I'll admit, when I read the prologue and realized it was from a dog's POV, I wasn't sure this book was going to be for me. However, I knew that somewhere within it's pages was a soldier or two and I am a sucker for soldier stories.

SECOND CHANCE RANCH was a pleasant surprise for me and that canine POV ended up being one of my favorite parts! In fact, that silly dog affected me more than the humans in the story and choked me up on more than one occasion. Not that the humans aren't entertaining, t

Shelter Me is a story that focuses on many different relationships: (our hero and heroine) Sierra and Mike, the various members of Sierra’s family, Mike with Grandpa McDaniel, Sierra’s mom Lacey and the vet, Ray, her animal rescue and the neighbors and even the family dog Trooper, rescued overseas and brought to the McDaniel family as a last wish from Sierra’s father, Allen, before he was killed in action. The point of view switches through

In Shelter Me (Second Chance Ranch #1) by Catherine Mann, Trooper is on his way home to his human family, and he has a mission. Help this family heal after the tragic loss of his human, The Commander (Allen) in Afghanistan. Rescued in Afghanistan and on his way to a different life, it is staff sergeant Mike's responsibility to deliver him to Allen's family, including his daughter Sierra...the woman Mike can't forget.

Having once been together, Sierra is not ready for the feelings still Mike bring

Staff Sergeant Mike Kolwalski only wants one thing when he gets home from Iraq, to sleep in a king sized bed with clean sheets! But before he does that he has to hand off his fallen commander's dog to his family without handing off his heart to Seirra.

Sierra McDaniel needs a break, a good long break! Her family life is crazy and when she's not mucking out the kennels, she's slogging her way through grad school. She certainly doesn't want yet another dog, especially because that reminds her of h

When I reread book 2 in the series, I thought I had already reread this one but realized afterward that I didn't. So obviously, I had to ;p

Shelter Me is a romance novel, a story of second chance between Mike and Sierra who used to date, but the military man broke things off with her, thinking it was best for her, that she was too good for him and he couldn't be there for her because of his career. But it's also the story of a grieving family, who's trying to recover from the lost of the father w

I won a copy of this book and I can't say enough about how good it was.. I loved all the people, and loved the dog "Trooper".. Sierra and her family have had a rough time with the loss of Sierra's father and her mother runs an animal rescue that keeps them all busy.. Her grandpa who has dementia is also living with them.. Now, Mike Kowalski is bringing them the dog, Trooper.. The dog was befriended by Sierra's dad in Iraq before he was killed and Mike thinks he should be with the family.. Some of ...more

I am a big fan of Catherine Mann, her romantic suspense is a fave of mine. From the moment I saw the cover I have been yearning to read. Contemporary romance has been my go to read as of late.
Shelter Me did not disappoint. I was hooked from the beginning. I found it interesting at times when Trooper (the dog) told it from his view. It was a story of loss...and of re-birth. The insight into the military family and the amazing g

This book DESTROYED me and I'm not sure why. It has a HEA, great characters, and is told through multiple points of view. I think I liked all of the characters so much that I hated for it to end. At several pivotal points in the story, Trooper, the canine rescue from Afghanistan, hijacks the narration, and while I thought it was cheesy at first, his little interruptions are what did me in. He sees everything so simply, yet so wisely, and his observations of his human caretakers added a
Not really what I was looking for, split romance with mother and daughter relationships getting equal time. Heavy on the emotional upheaval and everyday life of trying to move on after the death of a loved one, depression with thoughts of suicide,Alzheimer's disease,PTSD, and oddly, wildly vindictive neighbors. The quality writing you always get with Mann but slower moving and not a story I was, personally, feeling.

Wow. If you love romance, and you have any interest in animal rescue, then you NEED to read this book. It was so moving on so many levels. This is not a book you sit down and read all in one sitting. It's heavy, and you will cry. Probably more than once. But it's so beautifully done. I loved everything about it. This is my first book by Catherine Mann, and it definitely will not be my last!
Wonderful book, with several relationships to focus on. The main one is the one that develops between Mike and Sierra, but there are also family relationships and one potential romance that are included. There are multiple points of view, including my favorite, the sections that are seen through the eyes of the dog, Trooper.

The story begins with how Trooper joined Colonel McDaniel and his men in Iraq, and became an important part of their lives. Then his confusion at the Colonel's disappearance,

Shelter Me will break your heart a thousand times, then put it back together in this emotional, engaging story. Catherine Mann doesn’t shy away of bringing a heavy dose of reality to this first Second Chance Ranch novel, and that makes Shelter Me stand out from the crowd.

Sierra and Mike are two people who clearly love one another, but who can’t seem to make their chosen life paths mesh. Still, when Sierra’s father is killed in action and Mike brings Trooper ho

Mike and Sierra are two complex characters that have a rocky past with each other. Combine that rocky path with a military death and a dog on a mission; the fireworks are just waiting to blow!
Sierra is trying to adjust to her new life; mucking out kennels, bleaching toys, exercising animals, watching over her family. She’s not sure she can handle anything else and then Trooper knocks her down,

The Second Chance Ranch easily lives up to its name in this heartwarming tale. The McDaniels family is adrift as they continue to cope with the loss of Sierra’s father to a roadside bomb. To add insult to injury the neighbors want to shut down the Second Chance Ranch because they feel it is an undesirable element in the neighborhood. General McDaniel (Allan’s father) is in mid-stage Alzheimer’s and the family is struggling to cope with his declining health. While this is in theory Mike and Sierr ...more

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book... And let me tell you.... Lucky is the word indeed. I love Catherine Mann's books, and knew this one was gonna be a bit different. My dog has her own fb page, and she talks about things and people all the time... I had no idea that the dog in this book was gonna have such a great speaking role too. The way Cathy pulled that off was fantastic. The dogs thoughts and point of view were right on. He had a mission to finish.. And it wasn't gon ...more

Packed with emotion, Catherine Mann pulls out the big guns for SHELTER ME.

As if Sierra McDaniel's didn't have enough to deal with, helping her mother with the Dog Rescue, making sure her grandfather the general doesn't wander off, making sure her younger brother doesn't become one of those kids who goes to school one day and freaks out, and making sure the bills are paid by working hard at her job...but then Mike Kowalski had to come waltzing back into her life with Trooper, the pup that her fat

Catherine Mann is a talent to be reckoned with and SHELTER ME is one of the most beautiful and moving books she's ever written. This story brings the hardships of military families into sharp, unflinching focus while celebrating the quiet heroism of those who hold down the home front. By turns touching, heart-wrenching, and uplifting, SHELTER ME takes readers on a poignant and memorable journey.

First off, let me start out by saying that I'm a sucker for a good romance that involves animals. Seeing as Shelter Me takes place at Second Chance Ranch, an animal rescue the main character's mom runs out of their home, I knew I just had to read it.

After learning her father passed away while serving overseas for yet another tour, Sierra McDaniel and her family are devastated. Hanging by a thread, her mother is trying to save their animal rescue while her little brother recedes further and furt

The absolute best book ever

I've read several of Catherine Mann's novels but this has to be the best yet! Maybe that it's told from a dog's point of view helps make the story more believable but it also gives it more character. Trooper tells his story from his start in Iraq to his adoption by the platoon leader who steps on a IED. This wonderful dog then finds himself in Tennessee helping the family cope with the loss of their father, son and friend. Trooper manages to keep the family from fallin

Shelter Me.. it blew me away at the very end. This is Catherine Mann's first book in her new series. It is a military love story that is not like her others. The story starts with introducing us to Trooper- a dog in Iraq who befriends the servicemen while they are in country.
Then it takes us to a family dealing with the loss of a loved one and complications of moving forward from that loss.
There are a few twists and turns in the story, some I saw coming others not so much. And yes there were a

Helping her mom run her animal shelter, working towards her degree and holding an assistantship means her life is non-stop chaos. The last thing she wants to do is pick up a dog that’ll just remind her of her father. Staff Sergeant Mike Kowalski has one last thing to do before he can take advantage of his month long respite. This is a story about second chances and loving your family throughout the tough times.

I was drawn to this book because of the cover, it’s very adorable and it’s pet themed, so I knew it would be a light-hearted read.

I love animals, really love animals, but even I thought it was a bit weird when I started reading this book and the first chapter was told in Trooper's 1st person POV. Trooper is a dog. No, I haven't got my genres mixed up, yes this is a contemporary romance .... and yes, you will grow to love Trooper's POV by the end of the book. I have to say exploring an animal's POV certainly brings a certain nuance to the book.

So yes this book is full of adorable animals and whilst the book has been lik
