A Blessing a Day from Popular Author and Radio Host
This beautiful devotional gift book is for readers who want to start their day with a reminder of God's love and purpose for them. So often we wake up worried about our to-do lists and responsibilities and need a reminder of how God feels about us and who we are in him. Several years ago Susie began posting daily blessings on Facebook, and since then thousands have responded and forwarded the blessings along to others.
The blessings take only moments to read, but are packed with biblical promise and perspective. Along with a blessing, each day's spread also includes a related Scripture to point readers back to God's timeless truth.
Susie Larson hosts a daily radio talk show that airs across the upper Midwest and contributes a weekly feature heard nationally on Moody Radio. Active in local ministry as well as International Justice Mission, she has authored six previous books and been a guest on national TV and radio programs, including Focus on the Family. Susie and her husband, Kevin, have three adult sons and live near Minneapolis, Minnesota.
My family and religion have taken many different paths but the belief in God has been strong in both my parents. I have struggled with faith throughout life, I was raised Catholic and having God in my life has become something necessary now, whereas when I was younger I had lost my faith and belief. My mother used to read daily prayers but I was never in the habit. I started this book after my mom's death and I was looking to add a daily devotional to my life. A friend recommended this book, so I started this long ago (2014) but unfortunately I did not make it a habit until this year. I actually started reading a Billy Graham daily devotional book this year and started reading this book daily also. I am now in the habit and find it a time in my day that I focus on God which is very uplifting. I must confess that this book is good but I love Billy Graham's Unto the Hills. Billy Graham is not just a preacher but a teacher and besides the daily prayer, he gives his vast experience in stories relevant and enjoyable. Since my mom's death, other family members have followed and I find that God's presence in my life growing stronger and preparing spiritually for death whenever God sees fit because life's journey is not told until we cross that path and some journeys are way too short.
Are you looking for a positive way to start each day?
If so, consider incorporating a reading from Susie Larson’s Blessings For The Morning – Prayerful Encouragement To Begin Your Day into your daily routine!
Susie’s new book, Blessings For The Morning, is filled with hand-picked Scriptures and words of blessing and encouragement, against a backdrop of gorgeous, full-color photographs, that will infuse you with the courage and inspiration to face even the most challenging of days!
This beautiful devotional provides a beautiful reminder of just how much God loves you! It is a perfect pick for those with limited amounts of time to read. It’s also a beautiful book to read aloud to someone you love.
The one thing that you should be aware of, however, before purchasing this book is that the small font against the colorful backgrounds makes it difficult for those with visual impairments to read. In future editions, I hope that the publishers will consider increasing the font size since this would make a good product even better!
If you are looking for a wonderful gift for yourself or a loved one, consider combining Blessings For The Morning with Susie Larson’s companion book, Blessings For The Evening.
This book seemed to completely lack spiritual depth , and really, despite all of the cheesy vibrant 1999 pictures, was devoid of any texture or staying power. I realize that this book is probably marketed for a different generation than I am from, especially given the photo selection and grandma graphics. So I am sure there are people out there who are very satisfied in their spiritual journey, who just need a little ump in their step— and find that here in neon green and pink pillow back (a very fluffy book cover) However, for me, (a lover of mystic non-mainstream non-popular deep deep Christianity) it came across as very general and shallow. It lacked any sincerity and authenticity. An amazing devotional that I would suggest instead, is “Devotional Classics: Selected Readings for Individuals and Groups” Edited by Richard J Foster. This book seems more like a gift basket book, or a book that you would keep on your toilet for looks. It has a nice cover and aesthetically appealing to the right age demographic, which I would say is way older than I. I tore out one page to keep as a bookmark, it was the only page that spoke to me. I regretted that right after, because I’m about to donate the book… And I’m sure someone out there will think it’s cute, or give it to someone… Who will in turn find frayed edges from where I stole a page. Obviously, there are a lot of great scripture selections— not bashing those. But the “may you be blessed and may you have an amazing life” style of writing does for me very little to aid in spiritual enrichment, growth, passion, heart, and adventure. The jist of the writing looks like: “may, may, may you…” yada yada. And may all that be true, but may you actually find Jesus to be unlike anything the world has to offer, and richer and deeper than all the books in the world could describe… but at see out ones that try— to incite love and a ferocious hunger.

Getting to start each day with the encouragement that God fervently loves me and is working in and thru me all the time truly changes the way I approach life and all that comes my way. Thank you, Susie Larson, for being God's voice to me so very often. I strongly recommend this book for anyone looking to put feet to your good intentions of following Jesus and loving others well. And for those dealing with depression, God used this book to keep my head above water during my darkest days. Knowing that He is with me in my struggle to just get out of bed and wasn't judging me, but instead was going to provide just what I needed throughout the day made a huge difference!!
Daily encouragement. My one complaint is that they are not dated so I works simply read one a day. Turns out when you get to the end it’s all about Christmas and ends with the start of a new year. Don’t remember how many there are but maybe this was meant to be read from the start of the year. Still enjoyed this.
When I came to the end of this book, I wished there were more. This gift from my youngest sister had beautiful pictures, scripture, and what I originally thought were devotions and then prayers, but they are actually the author blessing the reader. They read very much like prayers for someone, but the pronoun "you" refers to the reader, not God. I could almost imagine many of these being inside encouragement-style greeting cards, between the beautiful pictures and the blessings.
I loved the first one, "Persevere With Feisty Faith," and there are other favorites scattered throughout the book, with lines line, "May you put your hope in Him and not in the approval of man."
"And may many be nourished by your life and come to know Jesus more intimately because of your healed, whole life."
"May He refresh your sense of purpose. May He renew your love for those He's given to you."
"May you find cause to celebrate and rejoice over all that is right in your world. Refuse to let worry have the last say."
"May He use you to be a source of refreshment to many. And may you pause today to notice the good things in your life, and give thanks."
However, when the author wandered from giving blessings to more devotional-type material, I found myself arguing with her, writing in the margins. Her words, at first glance, don't seem to have much to do with the scripture verse included, and it almost seemed as if she had unknowingly absorbed society's idea that our desires are good simply because we desire them.
She wrote, "Your desires are especially close to His heart." To which, I responded, "Not always," and gave scripture references - James 1:14-15, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 145:9, Proverbs 13:4, Proverbs 11:6, and Isaiah 55:8. Destructive desires exist which are not close to His heart and since His ways are higher than ours, even when we think our motives are good, we don't always know best. The theme of God holding our desires close was repeated several times in the book, and in other places I referenced Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:24, Romans 8:5, Galatians 5:16-24, and Ephesians 4:22.
Similarly, not all of our dreams are best. It depends on whether our dreams are God-given or just goals that our hearts desire. I referenced Proverbs 12:11, Proverbs 10:21, Proverbs 11:6, and Proverbs 11:27
Another one was, "All of heaven is on your side." That's not always true, either. Jesus showed His love for us by dying for us, but the question is not whether God is for us, but whether we are for Him.
A rather chilling example of that is Joshua 5:13-14, in which two armies were about to meet in battle, and Joshua saw the angel of the Lord. Joshua asked whose side the angel was on. If anyone had a right to think God was on his side at that time, it was probably Joshua, since he had been sent by God and was doing what God told him to do. But the angel responded, "Neither" and called himself "Commander of the army of the LORD." Joshua's response should be ours. Rather than trying to get God on his side, he decided he wanted to make sure he was on God's side. He called himself God's "servant" and awaited orders.
Jesus said another telling verse about who is on God's side in John 18:37 - those that listen to truth, that listen to Him.
I think of it this way. God will not deny Himself. He will not deny truth, justice, mercy, and everything that makes Him God. So, He will not join our "side" because our "side" has things that are not of Him, that go against truth, justice, mercy and so forth. He will not agree to that. But He still welcomes us to His own side with mercy and forgiveness. It is a very serious challenge to make sure that we are on His side, and that in any issue we are not going against Him.
Finding those sorts of things in this book troubles me because the author does not know the people reading this book or what their mind-set or heart-set is, yet she says that God endorses it when she says that He is on their side or that their desires and dreams are close to His heart. He may have better desires and dreams for us.
Although I found it disturbing that the author didn't seem to realize where her devotions left scriptural basis, absorbing our society's ideas, there were plenty of other good things written in this beautiful book. Just be careful.
Blessings for the Morning: Prayerful Encouragement to Begin Your Day, by Susie Larson, is a little book of blessings that can be read in the morning to spiritually jump-start your day. The book is arranged with a blessing and a scripture quotation on each double page. Each of these has a header sentence that introduces the theme, such as "Wisdom to guard and guide," and "Forgiveness and mercy," etc.
What I liked about this book:
Presentation-wise, this is a gorgeous book. The cover is padded, the colors are well selected, there is a nice pink bookmark built in so you can keep your place, and a "presented to" page at the beginning. This would make a nice gift for graduations, birthdays, etc. All of the pages have full-page photos as the background image, making this a very vibrant, colorful book, which helps give it more appeal beyond just the words on the page; though it is not overly wordy, there is no "wasted space." The photos themselves are very beautiful, and usually involve nature--sky scenes, landscapes, flowers. In fact, the presentation is probably one of my favorite parts.
But the blessings are nice too. They are not deep or complicated, but seek to remind us that God is with us as we begin our day. Most of them contain about 4 to 7 lines. Here are examples of some of the lines from different blessings:
"In this day of uncertainty, may God give you a faith that cannot be shaken."
"When the storm rages overhead, may you know--with everything in you--that new mercies are on the other side."
"May God heal your heart, soul, mind, and body, and may you approach life with eternity in mind."
What I didn't like about this book:
There wasn't much. Obviously this is not what you want if you're looking for any kind of in-depth study of scripture. Some of the phrases used may seem to become repetitive, especially if you want to read it more than daily. I could also perhaps critique the out-of-context use of certain phrases, such as "God is for you," which certainly depends on the person reading, and does not offer a blanket approval to everything any person does--otherwise it could venture into sentimental territory.
But provided this is read by someone who has enough understanding of scripture to see the bigger picture and is not using this as a means of learning it, then it can be a lovely way to remind oneself of some timeless and encouraging truths from God's word, and remind us to keep our focus on him--because he values us very much.

My Review:
Sweet sentiments guaranteed to brighten your day! With just over 200 pages you will be able to find encouraging words from the author Susie Larson and some great accompanying scripture that will motivate you to soldier on each day. With each devotion there are absolutely breathtaking photography to make you smile.
The very first devotion in the book made me smile because it talks of feisty faith. I love that! God has that same feisty faith in us to live out our faith for the world to see. I love my Father and spending time with Him should get a little easier with this short and sweet book of devotions.
Blessings for the Morning, is a blessing that contains a blessing. It is a beautiful book and it would make an exceptional gift for someone, especially since Easter is just around the corner. This book is very heartwarming and will definitely uplift you and get your day started on the right path!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from Bethany House.
Right out of the box I knew Susie had put together something exceedingly helpful for those, like me, in a busy stage of life. Blessings offers a sturdy, smaller size perfect for storing by bedsides, by favourite chairs, or in purses where it can be easily accessed in the morning. There is even a ribbon bookmark to help the more distracted (like me) find my place the next day!
The material itself is beautifully presented with photo-based backgrounds that, I find, consistently draw me in, often before I even begin reading the daily text. This has had the unexpected benefit of helping me distance myself mentally from the busyness in our home, something I have struggled with for years when trying to find quiet times.
The reading itself is simple. Larson presents a verse, a theme, and a series of promises, ideas, and challenges with which readers can direct their focus for their day. Keeping in mind the busyness of her target audience, these readings can be done quickly or used as an introduction to a longer time of prayer and reading depending on the needs and schedule of the reader. Either way, lack of time is certainly not a reasonable excuse for skipping out with the user-friendly method Larson has compiled.
I do understand that some may be seeking a morning devotional with more depth and substance for Biblical learning. That is not Larson's endeavor with this book and those who wish to use this material for sole academic studying will be sorely disappointed. In all honesty, when I first started exploring Blessings the first thing that came to mind was - baby steps.
Blessings can help readers in times of life where quiet time is a challenge due to any number of circumstances re-enter into a daily space with their Creator. These easy to access daily meditations can serve as a way to wet the appetite as readers re-learn what it means to spend time daily doing devotionals- baby steps.
All in all I am impressed with Larson's book and give it 4 out of 5 stars.

He’s writing a story, arranging circumstances, moving in the hearts of people specifically for you. He loves you that much. (pg. 127)
If you enjoy biblical trinkets, devotionals, or inspiring memes, Blessings for the Morning, overflowing with blessings, is a lovely match.
Upon reading the devotions the hymn Fill my cup, Lord (chorus below) came to mind—an appropriate way, in my opinion, to demonstrate the theme of this book.
Fill my cup, Lord I lift it up, Lord Come and quench this thirsting of my soul Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole
Colorful, serene illustrations fill the pages, with each morning treasure covering a two-page spread. On the left side is a Bible verse or passage, and the right side contains meaningful commentary to help uplift your morning with encouragement and inspiration.
This attractive, 5 ½” x 7 ½” (approximate) book has a cushiony cover and built-in bookmark ribbon. It makes a lovely, thoughtful gift for anyone who enjoys inspirational books.
Blessings for the Morning delivers simple thoughts to start your day in the right frame of mind. The devotions are brief, and the illustrations are pretty, which kept me turning pages and feeding my soul.

Age Appropriate For: All Ages Best for Ages: All Ages
Are their times during your day that you could just use a little pick-me up? I find that I have few of those each day. How quick I am to go for the tea (since I am not a coffee person) or something else. Yes, I am very slow to learn that what I really need is not found in a cup, but within the pages of a book. This gorgeous little devotional helps remind me.
Each page of this little book is just lovely. The pictures are stunning and the script inviting. The cover just begs to be opened, and the bookmark that is attached makes it easy to keep your place. It couldn’t be a more attractive book.
This devotional sits in my bathroom, and often I will sit there and read one of the entries. While the devotionals themselves are not incredible or deep, they helped turn my focus where it needed to be: on God. If you want something that you can use to study the Bible or be the center of your quiet time, this is not it. But if you need a little something just to turn your focus on God during the day, this is perfect.
I highly recommend this for those who love beauty, short devotionals, and just need a little something to brighten their day. It would also make a wonderful gift.

Blessings for the Morning by Susie Larson is the latest book that I'm reviewing for Bethany Publishing House.
The book has a lovely cover and at first glance the messages are short and sweet, very much a pep talk for your soul. The serene pictures for each day can add to the emotional experience, helping women to feel encouraged, at peace, and calm.
At second glace, the book is a full of therapeutic moralistic deism. There is very little about Christ and nothing about what He has done for us. Even the day entitled "No Condemnation" which mentions Christ does not tell the reader why there is no condemnation. Christ crucified for your sins is simply nonexistent in this book. With a Bible verse on each page, one can guess that the book is Christian, but in the blessing part it never tells us why we are blessed or how we are blessed.
Christmas Eve's blessing and many others ask us to have an emotional response: to become weak in the knees, overwhelmed, and be overtaken (Abundantly Blessed pg111). This loss of self is a classic sign of mysticm.
I do not recommend this book as it is not a good book to grow one's faith but rather just another feel-good good luck charm almost in the same line as the name-it/claim-it theology.
Bethany Publishing House gave me a complimentary copy of this book to review for my honest opinion.
This is not just a wonderful book, but it will give you something in return.
BLESSINGS!
I connected with Susie Larson through Facebook and I am one of the thousands that look for her blessings every day. At first I only shared to my page for myself to go back and reread and reflect on, but suddenly all my friends were making comments and thanking me for posting them. When this book was released I knew it was one I would buy. She brings a special message each day that is both uplifting and encouraging at the same time. This day and time that is something that each one of us needs. They also remind us that no matter the problems big or small that God is always right there loving us. They also remind us that we never walk alone. I have enjoyed this book a lot. In fact I loved it so much that I have purchased one for my daughter. She received it at Christmas and took it back to college with her.
I would recommend this to anyone.
I received this from Bethany House for a honest review without bias as stated above.
Start each day with a blessing from God's word. Each page is set with a beautiful photograph and then encouraging words are watermarked on top. The left side of the page has a scripture that ties in with the devotional on the right side. Each devotional is designed for encouragement, peace, and inspiration.
This is a gorgeous book, from front to back. The photographs are beautiful and peaceful. Each devotion is thought provoking and powerful. I looked forward to reading one each morning. This book would make an excellent gift. The devotions touch on so many different subjects that women deal with every day. There are also a few that are for specific occasions such as Christmas.
I received this book free of charge from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.
This book has really been wonderful! This is one of those small "gifty" type books with positive verses. But this book in particular is something I have been reading every morning. I like reading something before going to work and it's nice because this book picks a verse for me and also gives me a few words from the author. This book gets my day started and I have really enjoyed reading it. I think Susie writes well and is very encouraging. The pictures are always good and the teacup on the cover makes me happy.
If you need some words of encouragement on a daily basis please get this book!

Lovely little book with little words that contain big truths. It is a great reminder of God's faithfulness at the start of the day! These truths easily resonate with anyone and will carry you through the day:) I loved the amazing photography in the book as well! This is definitely a book that I will go back to time and time again when I need reminders of God's faithfulness in the midst of my problems.
I received this book through a Goodreads Giveaway. This is a cute little devotional that I will reference often. I really like the thoughts that go along with the bible passages. As someone who didn't grow up in the church, some devotionals are just too much for me. This one is just my style. I think it would make a great gift for friends and family.
This book is absolutely beautiful! While reading it you will also enjoy the pictures. I am now reading it again, one each morning. The written word and pictures feed my inner self. Well worth owning.
This gem has been sitting by my bedside and has given me much inspiration and often peace on most days often at times most unexpected. Well worth keeping nearby.
