I listened to the audio book of Escaping Psychiatry by Olga Nunez Miret. The reader had a pleasant speaking style which made the audio book enjoyable. My only criticism is that in some parts the narration felt a bit rushed.

This book comprises of three short stories all featuring Mary Miller, a single female and a well known psychiatrist and writer of non-fiction, as the main protagonist. Each of the stories has a completely different setting, perpetrator, victim and set of extenuating

'Escaping Psychiatry' comprises three novellas charting the adventures of Mary, a reluctant psychiatrist.

I read the first two stories in the collection - 'Cannon Fodder' and 'Teamwork' - when they were published separately, and gave them both five stars. I was accordingly very happy to see the trilogy published in a single volume and to be able to devour the third part of the trilogy, 'Memory', which is a much more personal tale, and the threat component is closer to home.

There are some things in life which we want to get over or don’t want to dow any more with but the webbing of situations is done in such a way at that time that we are forced to do or take actions that we are not consciously admiring them to be. However, I believe in these times, if we take actions in the favour of situation and not us, it is still our decision to do so, subconsciously we do want to do the things which we earlier claimed we don’t want to.

Similar is the situation with Escaping

"Escaping Psychiatry" by Olga Núñez Miret is an intriguing collection of three short stories about psychiatrist Mary.
One story is about Cain, a young African-American man who believes that God speaks through him. Mary assess the young man for a lawyer and a court case.
The conversation between Mary and Cain is a great voyeuristic pleasure for people like myself who are interested in psychology. The client - therapist relationship has of course a different angle when there is a court case to

Delving into the Mind of a Killer!

This book was a fascinating trip through the mind of the psychotic patients of psychiatrist, Mary Miller. Mary has taken some time off from her practice to write a book. Through her friends she keeps being pulled back into her field to help some troubled souls.

There are a few different stories within this book involving Mary and her friend Phil who could be more than just a friend but the author keeps the reader guessing. Olga Nunez Miret uses her expertise in

When I review books and want to focus my review on the author’s particular qualities, I tend to find myself looking for a single word that best sums up the experience I had. Sometimes the word might be ‘thrilling’, sometimes ‘clever’, sometimes ‘imaginative’, and yes, sometimes ‘dull’. I wasn’t long into the pages of Escaping Psychiatry: Beginnings by Olga Núñez Miret when my mind was assailed by the word ‘subtle’.

Olga is a master (or, in these PC times, should that be ‘mistress’?) of the art

When the protagonist, Mary, is asked by her lawyer friend Phil and another friend on the police force to use her skills as a psychiatrist to help solve 3 crimes, Mary takes us on a psychological journey of discovery while delving into the minds of killers. The book is comprised of 3 different stories, one of which, unfortunately has Mary the victim of. Using her psychological skills through interrogation, Mary is determined to discover what makes these criminal minds tick.

I don’t know about you but I love a good mystery. If you do too, get comfy in your easy chair and pour a cup of tea! Escaping Psychiatry – the Beginning is a prequel to a trilogy called Escaping Psychiatry, which includes three books: Cannon Fodder – book 1, Team Work – book 2, and Memory – book 3.

This prequel introduces you to the cast of characters in Escaping Psychiatry. Dr. Mary Miller, the psychiatrist seems to be at a crossroads in her career. When her friend Phil, a criminal lawyer from

In this book I have collected the three stories I had published separately 'Cannon Fodder', 'Teamwork' and 'Memory' with an added epilogue that opens up the options for further adventures for Mary, the psychiatrist/writer who is the main protagonist. I've also corrected an edited again and commissioned a new cover.
I hope you enjoy the variety of the book, that mixes psychiatric interventions, therapies and assessments, with thrillers, crimes, and family secrets.
Let me know what you think.

My name is Olga Núñez Miret and I’m a writer. I also do translations of other author’s work. What else? I was born in Barcelona, Spain, lived in the UK for many years and went back home again in the Spring 2018. Over the years I’ve done many things and had other lives but however far I wander I keep coming back to books and stories, my two earliest loves. When reading was no longer enough, I ...more
