This easy reading biography is written as if a humble Benjamin Franklin was having a conversation with the reader sharing the highlights of his legendary life.

From Scholastic’s When I Grow Up line, this series provides newly emergent readers with books that have longer sentences and more complex information in a style that is still easy to read. The color illustrations vary in type from original artwork by illustrator Gerald Kelley to historical photographs of things such as his newspapers, The Poor Richard’s Almanac and his “Join or Die” political cartoon. They aid in the decoding of the text and will appeal to the intended audience. Included features supplementing the text are a timeline of his life and a glossary of terms that take highlighted words from the text and define for the readers to better understand new vocabulary.

I would recommend this book for purchase to any school or public library.

When I grow Up: Benjamin Franklin is a 40-page book that gets first and second graders learning all about who Benjamin Franklin is and why he is famous. This book follows Ben Franklin chronologically from his birth to his death, while informing you about things like his inventions and what accomplishments he did during his lifetime, all told by Ben himself! There is also a neat timeline and glossary on the back pages. This book is fun and entertaining because of the new illustrations that mix with authentic historical documents of Ben Franklin and his inventions. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a quick alternative to heavy, back-breaking Social Studies textbooks with a new twist on learning about Benjamin Franklin from the man himself!

This is a good scholastic book for kids wanting to learn about the famous figure, Benjamin Franklin. It is written in an easy to read format, suitable for 2nd-4th grades in my opinion. It's nice because of the approach so kids are engaged and drawn into it, because a everyone has a dream for "when I grow up". The images also supported the text. This would be excellent for the classroom.

Yet another wonderful, easy-to-read biography. I have learned about Ben Franklin my entire life but I learned a lot from this little reader. It is pretty comprehensive and covers his history pretty well.
