I purchased By My Choice last night and couldn't put it down until I had finished
reading it, way past bedtime. If I were honest with a price tag of $1.10 I wondered what
kind of quality I would get but because of the cost I took a leap of faith after all I
wasn't going to lose much. All I can say was WOW! I wasn't sure what to expect
with "erotic romance with elements of mild bondage" in a story about supernaturals. Was I ever surprised by the quality of writing, well developed characters and a gre

When I started reading By My Choice, I was immediately impressed by the level of detail, and the quality of writing – two things you don’t often find in novellas. Jennifer, our main character, has spent her whole life in a court of vampires, mostly keeping count of the finances. But she barely resembles the girl her best friend met the first time he

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Christine Blackthorn has a gift for creating characters that stick with you long after you've finished reading and make you long for more. And more.

This story starts out with a betrayal of the worst kind, and, before she knows it, financial manager Jennifer Ashton's rigidly controlled life is turned upside down when she finds herself in Paris with a new Master and a new set of rules.

A definite must read for all supernatural rom

A great short story, only wished it was longer. The breadth of emotion that Christine was able to convey was amazing,I found myself totally bound in the story.Somehow I was there with Adrian and Jen,eavesdropping on their conversation, a voyeur watching their every move. Well done Christine, looking forward to reading more of your writing.

Absolutely loved this book. You become completely immersed in the world she has created even though it is a short book. I wish it was longer only to enjoy it even more. I look forward to the next book and will more than likely read anything she writes.

I love a good erotica tale. However, all too often, the sex is the story rather than being driven by the story. I want a little intelligence with my shattering textual orgasms. I also don't want the woman in the story to be a doormat or a sex-starved nymph.

By My Choice is the story of Jennifer. She's a human in a world of paranormals. By that, I mean that she was raised in the paranormal court. So she's grown up around vampires all of her life. One of the traditions in the vampire court is to s

I wasn't sure what to expect with how it began. Wasn't sure where it was going. It was obvious these two best friends were hurting. One feeling betrayed the other because of what he was doing. They were separating and he couldn't tell her why. He wanted to protect Jennifer but couldn't be what she was going to need so he had to to what he hoped she could forgive him for and sell her.

When I first heard that I was like whoa but as I read on I began to see what the world of being a leige in the Vam

Despite this being a short read, I enjoyed it a lot. A man and a woman robbed of the ability to make a choice, now have to make a decision on how that loss will take place. It was an interesting take, and despite my initial fears that the descriptions or internalised feelings would make for boring paragraphs, I was sucked in my Ms. Blackthorn's writing.

And I have never before enjoyed the portrayal of a 5-page kiss. That was, by far, the most erotic part in the whole book for me.

I love vampire politics and stories. They simply fascinate me and I really, really enjoyed the world that the author created with "By My Choice." I was sucked right in from page one until the words ended and the book closed. The main female lead, Jennifer, goes through a lot in this book and I found myself connecting with her a lot. The details the author puts into the story really allows you to assume the role of the characters involved and makes you feel a part of the world. It's a rare gift t ...more

This was a very short read, but I felt the writing was well done. I could vividly picture the surroundings and how each character felt without being overwhelmed with drawn out descriptions. The story didn't feel rushed but I also felt like not a lot happened and it stopped just when it was starting to get good. This story reminded me of the early Anita Blake stories by Laruell K. Hamilton, which is a definite complement. The heroine was strong-willed without being masculine or obnoxious and the ...more

I don't normally choose a book with no reviews as I can't stand poorly written and edited books. Reviews give me an insight into this. But the book overview interested me and I'm glad I did. Although a novella, I was thoroughly engaged with the characters and story. I definitely wanted more and agree that this could have developed into a novel but the story was complete and told with a descriptive writing style. Always a good sign, I went looking for another book by the author (none on Amazon ...more

By My Choice is an excellent paranormal romance novella with an erotic twist. Jennifer has spent her whole life in a court of vampires, but is sent away to another court against her will. Soon she's under the control of another vampire master in Paris - and if she doesn't submit to him, she'll die. Can Jennifer give up her freedom of choice?

The setup for the story is strong and the erotic scenes towards the end are satisfyingly steamy. Jennifer is a complex character and the writing in general i

I would have given this book 5 stars but it kind of felt like something was missing from the beginning. I was a little confused about who the two main characters were and what was happening between them. As I read on, it made more sense and I enjoyed the story. I do wish that the book was longer as I would like to know more about what happens between Jen and Adrian.

An intriguing tale set in an amazing world

I began reading this book not quite sure what to expect. I was thinking this is going to be a typical vampire love story but it is anything but. First of all the relationships between the characters are not your typical “the human is weak and the vampire is a predator” exploiting that weakness. Instead you have a world where humans work with paranormal beings work in a sophisticated and dignified way. One of these humans is Jennifer, our main protagonist

Thanks for that!

There's only one way to discribe this book:
The first chapter

It kinda was... The first chapter was a bit unnnecessary, in my opinion. I couldn't care less what Fabian felt by selling his best friend. And it also didn't serve the rest of the story. I mean, if I'd begun to read at the second chapter (without reading the first) I don't think it wouldn't have mattered alot.

The rest of the book

Well, I think I made my point :P

When I was first asked to review this book, I made a little woops and didn't read the description before I opened the book, so by the cover I knew it must be a romance of some sort but that's about all I knew. So when vampires started popping up I was totally surprised. But I am glad I read the book.

I liked the book. I liked it a lot. I thought that the descriptions of the courts were interesting. At first I was really curious as to what was wrong with Jen, I thought she was going to be some kin

This was a quick hot read of a unique story, and despite it being so short, I still enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

The best part of the sex scenes in this book, besides the hotness level, was that I felt the scenes were a necessary part of the story, not just written for the sake of writing sex. The sex is story driven. It worked quite well, even for a novella.

I really love this book because it doesn't make the book dry and boring. Actually, this book is short and sweet. As well as, written in such a cleverly descriptive way that it feels much longer, details and descriptions are vivid and the character’s back stories are really well developed. According to my personal point of view,Ms. Blackthorn writes beautifully. It is fully developed and more satisfying. As well as,The romance aspects are mainly touching and very realistic, no tack here. It is amazing how a strong story can be made in a few pages, it gives you a sense of politics, betrayal
and the possibility to have a say in your life by surrendering to it.

Sometimes, one comes across a book just by chance. I saw this little novella promoted somewhere, downloaded it when it was free, and read it in one of my free hour. I didn't have much high hopes from it because it said it was a vampire romance, but knowing Christine Blackthorn as an author I decided to give it a try. By the time, I reached the ending, I was at the end of my seat. It's that good a book.

I received this book from LibraryThing via Member Giveaways. I enjoy good paranormal fiction (what girl doesn’t like a sexy vampire?) and I found the long sex scene to be sexy but not so erotic I felt uncomfortable reading it. It was a little strange because I feel like in a way she was forced to have sex with him because of her condition, yet she seemed to be enjoying it… It was hard to know how to feel about it! The book was a quick read because it is roughly 80 pages. I did have trouble fully ...more

I really love this book, I normally don't write reviews because it is just to time consuming but I thought I should write this one because the author deserves every bit of it. This book is great because it tells you of different events which changes the settings. This is good because it doesn't make the book dry and boring. First part is about betrayal and then Paris and then some more different events. In betrayal a woman name Jen feels as if this guy named Fabian betrayed so she questions ther ...more

Christine Blackthorn's, By My Choice, is a VERY interesting read! I haven't resd many books. in this genre, but I'm quickly becoming a new fan. The dialogue between Jen and her best friend Fabian is captivating and I found myself engrossed by the complexities of their relationship, and Jennifer's distress about having been betrayed by Fabian. The intimacy in this one is off the charts hot and the bondage, something I also didn't think I'd enjoy, was very tastefully written and presented. Very im ...more
