I have one word for this little Christmas book—SWEET!

The Christmas Cat is about Garrison, a man in his 30s, who is directed by the strict criteria in his grandmother’s will to find outstanding homes for her 6 cats. At this point in his life, Garrison is a bit lost, having just returned from a 9 year stint in Uganda building wells for people who couldn’t afford them. As he carefully follows his Gram’s instructions in placing the cats, he begins to find happiness and his post-Uganda true purpose

I found the story lacking depth, too superficial even for a novella. It had hints of everything: a little romance, a bit of male bonding, snippets of animal loving, pieces of faith. If it was done properly it would have been a great story, it had many likeable characters I'd like to know more about.
But I loved the fur-babies.

Cats and Christmas – a purr-fect combination in my book! InThe Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson, Garrison Brown has just returned from a nine-year stint in Uganda because he contracted malaria. Now, instead of helping to construct wells, he suddenly must find homes for his recently deceased grandmother’s six cats. Although he is caught between his feelings of grief and guilt for not having spent more time with his Gran, who took him in after his parents died when he was twelve, and his unease abo ...more

If it seems too early to be reviewing Christmas books, I agree. But, they're already being released, and this one was even in the library. But, I'd be perfectly happy to always read the Christmas books in the eighty degree weather we had this week. And, I'm always happy to read sweet books about cats. Melody Carlson's 2014 holiday book, The Christmas Cat, is sweet and hopeful, just what Christmas books are supposed to be.

At thirty-four, Garrison Brown is struggling. He's returned from nine years
Another great Christmas read from Melody Carlson. Garrison Brown's beloved grandmother has died. She has left her six best friends, her cats. Her will stipulates that each cat can only go to a specific kind of person/family. Garrison finds out this is easier said than done.

I love the small town feel of this book. Garrison grows so much as he finds himself interacting with the persons/families he finds to adopt one of the cats. A sweet, short read that I couldn't put down until I finished. Great

As usual, Melody Carlson gives readers a wonderful feel good holiday story that they can turn to year after year. Being a cat lover, this book's cover grabbed me from the shelf of my Barnes & Noble. I confess I didn't even read the inside flap lol. That beautiful picture of a Maine Coon cat was all I needed. And I wasn't disappointed.

The main character is left to deal with the 5 cats left behind by his recently deceased beloved grandmother.Though we don't meet the grandmother at the point wh

Great read!!! I REALLY loved and enjoyed this book! It's quirky and fun! The messages throughout are fabulous to name a few: realizing we need to make time to visit those we love before they reach heaven before us and to not give up on people even if they've given up themselves! Melody really knows how to write about cats, I could just picture them!!! Each with their own personality and attitudes! I LOVE how Garrison re-homes them and how Melody writes it so you can "see" God's hand and help thr ...more

The Christmas cat is a quick read. It is witty, clever, surprising
and unpredictable.
Garrison Brown returns from Uganda where he has been doing
missionary work. He visits his grandmother once. She is the
one who raised him when he lost his parents as a child. Then
grandmother unexpectedly dies. Garrison is left with
her six cats and run down house. Garrison is allergic to cats.
What will he do with the cats? What will he do with the house?
What will he do with his new life?
The characters were well

Oh my goodness I loved this Christmas novel! It was a lot of fun in many ways and had a great premise!

I have to admit that even though I’m not a cat person, I got attached to the cats like Garrison as the story progressed. I also bonded with the neighbors he meets as well in the different interactions he has with each one.

The message of community and finding yourself in Christ was inspiring. It’s not always easy to achieve the dreams that God has placed in our heart, but as Garrison realizes th

I don't like cats but I don't have a cat phobia like our Garrison here. It was a cute story; the cats were, um, interesting to say the least. I've known a lot of cats and a lot of cat owners. Yet, they seem to all say the same thing, a concept I have yet to see, cats each have their own distinctive personalities. They certainly did in this book! Fast read and it was short and sweet. My first book from Ms. Carlson; not my last though.
Anna's Herding Cats
Well that turned out cute. The first 1/4th of the books, though, goodness I would have been okay if the hero had been run over by a rogue carriage because Garrison hates cats and is okay letting everyone know. Ugh.

The Gist: His grandmom died and thank goodness she put all of her cats in her will with very specific instructions or they would have ended up at the shelter. Instead Garrison has to find them all GOOD homes.

I did love the kitties. They each have individual personalities and were cut

This is hard for me to rate and should really be a 3.5 at least. When I first picked it up I had a hard time getting in to it and set it down. When I picked it up to finish since it was overdue. My bookmark had gotten put back in the wrong place, but I was drawn into the story and then went back to reread the book from the beginning.

This was a quick read, but the story was too over the top for my liking. I like that it took place in Vancouver at Christmas. The humans were okay, and some of their relationships were interesting. The romance felt rushed, but there is a happy ending. I didn't like the cats. I think it's because there were too many of them.

This was a cute story. Harry reminded me so much of our Maine Coon, Shadoe, who we lost two years ago right before Christmas. They really are amazing cats!

It’s a delightful Christmas feel good novel from one of my favorite authors. What makes this book extra special is the fact it evolves around cats. Cats are fun, mysterious, and have such different personalities!

Garrison Brown had meant to visit his grandmother more when he returned from Uganda but with several Dr. Appointments for his malaria and looking for a job; things got crazy. Now she was gone! His Grandma’s attorney wanted to see him right away. He couldn’t imagine what was so urgent. He

Cat lovers will adore THE CHRISTMAS CAT by Melody Carlson and non-cat lovers may have a change of heart.

This is a heartwarming story that deals with a man’s love for his grandmother and her faith he will find his right path in life.

After returning from a nine year missionary trip to Uganda and a bout with malaria, Garrison Brown feels guilty for not visiting his grandmother more when he learns she has died. Meeting with her attorney, Garrison discovers his grandmother has an unusual request for

“Gram taught me a lot of valuable things. Like telling the truth and persevering even when a situation looked like it was hopeless.”

Though her dying wishes are mighty peculiar and difficult to follow, he’s determined to carry them out. In doing so, he meets a variety of people, overcomes fears, and learns more about his grandmot

Cute book reminding me about Faith and helping others. Especially important is the love of a pet and how that can change lives. Great Christmas read. Tracy and Corky and others who own cats would love this.

I read a Melody Carlson Christmas book every December. It's like reading a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Last year I read The Christmas Dog and sometime while shopping shortly after Christmas, I found a copy of the more recent The Christmas Cat. I decided to buy it and save it for this year.

I'm not a cat person. I've never had a cat other than a couple of strays I played with as a young girl. I don't know how to have a cat. But I have always wanted to get my son a pet and the expense and intensity of

The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson is an excellent book. The characters are so well described and the scenery is so vivid that you will feel like you are right there.
Garrison the main character is such a likable person. He doesn’t hate cats, but he doesn’t love them either. He is severely allergic to cats, but has the job of placing his grandmother’s cats in different homes after she passed away. Only six cats, but for Garrison that seems like a million. He can’t simply give them away to any

This is a sweet little Christmas story that everyone should enjoy, but it is especially great for cat lovers. After his parents died when he was just a child, Garrison Brown was raised by his Grandma, who lived a number of years with her husband in Kenya, until her husband died and she had to leave.

When Garrison grew up, he worked in Uganda for a number of years. Shortly after he came back to the states, his Grandma died. Her one request was for Garrison to find good homes for her six cats. Thi
