Fundamentally flawed and harebrained in its presentation, I found this modern iteration of the Star Wars Encyclopedia to be an overall failure. On one hand it’s shackled by the fact that no supplemental information can be found here in case a future project would contradict it, so the die hard fan will find little they don’t already know unless it’s from a series they don’t actively watch, and even then the complete stories aren’t told. For example, I read about Omega from The Bad Batch (a show I enjoy) and the most critical information about her is skipped entirely.

On the other hand the method of presenting entries in chronological order absolutely baffles me. For new fans who may have not watched EVERYTHING you find entires for characters with their complete life stories located at their earliest canon appearance. So you get Darth Vader’s entry approximately on the same page as the Mos Espa Podracers. My 6 year old doesn’t fully understand that Vader is Luke’s father, so I didn’t encourage him to read that section. It only makes sense to read it once you’ve watched every major show and by that time you will know more than this encyclopedia offers. It doesn’t even follow its own logic, placing characters and locations sometimes out of timeline order, or skipping them entirely. For instance Moraband, the homeworld of the Sith, is not here to be seen.

Put simply, if I am researching articles on Wookieepedia to find out what this book does not tell me, then what benefit is it?

No need to read this book cover to cover. The thing is massive with a ton of characters, vehicles, and so much more. It's action packed. I would read the characters that spark interest to you.

A massive book that any Star Wars fan would love. It doesn’t contain anything from the newest shows, The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, but everything else I can think of is in there. Lots of fun!
