body (muscles etc). The speed of the relationship also follows the character - Dani had to deal with a lot of baggage from her life with Kurt, and the relationship between Dani and Adam developed in line with the character background.

The Characters
I adored Simon, he frustrated me with a choice he made, but he felt so broken and scared and mistrusted all men. I loved how he wanted to protect his mother as man of the house, even though it was not his place. Dani was a strong character, stronger than what I would have thoughtafter her abuse, but she decided she had enough and stepped up, which still felt reasonable. Adam I enjoyed in No One to Trust (Hidden Identity, #1) by Lynette Eason , and was glad to visit him again. Kurt and Stuart were just mentally twisted - I remember thinking if real people like them exist, but sadly they do.

This is book 2 of the series. It can be read as a stand alone, however, after reading Book 1 I felt more compassion for Adam and also had a background of the founders of Operation Refuge, David and Summer.

Recommended to readers who love suspense and enjoy Terri Blackstock and Irene Hannon.

"Nowhere to Turn" offers the same fast-paced, addictive reading as the first book in the series ("No One to Trust"), and I am positive that Lynette Eason fans are going to love it! Dani is a completely likable character who won my heart - and my empathy - from within the first couple of pages. Not only that, but after just a few sentences into the book, I found myself gripping the pages and racing through the story to see how things would resolve. And then, just when you thought Dani and her son were safe - a new twist would be thrown into the story! I thought that all of the characters in this book were intriguing and well-developed. Readers who enjoyed the first book in the series will also appreciate being reacquainted with the stars of that book as well, Summer and David. Also, the fact that Dani's son, Simon, was deaf added a whole new level of mystery and interest to the plot as well, and I loved that the author shows that deaf people can be every bit as intelligent as someone who isn't deaf. The chemistry between Dani and Adam makes for some well-done and believe moments of romance, with nothing that is over the top or that would turn away male readers of the book. All in all, Eason knows how to create action-packed, absorbing scenes, and she has done a fabulous job at keeping the pace at top speed from start to finish.

Readers who enjoy an action-packed blend of romantic suspense will be flocking to this story. And if you haven't read the first book in the series - no worries! You can easily dive into book two without having read the preceding book (but, if you haven't read the first, what on earth are you waiting for?) I give "Nowhere to Turn" a solid rating and 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Review on my blog (to be posted 9/10): http://christianbookshelfreviews.blog...

Nowhere To Turn was a good romantic suspense read. It starts off crazy-good and the pages just flew by! However, I did get a little tired of the story when, for the majority of the book, it was all about running away, finding new "safe" houses, etc. and that the main characters didn't think of certain things sooner.

Still, I did like the story as a whole and loved the first half. The characters were interesting and it was nice that Summer and David (from book one) were in this story, too.

Overall, not my favorite Lynette Eason book, but it was still good. If you enjoy these types of books and/or previous Lynette Eason novels, you'll probably like Nowhere To Turn, too.

Nowhere to Turn by Lynette Eason is a thrill ride. It had me holding my breath and my stomach in knots, and this was within the first few chapters. Danielle is trying to escape an abusive relationship to her FBI husband with her 11 year old son. Her abusive husband happens to die the same day she is trying to escape. So you would think, end of story and a happy ending. Not in this case; for Danielle things go from bad to worse. Her brother in law is infatuated with her, and someone is trying to kill her. She reaches out to Operation Refuge and Adam is assigned to her case. He is a retired Marshall with a past and family issues. Both were very likeable characters.
I should mention that Nowhere to Turn is the second story in the series. I have not read the first book and did not feel like I missed anything. I will go back and read it. I am not sure how I missed a new release by this amazing author.
I was actually disappointed that I had figured out one of the plot lines; never guessing that it was just the tip of the ice berg. When you read a book by Lynette expect to be up all night finishing it. I highly recommend this book if you like edge of your seat suspense with a sprinkling of romance and faith.

About the Book:

When Dani's abusive FBI husband dies Dani thinks that her and her son Simon are now free to live a normal life. When Dani and Simon's lives are once again threatened Dani turns to Adam Buchanan who works for Operation Refuge a protection agency. Adam is getting desperate in his protection of Dani and Simon, every time they move to a safe house the enemy seems to find them. How are they being found out and what will happen to Dani and Simon if they are captured?

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this second book in the Hidden Identity series. There were many twists and turns and lots of action and peril to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. I liked Dani's relationship with her son Simon. Simon is deaf and the center of his mom's life. When Adam comes into their lives it is nice to see him working to make a relationship with Simon as well as Dani and slowly winning their confidence and turning their fear of abuse into confidence and love. A lot of suspense and a little bit of romance makes this an entertaining read.

To start off, this is a 4.5. That’s not to say I didn’t like it, but book one was just so…good. But for this book, I enjoyed it, I did. Dani and Simon had a good parental relationship that grew and changed throughout the story. Dani and Adam, on the other hand, had a sweet relationship that progressed nicely. It felt quick at times, but I think it definitely was paced well. Also, the faith content in this series is really well done. It’s some of the best that I’ve seen in romantic suspense. Not to say that others haven’t done it well, this one just feels special

Really enjoyed it, but a pet peeve of mine is when the main character switches in each book of a series🥲 big bonus points for fantastic MCs and mild romance, tho

Also, the big plot twist at the end had me 😮😮😮 but it was rather abrupt

As she and her son run for their lives, they have nowhere to turn, until she hires Adam Buchanan of Operation Refuge and goes into hiding. Unfortunately, she won't be able to hide for long . . .

I like all three of the main characters and thought they were very well developed in the book. Dani has made the mistake of staying in an abusive relationship for 12 years and finally makes the decision to leave. Then, after thinking she's safe when her husband is killed, she ends up on the run again after someone tries to kill her. For the most part she manages to stay strong for her deaf son. She also has to learn to let herself trust a man again. Adam is still overcoming the mistakes from his past and has to make difficult personal decisions to try to help keep Dani and her son safe. And Simon, Dani's son, is deaf and has lived with the abuse of his father for years. He also has to learn to trust again.

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat! Adam and his team are trying their best to keep Dani and her son safe but they are being tracked somehow. I just cringed every time they were found until they figured out how they were being discovered. The fact that the main villains were badge carrying FBI agents made it harder for them to hide. There is plenty of action and lots of suspense to keep your attention! There were also some twists to the story that I definitely didn't see coming. All in all, a very good book!

Deb's Dozen: Dirty cops, deaf son, abusive spouse. Run, Dani, run! Nowhere to Turn

Dani Harding has had enough—she's taking her deaf son, Simon, and running away. Kurt has abused her for the last time. But the day she decides to run, Kurt is killed in a shooting. Dani thinks she and Simon are finally safe—but are they? Seemingly Kurt has taken and hidden something that the bad guys really want. And now Dani is running again. Not only from them, but from her brother-in-law, Stuart, who is all but stalking her. He sees getting Dani as finally winning the competition against his dead brother.

Dani runs to Operation Refuge and hires Adam Buchanan to help her as she and Simon run for their lives. Adam is entranced by Dani and her story and endeavors to protect her and Simon. But somehow, the bad guys keep finding them ….

Nowhere to Turn is one of Lynette Eason's best. I kept thinking that I had the plot all figured out, but she kept throwing me curves. I stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish the book—and what a denouement! You will want to get this one as well as the first book in the Hidden Identity series, No One to Trust, so that you'll be all caught up before her next book in the series, No Place to Hide releases this summer.

You'll like Dani and her son, Simon, who is a math genius. You'll also like Adam and Operation Refuge. Eason has the ability to create totally believable characters who grab at your heartstrings at the same time you're impressed with their courage.

Nowhere to Turn is an exciting, tension-filled ride! It is book two in the Hidden Identity series, but is definitely readable as a stand alone novel. If you have read book one in the series, you will remember Adam Buchanan. He is now the hero of Nowhere to Turn and is tasked with the job of keeping Danielle Harding and her son safe from those who are trying to kill them.

Adam, Dani, and her son, Simon are very well-written and realistic characters. All three of them are good, solid, dependable people. But they are also human and have made mistakes and misjudged situations. Adam faces strained relations with his mother and father because of events that happened in the past. Dani, and her son Simon, faced twelve years of abuse because she made a bad decision in whom she married. Simon makes a decision in the book that really complicates things for him and his mom. This makes these three characters seem very real, since we all make bad decisions sometimes.

If you enjoy twisted and evil bad guys…Lynette Eason knows how to write them! I enjoy that she puts some pretty messed up evildoers in her books and they get their comeuppance in the end, but without a lot of gore. She is able to make the scene scary and uncomfortable, but keep it clean. I appreciate that!

I definitely recommend Nowhere to Turn to fans of romantic suspense.

Yet another excellent romantic suspense from Ms. Eason!

I loved both Dani and Adam but I think my favorite character was Simon, Dani's twelve year old son. He was just so sweet and vulnerable that there were times my heart ached for him so much that I just wanted to hug him! And I loved how protective he was of his Mom! Another thing I loved was that the main characters of the previous book played a fairly large role in this book!

I don't think this is my favorite of Lynette Eason's books but with that being said the suspense was still really good, I was hooked from the first page and was completely absorbed until the last word of the breathless, adrenaline pumping ending!

Another thing I love about Lynette Eason's books is that she sets almost all of them in her home state of South Carolina, in cities that she knows well. And because of that as well as her amazing writing, even though I know that I'm reading about a big city it really feels like a small town! Much like my hometown, which is why I love that her books have that feel to them!

Nowhere To Turn also has a wonderful message about God's love for us, and learning to put our trust in Him alone!

If you enjoy Christian romantic suspense, I highly recommend Nowhere To Turn, though I think you might want to read No One To Trust first.

Lynette Eason's Nowhere to Turn is a page-turner of a romantic suspense. Danielle Harding just wants to escape her abusive husband. The day she has the courage to flee, he's killed. She believes her problems are over and she can begin to build a life for herself and her twelve-year-old deaf son. But she's wrong. In some ways her problems are multiplying. The book became a page-turner of a race to figure out who was after her. Trouble comes from many directions. And she has something that somebody dangerous wants. The problem is she has no idea what that is. The body count builds as the tension ratchets up chapter by chapter. There's also a realistic romance that builds over the weeks of the chase.

There is also a spiritual thread of letting go of the past. Of being willing to trust God with the future and move into what He has for us without the heavy chains of the past tugging us backward.

Lynette Eason is an author who I think gets better with every book. Each new one I seem to race through faster than the prior books. At this rate, the next one will disappear in the blink of an eye!

The action & tension grabs you from the very first page & doesn't let up until end. Dani & Simon have lived in fear of Kurt for years. Finally free of him, life starts looking up. Then out of the blue someone tries to kill Dani & their life is in an upheaval. They are running for their lives, and once again scared.
I felt that Dani was a very real character. She was scared, but when she needed to act, she acted. She did what the agents told her to do. But when circumstances dictated she make a decision, she was able to do so, good ones. It was also neat to once again read about some of the characters in the first book. Adam was a great character as well.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The next installment of Eason’s Hidden Identity series is a thrill ride from start to finish. She has a first-rate ability to write twisting plots that keep the reader guessing the identity of the true villain until the very end. There are a couple of plot points that are quite obvious to readers, yet law enforcement doesn’t figure them out until very late in the story. Yet, overall, this is a gripping mystery.
Dani Harding has finally garnered enough courage to take her young son and escape her abusive marriage to FBI agent Ryan ... yet things don’t go as smoothly as planned. In a separate incident, Ryan ends up being killed. Ryan’s brother, Stuart, has long been obsessed with Dani, and now his obsession turns to stalking. Stuart is always a step ahead and manages to find her when she is finally able to escape. Is he the only one looking for her, or does someone else want what Ryan had been trying to hide?

3.5 Stars

I have read several of Lynette Eason's novels and have enjoyed them. I love twisty and dark mysteries and she delivers. However, I had a hard time getting into this book. There was some twist in this story, but it wasn't a real surprise to me. I cannot highly rate a book when I can guess all the twists. However, the pace and intensity picked up towards the end and sucked me into the story. Hopefully, since I have liked all her other books, this is just a "bump in the road" and her next will be back to what I expected.

Not my favorite Eason, really. I got halfway through and put it down for four months, so it definitely isn't as suspenseful as others. Also, the ultimate reveal relied a trifle too much on a coincidence for me to find it satisfying; also, it raised just about as many questions as it answered. And the writing was much more choppy than her usual, with sentence fragments and comma splices: I get that some authors use that to show action, but it didn't gel with the action that was actually happening.

Still, an enjoyable story with plenty of twists and some great characters.

I think this is the lowest I have rated a Lynette Eason story. The main reason for the low rating on this occasion though is because of the narrator. I really struggled to get into the story, partly because a lot of different things were going on as the story was set up, and a lot because the narrator's voice drove me nuts. Once I got used to her style, I got more into the story, but it definitely took the edge off my enjoyment of it.
