SO much better than the first book! I connected to the main character, Nicola, much more than I connected with Carl (the protagonist in the first book), the story was more intense, more shocking and more emotional. Reading this book, I got heart palpitations during certain scenes and I felt shock, horror and fear for the characters - always a sign of a good book! If you'd like a thriller with a paranormal twist, I'd recommend you read this.

It’s rather fitting that I read Water Born during summer, and an absolutely boiling British one too. Whilst The Drowning, the prelude to Water Born, dealt primarily with a dark side to water, the continuation gets darker still and tackles water and hot weather.

Set 17 years after the events of The Drowning, Nic is a passionate swimmer. In the manic clutches of a heat wave, Nicola starts to hear voices underwater, and then the drowning’s start to take place. Just what is happening, and what does

The story was captivating, but some of the characters just didn't seem 'real' to me.

I loved The Drowning but I loved Water Born even more. The stakes were higher, the pace was faster and it would work perfectly as a stand alone novel as well as a sequel.

I think the main thing for me with this book was how relatable Nic was as a character. This is probably quite a personal thing, but I struggled to relate to Carl in the first book as a young male with quite a poor family life. Nic, however, is a young female with a loving home and is also a competitive

WOW! Just WOW!

Having read (I should say DEVOURED) The Drowning as part of the Amazing Book Awards #ABA2014 Shortlist I was SOOOO excited to see a sequel arrive on the shelf. I started it on my commute to work, almost missed my stop, dived in again on my lunch break (found it hard to break away) read it on the bus home and missed whatever wwas on telly as I NEEDED to know the end! Read in less than a day!!

Rachel Ward has written this with excellent consideration of the reader. If you haven't read

If you've read The Drowning, then this stunning sequel will take what happens next on to a new depths of scary! More intense and with an even more disturbing evil in the water, this is a thriller that will keep you on the beach and out of the pool all year long! If The Drowning scared the pants off you and made you look over your shoulder every time you heard the tap dripping, this one will forever change the way you look at and feel about water. There's evil in the water. It's predatory. It's ...more

I really enjoyed this book.

The story is super creepy and makes you think long after you've finished it.

I loved that while it is a sequel it is a nice stand alone book in itself because I read too much and can never remember book one when I get round to reading the sequel.

Will make you never want to swim in open water ever again

Water Born is a compelling sequel to The Drowning and just as creepy, and added a twist at the end I didn't expect. Vivid and relatable characters.

Rachel Ward can't write fast enough as far as I'm concerned. This was another win with superb plotting and excruciating tension. Loved it.
