Now early readers can take a ride on the Magic School Bus!
With the help of Ms. Frizzle, young readers can develop their reading skills while they pick up fun facts about the world's ocean. Ms. Frizzle's class will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about the deep sea through this engaging and accesible reader. This is a great introduction to the Magic School Bus program.
Mary Kay Carson is an award-winning children’s nonfiction author. She has written more than thirty books for young people about wildlife, space, weather, nature, and history. Her recent non-fiction titles include Emi and the Rhino Scientist, about the Cincinnati Zoo's famous rhino mom; Exploring the Solar System, recipient of the 2009 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Children’s Literature Award; The Wright Brothers for Kids; Inside Tornadoes; and the Far-Out Guide to the Solar System series. The author also gives presentations at schools and libraries about space, animals, history, and writing.
This Magic School Bus companion book takes Ms. Frizzle and her charges deep under the sea. Not only will readers learn about the ocean and its contents, but as they go deeper beneath its surface, they will also meet some very strange creatures including the viperfish, the rattail fish, and the fangtooth fish. Astonishingly, the book indicates that 50 percent of the population of the Earth lives near the oceans' waters. That's a pretty intriguing fact, making any thoughts of global warming and the melting of polar ice even more frightening. As always with these books, the photographs are fascinating, and readers gobble up the facts while enjoying them.
The Magic School Bus books are my current favorite books for teaching my daughter about science. Miss Frizzle takes her class on an ocean adventure; together they explore different parts of the ocean--the surface, tide pools, coral reefs, and the ocean floor. My daughter (6) loved looking at the photographs and would often say, "That's a sea turtle." But as we got deeper in the ocean, I heard, "What's that?" The photos are bright and illustrations are bright and easily grab one's attention.
As always, the Magic School Bus is informative and exciting. In this early reader, we learn about ocean life and how the sea affects land life. There are descriptive text features and lovely photographs. Recommended for ages 6+
