Fun Christian Middle Grade

Excellent diversity: blind student

Page 44, 45:
“I’ve never known a blind person before.” Stacy said. "I wondered what you were like."
Ellen swung on the bars. "I'm no different than anybody else."
Abby thought about that. "Your riddle was terrific," she said. "Did you make it up?"

Page 58:
Later, in the girls' bathroom, Leslie complained about Jason. "He's so hyper.
Never sits still, she told Stacy and Abby.
"Oh, that's just Jason," Abby said.
Leslie pulled hard on her stubby pig-tails. "How can you say that? He's disgust-ing!"
"Jason's our friend," Stacy spoke up.
"Yeah, and it doesn't make any difference to us if he's hyper."
Stacy stepped forward. "It's what's inside that counts. Think about it, Leslie Groff!" she said.

Although I enjoy all the kids in this series, I wasn't crazy about this story. Their "spirit day" was more of a "play tricks on each other" day ... and while the tricks were kind of funny, I thought some of them could have caused some distress for overly sensitive children, and I believe we need to be careful about that. I have enjoyed this series, but just didn't think this episode was helpful.

Why just why

It didn't have a story line or anything! Only kids, a teacher, and her niece! Why is all they do run around and look for a mystery and brownies? And what is cul-de-sac mean? And why is the name upside down day? And why at the end some one gets a chocolate bar🍫?

Great books for kids!! I loved the Christian influence and my 6 year old son could relate to the situations while still reading the book himself!! HIGHLY recommend!!
