With vivid characters and nonstop intrigue, DEVOLUTION is a wild ride full of tradecraft, suspense, steamy sex, and spine-tingling action.
You know that feeling when a story gives you goosebumps? I love that feeling.
And the one where you read something that puts a lump in your throat and smoke in your eyes? I love that one too.
And the feeling that you know what's going to happen next, only to find out to your absolute delight that you couldn't have been more wrong? I love that feeling too.
I love reading stories that move me and challenge my assumptions and teach me something. I love the way a great author lures me in and takes me along for a fantastic ride.
I also love to write stories. It's how I spend my days and a good share of my nights, too. I'm on a quest to write the perfect story full of perfect sentences. I don't know if I'm anywhere close, but I enjoy the gentle struggle.
There are not too many books that I give up on, but this was one of them. After about 50 pages there were too many characters and so many different plot/story lines, that I found it too much work to try to keep up. Also the author seems to be flaunting his knowledge of 10 dollar words; really, is that necessary? I really thought I was going to enjoy this, the description sounded great, but I cannot waste time on a book that is like work for me.
I love this author’s command of the English language. He’s a skilled writer. I just got tired of the complex and depressing story. I read more than 30% before deciding to move on.
Devolution: A Sam Jameson Espionage & Suspense Thriller by Lars Emmerich is a five star suspense-filled thriller. I found it fascinating & was impressed by the amount of research done to compile this compelling book. It was riveting from start to finish.
I would like to thank the author & Polymath Publishing for a complimentary paperback copy of this book. Receiving it did not change my opinion for this review.
I look forward to reading more of the Sam Jameson books. I've added them all to my wishlist. I highly recommend this author.
received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review. A horrible book that I was unable to finish. Too many charactets. At halfway point I still wasn't sure what the book was about. I like suspense thriller but this was anything but thrilling!/
DEVOLUTION. by Lars Emmerich A Sam Jameson thriller Another good plot from Lars, full of intrigue, conspiracy, around the political world. Well done, and keeps you to the end. Looking forward to the next work by him.
I can't decide whether I liked this or not. In one sense, it was a fun read. In another, it was a rant about fiat currencies and global conspiracies involving the World Bank and, uh, Richard Branson.
I think if this was book 11 in a series it would be "good" and having that many characters... but for a first book it was a bit too much. Because you're still getting to know the author and the story is still be introduced and to top it off there's a lot of different characters you have to keep track of. I think once you get use to an author's way of writing you can appreciate their complexities but not in the first book.
It took me a long while to finish this book and I usually can get through them pretty quick.
In this part Lars Emmerich introduces concept of intentionally triggered crisis of world economy. It was very interesting to contemplate the idea. Characters and plot were captivating. I enjoy this kind of writing, but after reading 1074 pages, need to take a break, and perhaps return to my beloved non-fiction for a while.
Wow I just live Sam Jameson she knows her job. She loves Brock and will stop at nothing to keep him safe. This author knows how to make so book is not put down to end. I will continue to follow Lars Emmerich.
Enjoyed the book although it took a wee while to get into it. As other readers have commented, there is a bit of an overuse of '$100-words', but once getting past this annoyance, I loved it. Looking forward to the next 'chapter'
Lars has a minimalist approach to writing but that makes it even more enjoyable to fill in the gaps. Next to Barry Eisler, there is no one as entertaining and artistically pleasing as him. Definitely worth a try!
A good book. Really good book. Fast paced enough without being confusing. And with a good balance of all the characters chipping in just the right amounts. Will definitely look forward to more from the series. Go for it.
The first read by the author.Suspense, romance, conspiracies and murder. Fictional story about organization try to cripple financially the world, lots twists and turns , and intriguing conspiracies. Recommended
This book deals with the collapse of the US and world banking system. The dollar is devalued and is replaced by bitcoins. It is avery realistic book of adventure and power struggles. It was a good read for me but not quite what I expected.
Devoluton is an action packed read, but it took a longer than I expected to get the story moving. While the first part was informative, it was slow reading. Lar's books are fun reads and beyond what I've said, I like all of them. The chaacters are good, the plot is good, and the action is fast.
Interesting plot, TOO LONG and I HATE CLIFFHANGERS. It’s a shame that I enjoyed the author but despise when the author makes you buy the next book to find out what happened. And I was enjoying the read. But I refuse to buy anymore of his books.
Wow this book only spans a few days and seems to end so suddenly but there's more in the series. After getting far enough into it, it really kept me going. Very scary stuff.
An absolute thriller with so many twists and turns. Corruption and treason leading to the absolute highest levels imaginable. Super Sam saves the day again.
My first read from Mr. Emmerich was Meltdown. You know you are on to something when you read a book and you immediately start looking up the rest of the author's work. Sam is in the thick of things, as in the span of a week we are all over the map trying to stop the bad guys, who look good on the outside but no one is who or what you thought. Sam is a strong female character and she along with the other characters are so well developed that you can't help but get pulled in and want more It is fast paced, and there is something for every one. Espionage, rotten politicians, crooked billionaires and the worst mistake the bad guys make, kidnapping someone she loves. You don't want to go up against Sam though, she is a tough woman who plays by her own rules. We need more strong female leads and besides the Women's Murder Club series by Patterson, we haven't had a lot of those. If you haven't read any of Mr. Emmerich's books, get the list and start at the first one. I guarantee you won't be able to stop reading.
I have just finished reading this book, and can say I enjoyed it . A bit technically heavy in places, so found myself skipping stuff. Got the trilogy has a free download via facebook. The advert was calling the female lead character the new "Jack Reacher". Not even close. There are too many characters in the book to follow, I didn't even realise Sam was the lead character, all she did was give a couple of BJ's to her boyfriend , race around in her car a bit, and shoot a bloke in the knee. I am not sure she is even in the book till about a quarter of the way through. She doesn't seem all that smart or clever. She may be stronger in the second book, hopefully. It is an ok read, but I wouldn't pass the book to a friend and say you must read this.
The second book starts off right where this one finishes, and seems, so far to be moving along quite nicely.
I downloaded all three of these books for free and read them back to back. Quite honestly, and despite being free, they were poor. The plot has way too many holes in to be remotely plausible and I agree with other comments about there being too many characters and too much technical jargon. I cannot really justify my assertion that there are too many plot inconsistencies without giving the game away but suffice it to say that I was somewhat confused by the fact that Homeland Security would cosy up to the very people who had started all the problems and that those people were at all surprised by what the public did once the economy had melted down. Anyway, not all that impressed and I think Lee Child can rest easy as Sam is not even a poor (wo)man's Jack Reacher.
I think I’ve stated this before, but I have no qualms stating it again, Lars Emmerich is one hell of a talented writer! Step aside Clancy, Lars is nipping at your heels with this fast paced, edgy, conspiracy thriller that will have you thinking twice about past and current political, socio, and economic events. Lar’s puts a spin on events with such believability, it’s fuel for the fire of conspiracy crackpots everywhere. Lots of characters to keep track of and lots of graphic sex and violence.
Working both sides can be taxing and just who is pulling the strings. A well written keenly balanced piece exposing the behind the scenes manipulation of the system. Classic calm duck above the water, frantic paddling below leads to intrigue clashes of personalities and modalities that rushes along almost to a conclusion only for it to despatched away. Bring on the sequel.
