This is a thought provoking book very relevant to today's economy where jobs are being lost to automation now, and in the future to artificial intelligence (think self-driving trucks), leading to more and more inequality. The author suggests that we take the Alaskan idea of paying dividends to all Alaskans from oil revenue and apply it nationally to significant resources including use of air, water and minerals.

While I’m not sure dividends of 2,000 to 5,000 are going to be quite enough o “save” the middle class, the ideas expressed here by Peter Barnes are exciting, innovative, and fascinating. I appreciated the frank, jargon-free text and well thought-out explanations.

I want to explore this concept further, and particularly want to know more about these third-party “agents” that would handle wealth management and dividend payment - something Barnes didn’t examine too closely.

First few chapters were genius, excellent critique of the current systemic problems with what Barnes calls extracted rent. The sources for the dividends make absolute sense too, yet I struggle to see how $5k a year will save the middle class...
