Rate this book
The legacy continues…

It’s a gritty new world.

Three decades after the events of REAPER, the world is a different place. The secret is out. The existence of demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels has been revealed, and humans are struggling to adapt. Out of the chaos, The Aegis has risen to global power on the promise of containing or exterminating all underworlders, even if that means ushering in the End of Days.

Standing in their way is the next generation of warriors, the children of demons and angels and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

See how they become legends in their own right.

Legacy of Chaos

Stryke, son of Shade and Runa, grew up a happy, well-adjusted incubus alongside his four brothers. A supergenius, he took an interest in science and technology at an early age, with a dream of joining NASA…until a moment of carelessness resulted in the death of his little brother. Unable to forgive himself and desperate to prevent a similar tragedy from happening to others, he started up his own anti-demon tech company and sequestered himself behind its walls. Now he’s a household name and one of the wealthiest people on the planet.

Cyan, a technomancer who works as a cybersecurity expert for DART, lost her best friend to a weapon designed by Stryke’s company. She’s hurt, angry, and wants revenge. So when an opportunity to work with Stryke on a project arises, she jumps at the chance to help DART and make Stryke’s life miserable.

At first, Cyan and Stryke butt heads about everything. But she soon finds that deep down, he’s desperately wounded and willing to sacrifice everything, including his family, to achieve his goals. Can she help him heal before he destroys himself—and everyone around him?

4.5 Stars

This was much better than the 1st book.
I really enjoyed it and loved both mc's.
Adventure, suspense and just the right amount of steamy sex.

The epilogues could have been better. We're being spoon fed what's happening with the angels. And I didn't like the jump in time about Chasm/Chaos.

I'm looking forward to the next book but it doesn't come out till October.

Legacy of Chaos is everything I hoped for and more. The second book in Larissa Ione’s Demonica Birthright series dives into a world where demons, vampires, and angels are out in the open, creating a gritty, chaotic setting perfect for action, romance, and drama.

Stryke and Cyan are great leads. He’s a guilt-ridden tech genius, and she’s a fiery technomancer with a grudge, which makes for an intense enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Their chemistry is engaging, and I enjoyed seeing their growth over the course of the story. The character development is solid, and the side characters—along with the reunion with familiar faces from the Demonica series—add even more depth.

There wasn’t a single boring moment—every scene felt perfectly balanced between romance, action, and paranormal intrigue. The pacing was spot-on, and the writing flowed so smoothly I didn’t want to stop reading. This book reminded me why paranormal romance has always been one of my favorite subgenres, blending supernatural elements with strong characters and just the right amount of heat.

Honestly, this was one of my favorite books of the year, and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next. If you’re into exciting stories, great characters, and a steamy romance, this one is a must-read! Highly recommend!

5 MASSIVE STARS!

OMG, what an amazing read! I am obsessed with this series and I love this world, and this book is everything that I was hoping it would be – exciting, unexpected, action-packed, funny, intense, sexy and romantic with fantastic character development and heartwrenching emotion, I fell so in love with these characters and their story, and I devoured this one!

This is the second book in the Demonica Birthright series, a second-gen spin-off from the original Demonica and Lords of Deliverance series. You may find yourself a little lost if you haven’t read those original books because there are a lot of characters and relationships to understand, but you don’t need to read the first book in this series to understand this one.

Stryke is the son of Shade and Runa from Desire Unchained, (Demonica, #2). He is one of their triplets, a seminus demon like his father, and after a devastating family tragedy which he holds himself responsible for, he has estranged himself from his family. Instead, he has dedicated his life to science and research and has become the richest man/demon on the planet, building an empire of bad-demon-destroying tech. And though he has a reputation as a cruel and heartless bastard, he’s actually just trying to make the world a better place. He is also drowning in guilt and shame at his past, he’s struggling with crippling PTSD, and he does everything he can to avoid interaction with others, or having a spare minute to think. After being shocked and a little unsure of him in the first book, I instantly loved him in this one, and felt so much for him.

Cyan is a technomancer demon working with the Demon Activity Response Team. As a complete tech nerd she idolised Stryke for his well-known achievements, until a weapon he designed was responsible for the deaths of her parents and her best friend. Now, her boss wants her to work with him on a joint project, and though she wants nothing to do with him, she figures the experience will be invaluable, and she can at least use the opportunity to make his life miserable.

There’s a fantastic enemies-to-lovers vibe happening here. Stryke and Cyan are antagonistic towards each other, but there’s a definite attraction, and the chemistry is electric! When their unique skills are needed to avoid a potentially world-ending catastrophe, they’re forced together in the most intense of circumstances, and working so closely, Cyan starts to see a whole new side of Stryke. And when he starts to open up to her, she begins to understand him, and everything starts to change.

Oh my God, I love this relationship! Stryke is complex, with a lot going on, but Cyan is a strong and stubborn female. She’s determined to get through to him, to help him deal with his issues, face up to his past, and move past his trauma, and she throws herself whole-heartedly into helping him heal. And quite unexpectedly, she finds in him the strength to deal with her own past. It’s sweet, sexy and heartfelt, and I loved going on the journey with them both.

“Guilt is an emotion designed to teach you a lesson. Not destroy you. Guilt will make you suffer, as intended, but once you learn your lesson, make amends, forgive yourself, and become a better person. Live a good life and never forget what it taught you.”

At the same time, we get to see Stryke’s complicated relationship with his family. God, I love seeing the original characters again! There are some tricky dynamics here, and I hurt so much for Stryke, but I loved seeing them interact, and go on their own journey together. There’s some time spent with some more of the younger generation – particularly Blade, Mace and Scotland (WTF is going on there?), and some other characters from the series are continuing to play a big role, and holy sh*t there are some big things going on in the background! I have so many theories, and I am so excited to see where the series goes from here.

This is a phenomenal read, and is everything I love about this series. It’s a fave or 2024.

5 stars!

First impressions:

Omfg what a banger of a book!🤯 sooo much has happened I'm still reeling.

Nothing makes me happier than a book that has romance but a killer plot too.

It makes Legacy of Temptation feel like a walk in the park. I've always been amazed by Larissa's capacity to weave sooo many plot threads into each story but with this one went above abd beyond. All the tech speak? The upheavel in the world?? The angst these characters had? The missions? The undeniable connection?

Chef's kiss. All of it.

Side note, this is also easier to read if you are not familiar with the OG series. It doesn't have as much info/history dump as the first book (which, let's be honest, first books in longer series always have).

It's more focused on the current events, the main couple, the mystery and tension of feeling that the other shoe is about to drop soon.

ARC received for my honest opinion, thank you Blue Press and Larissa

______
Edited to add:

I'll admit I've been sitting here staring into space, not knowing where to start lol. This is the most insanely good and complex books I have read in a while. So much is happening from the first chapter, the characters are amazing, the plot is intense, the angst is angsting, the spice is spicing and the world ending things are exploding. Phew, the suspense! The tension! The emotion! I don't remember the last time I was so invested in a fantasy/paranormal read.

So what to expect:

Book 2 in the Demonica Birthright series
Paranormal Romance
Complex world and plot
High stakes
Enemies to lovers
Forced proximity
Family drama/Found family
Action and suspense
Big cast of characters and secondary plots/POVs here and there
Life or death missions
Tortured genius hero
Witty badass heroine
She "zaps" hero's brother for hitting him🤭
They save the world and each other in the process

Stryke is the perfect tortured alpha hero. The fantasy version of Christian Harper, if you will. A workaholic tech genius demon, smart, rich, on top of all the innovation and development in this new world where humans, demons, angels and supernaturals try to co-exist and fight evil. But he is also reserved, a bit of an as***, estranged from his family and on a self destructive path after the events that make him feel guilty for their tragedy. He pours all his focus into work and ignores everyone who try to come close.

Enters Cyan who is badass in her own right. Smart, sassy, with her own battle scars, she will stand up to him, banter, listen, care and make him come back from that darkness. The way they went from enemies to working together to allies to friends to lovers is very well developped and emotional. When they both put their brains together... whoa. They completed each other so well and their chemistry was so intense from the get go. There is spice and feels yes but there is also the banter and dry humor we know to expect from Larissa's characters.

They have all that "it's you or no one" thing going on.

I also loved seeing more of the second gen and older characters too, I can't wait to see what happens next!!

Legacy of Chaos is book 2 in the Demonica Birthright series, and it was excellent from beginning to end. Stryke was an amazing character. He was cold and closed off but that was mainly due to him blaming himself for the death of his little brother. He is also brilliant and a little different from others. That prologue was heartbreaking to read, and the pain made me want to cry. Cyan was also a fantastic character. She is still mourning the death of her best friend and her friend's fiancée from a weapon developed by Stryke. So, when she is tasked with going to work for Stryke on a project, she isn't exactly happy. I absolutely loved Stryke and Cyan together. They were a perfect match and while their HEA was a hard road I was thrilled in the end. I can't even contain my excitement for more information on Reaver and Harvester, Gabriel and Lillith. Now, although I'm super excited for the next book I am very nervous. I don't like love triangles, and I can't imagine sharing between cousins. I just have to have faith in the author that has never disappointed me. Overall, this was a great addition and like I said in my last review I feel reading the original series will definitely enhance your enjoyment of this series.

Legacy of Chaos is the second book of the Demonica Birthright series, but it can be read as a standalone.
The protagonist of this book are Stryke and Cyan.

Stryke is a genius with an interest in science and technology who, after a tragic event that resulted in the death of his little brother,
closed himself and started up his own anti-demon tech company.
Cyan is a technomancer who lost her best friend to a weapon designed by Stryke’s company. She is hurt and wants revenge. When the opportunity to work with Stryke presents itself to her, she jumps at it.

At first, Cyan and Stryke clash over everything. But she soon discovers he is desperately hurt and willing to sacrifice everything to achieve his goals. Will she help him before he destroys himself?
I loved the story of Stryke and Cyan. It is so intense and deep. Stryke is a troubled protagonist who has taken refuge in his work by pushing everyone away. I felt so bad for him and all the guilt he carries inside, and I am so glad that Cyan was able to break through his armor.

I love it when the fantasy world is integrated with our "real" world and especially when everything is perfectly explained and well delineated. This is the world building we find in this book. Absolutely perfection.

The author has an engaging writing style, that makes the reader wants to keep reading.

I really recommend this book!

Thanks to the author, 1001DarkNights and BlueBoxPress for the eARC. All thoughts are my own.

Legacy of Chaos is book two in the spin off series Demonica Birthright which is about the children of angels, demons and the four horsemen that was featured in the Demonica original series.
This is an awesome forced proximity, enemies to lovers who must save the world together. When the demons are the good guys. Stryke is a tortured genius billionaire with a tragic background whereas our heroine Cyan is an angry technomancer. Both Cyan and Stryke must learn how to accept the past and how to continue past the loss of family and friends.
There is a great mix of romance, action and saving the world drama to keep you flipping the pages. I can’t wait to see what book three brings.

Slightly better written compared to its first book, Legacy of Temptation, Larissa Ione back again to Demonica World and feature the OG's children's stories while navigating their romantic problems and also saving the world from demon and angel alike. The nostalgia factor already paid off with book 1 and this book continue from what left in book 1. Both MCs, Stryke and Cyan already introduced in book 1, with Stryke is Shade and Runa's triplet while Cyan is a technomancer who also member of DART, the organization under Kynan Morgan's leadership. They don't cross path since while Stryker is part of the Seminus brother families, he was also estranged from them because he believe he was responsible for his little brother, Chaos's death. But, fate is fickle and when one of Stryker's creation kill Cyan's close friend, that put Cyan into grief and she hate Stryker for that.

I think when I read their first introductions, I predict Legacy of Chaos will be full angst and hate. But, actually, the angst were bearable and the focus of this book is more to Stryke's journey in forgive himself and amend his relationship with his estranged family. Stryke is part of Shade and Runa's triplet, but because of his guilt he sever the bond with his other triplets, Blade and Rade, resulting in ongoing feud between brothers especially from Blade. Chaos's death also make Stryke hate sex and it's that not an irony, because Stryke is an incubus, basically sex demon that need sex to survive. I feel like this book mainly focus to Stryke with his intelligent mind, tight on control and always feel like because he is in so much pain, it justified for him to act as an asshole to everyone while also torture himself. This part is hard to read because of how much self-loathing that Stryke have before he finally met Cyan and learn to let go of his past.

Yep, the story pretty much oldies but goldies paranormal romance that I know and familiar of. While Ione give so many focus into Stryke's personal development, sadly it was not the same with Cyan. I feel like Cyan maybe forgive Stryke too easily despite her resentment toward him because of his role in killing Cyan's friend although not directly. The insta-lust is pretty apparent, however I prefer Stryke and Cyan's romantic endeavor compared to Logan and Eva from book 1. Imho, Logan was a little bland and Eva was like Tayla only Tayla way way better. Stryke already complex from the beginning and I think Cyan is well written compared to Eva. Sure she heal Stryke with the power of love and sex (lel), but I like her approach to Stryke regarding his hate of sex and to process his long unprocessed trauma. The scene when Cyan seduce Stryke is superb, like I always know Ione can always write scorching hot sex scenes but also tender in the same time. Since Stryke is also Seminus, the scene just become hotter than ever, lol.

The story kinda moving forward but albeit in rather mid pace. Gabriel, one of the Archangels, now have major role and he face a trial because of his role in aiding Azagoth to destroy Sheoul-gra. Pooe Gabriel, in the end his fate is uncertain and the epilogue just give a major cliffhanger for Gabriel's future. I like Gabriel because from all angels (bar Reaver), he is not a goody two legged angel with jerk personality, although he has his own agenda. The book is action packed, but I think the climax and high stake happen in the middle of the book when Stryke and Cyan try to destroy the demon portal in the middle of the ocean while battling oceanic demons. The end kinda feel mid to low stake, focused more into Stryke and Cyan's blossoming romance, Stryke's path into healing and Cyan's acceptance to her grief after losing a dear friend.

The next book, Legacy of Desire, will released a year later (!) and will feature not only two MCs but three!! This, I believe is the first time Larissa Ione write menage (or threesome) into Demonica world and make them as main characters. Scotty (Ares's daughter), Mace (Lore's son, but his biological father is Wraith) and Blade will be tested for their friendship's resolve and if it's possible for Scotty to love both men in the same time (I guess she will. Like, why choose?). The Heaven is still high in conspiracy while the demon and supernatural beings still roaming the Earth. But honestly? I'm curious about Gabriel's predicament after reading the epilogue! Sigh, I think Ione maybe save him for the last and if he will be paired with Raika, Azagoth's daughter? That will be hilarious or amusing because imagine if Azagoth will become Gabriel's father in law, lol.

A good addition into Demonica World, I enjoy Legacy of Chaos despite some of its weakness. I always know when its come to paranormal romance with actions, complex and interesting ensemble of characters, intriguing conspiracy between Heaven and Hell and also scorching (and innovative also didn't boring at all) hot sex scenes, I always can rely on Larissa Ione's Demonica world.

We are brought back to the Demonica World. In this book, we learn about Stryke. Stryke has always blamed himself for his brother’s death. Even if it rips his family apart he still feels as if they are better off without him. He has alienated himself by creating a technological company to keep the ones he loves safe.

Cyan has been working at DART in their labs. She is the best at what she does and anyone would be lucky to have her on their team. She hates Stryke and Stry-Tech because of deaths of the ones close to her. Now she is working hand in hand with the man who created these weapons. She needs to fight the urge to fall in love with him.

Throw in an Arch Angel fighting for his life and trying to save the end of days and I’m all in.

I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. Each book in the series gets better and better. I can’t wait for the next one. I was loved this book.

Thank you to Get Red PR for allowing me to receive an ARC copy of Legacy of Chaos! After reading Legacy of Temptation, I was eager to jump into this book!

4.5 stars. So much action through the entire story. The romance is perfect. I love a grumpy man and Stryke is just that! He is everything I could want in a book boyfriend.
There is so much suspense in this story. And the way everything comes together in the end is perfect. I loved Cyan as well!

In this intense and emotionally charged installment of Larissa Ione’s next Gen Demonica series, the spotlight shifts to Stryke—son of Runa and Shade (familiar faces from Desire Unchained)—and it’s safe to say, *the kids are definitely not all right*. Stryke, more than any of them, bears the heavy scars of loss and trauma, and it shows.

Haunted by the death of his younger brother, Stryke is a brooding, brilliant, and broken man. He’s become a wealthy inventor, but his greatest weapon is also his curse—his incubus nature demands intimacy he’s too emotionally shattered to seek. His solution? A serum that suppresses his urges... and is slowly killing him.

Enter a cyber-demon technomancer, recruited to help him finish a high-tech weapon that could change everything. She’s a genius in her own right and working with Stryke is a nightmare—his weapons were responsible for the death of her best friend and her parents. Old wounds, simmering resentment, and unresolved feelings bubble beneath the surface as they're forced into a high-stakes collaboration.

When a dangerous breach at one of Stryke’s oil rigs throws them into close quarters and mortal peril, the walls between them begin to crumble- just as the walls between this realm and the hell realm begin to fall too.

What follows is a riveting blend of heat, heartache, and raw vulnerability. Ione masterfully peels back Stryke’s layers to reveal a man consumed by guilt, driven by duty, and desperate for redemption. But can love and forgiveness mend what’s so deeply broken?

A dark, sexy, and emotionally resonant read, this book is a standout in the series thus far—perfect for fans who crave angst, action, and a hero worth saving.

Legacy of Chaos continues the Demonica Birthright series featuring the next generation. Stryke is a seminus demon or an incubus. He’s also a billionaire tech genius who, guilt-stricken after the death of his younger brother to a demon attack when he was distracted, cut himself off from his family and devoted his life to creating tech and weapons to protect the world. When DART, the Demon Activity Response Team which is a mix of human and demon agents commission him to build a weapon they insist one of their own, Cyanide, a technomancer who works as a cybersecurity expert be part of the team. Cyan had once hero worshipped Stryke but when one of his weapons resulted in the death of her friends that quickly turned to hate but as she gets to know and sees him at his most vulnerable, the pain and PTSD he lives with, begins to see him in a new light.

This was a fantastic paranormal romantic suspense, not a genre I'm a huge fan of as a rule but with a plot full of twists and turns and an enemies to lovers’ trope I was absorbed from the opening pages. The world building so far for this series has been first class and the characters complex. The overall story was fast paced and action packed, full of danger, intrigue, and suspense with the bulk of the action based on the atmospheric setting of an oil rig surrounded by a mysterious fog filled with demonic sea monsters with no way of attracting outside help building the tension before reaching a gripping conclusion. Stryke and Cyan had to put their differences behind them and work together against the clock if they were to save the world from annihilation. And after that ending I can't wait for the next book.

I am a very forgetful person, and unless I read the previous book immediately before, I forget 90% of the plot. That said, I don’t really recall what happened in the first book, but I don’t feel like that impeded my understanding and enjoyment of this one at all. It felt interconnected standalone as elements of the world started falling back into place the more I read.
I really enjoyed the building of Stryke and Cyan’s relationship. It was angsty at first, and kind of grumpy sunshine, though really he was just a grump and she was not as grumpy lol Stryke is this genius who is just not really living after the death of his brother. The guilt has formed a PTSD for him, and the very thing he needs to live, he is traumatized by. I liked how Cyan tried to rewire his brain with positive reinforcement and new associations. I also loved that she was so smart! She didn’t need him. She just wanted him (once she realized that he’s not really mean, he’s just hurting).
The title of the book plays a big part, especially towards the third act, and I didn’t see it coming but I thought it was sweet. This book is a healing, second chance (individually, not for them) relationship with a side of monster slaying and just being total badass geniuses.

Thank you Get Red PR for the copy for review!

I love the world this series has. The fact that the author goes out of their way to point out that every species has good and bad in it really pulled me into the story.

After reading the first book, I was so excited to find out that book two was about Stryke because he was the side character I was intrigued by the most. I just knew the back story and trauma was going to hit like a train. And boy was I right. Not only does the author take us on a journey with the plot but she also portrays trauma, death of a family member, suicidal thoughts, and depression so well that I couldn’t help but feel the deep emotion with every character.

The way Cyan helps Stryke through his trauma by helping him find an escape and being there when he needed was so refreshing because sometimes toxic relationships can get tiring in books. She was always there to be his other half and I will forever love this couple.

If you’re looking for a spicy book with a plot, demons, angels, mystery, and plot twists that turn your head around then read this series!! Now if book three could come out right now, that’d be amazing.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, Legacy of Temptation, but this book…this book I absolutely LOVED! It was everything I could have wanted and more.

I’m completely in love with Stryke and Cyan as the main characters and as a couple. These two were absolutely perfect for each other. One of my favorite dynamics is the asshole MMC and the FMC who is one of the sole people in his life that will stand up to him, and that’s just what we get in this book. Cyan has no problem going toe to toe with Stryke and I loved their interactions with each other.

The story itself was amazing and kept me completely engrossed in the book from beginning to end. It was fast paced and packed full of action, danger, intrigue, and spice. I’m loving this series so much and I can’t wait for the next book.

Patiently Waiting Next Installment

I absolutely can't believe I have to wait until October 2025 before I get another installment. I'm as interested and invested in the kids as I was with the parents. I'm really hoping we will find out if Reaver comes to and escapes in the next book. Who am I kidding....I need to see Reaver escape. Hopefully, Gabriel is able to get his wings back & escape Lilith....and I pray there is something that explains where Harvester is, and hopefully, she's not actually dead.

I have to say this was another great novel from Larissa. I love that the cover of each book in the series has a hidden word implemented into the design…do you see it? well, I just couldn’t wait to see how that word came into play in the story. Per usual, there were no disappointments here, Ione’s writing is witty, and she always delivers a story that includes an emotional journey thats impactful to the characters growth. I also love settings in which preternatural being’s occupy space in the modern world to create a new reality, so this was an adventure. I simply loved the characters and their journies.

I loved this book. I received this book as an ARC read and had never read any of Ione’s work before. I bought the first book so that I could read this one, and could literally not put either one down!

I loved the story and character development of Stryke & Cyan. The message of forgiveness and the strong themes about self-loathing and self-sabotage really spoke to me and they were written so well. I already find myself waiting for next one in the Demonica Birthright series and will now be running to read the previous books in this world!

“What do I need?” His throaty voice vibrated through her, making her hormones dance. “I need to f*ck you, Cyan. And, gods help me, I don’t just need it. I want it.”

OH
MY
GOD!

How am I going to survive the wait for the next book? I have no idea what to do with myself right now.

Now if you've read Legacy of Temptation, then you already know Stryker. And if you haven't, then definitely read that first. While the story features different couples, the story arc continues, and it just wouldn't hit the same if you start with this book. Trust me.

I have been desperately awaiting the story of Styker. As a secondary character in the first book, he came across as a cold genius businessman. But when you got the sneak peek into his story, you realized that he can also add tortured to his repertoire. Stryke also happens to be the son of one of my favorite Demonica couples, Shade and Runa from Desire Unchained. After the violent loss of his baby brother, Styker hasn't been the same. He pulled away from his family and especially from his Seminus demon ways. It's been years and he still blames himself for the loss and punishes himself in a multitude of ways. My heart broke for this tortured man so hard.

After the tragic and violent loss of her best friend to a weapon made by Stryke's company, Cyan is not exactly his fan. But when she gets assigned to work at his company for a shared mission, things start to shift. She begins to see the tortured soul beneath the demon.

Now if you've read the Demonica series, then you'll really appreciate the story arc of this spinoff. There are so many favorites that are featured in this book, including Gabriel and Azagoth. And man oh man, am I desperate for Gabriel's story. But knowing Larissa, she'll tease us with him until the end. There is so much that is happening with this book and all of it had me absolutely glued to the pages; the opening of hell that is quickly letting in dangerous demons, the mystery of Harvester, and through it all the emotional romance between Stryke and Cyan.

I love the strong and kickass heroines that Ione writes and Cyan is no exception. I love the way that she fights with Stryke as much as fights for him. And I absolutely loved their romance and the full circle it brought things. I did hope to see Stryke get to really bridge his relationship with his brother Blade, but we may have to wait until Blade's book for that I'm thinking.

In any case, this was a high octane, action packed, steamy romantasy in a world that I am completely enraptured with and never want to leave. I cannot recommend it enough.

And if you haven't read Ione's Demonica series yet, this is definitely your sign to do so immediately.

“You’ve given me a reason to live that isn’t about guilt and hate…”

Legacy of Chaos is the second novel in the adult paranormal romance series Demonica Birthright, which is a spin-off of the original Demonica series. Taking place 30 years after the events of the Demonica series, each novel is an interconnected standalone following a separate couple but with an overarching story. You do not need to read the Demonica series but you should read the first book of this series. It is a multi-POV and third person POV.

The story focuses on Stryke and Cyan. Stryke is an incubus and supergenius who has built himself an empire on anti-demon technology. Having distanced himself years ago from his family after the loss of one of his brothers, Stryke struggles to remain attached to anyone...until Cyan. When DART contracts Stryke and his company to create a new piece of technology for them they enforce a clause to have one of their own people involved and so technomancer Cyan is sent on their behalf. But, see, Cyan has a bit of a problem with Stryke and his tech so she decides her goal is to make him suffer. That is, before they start to realize there is more in common between them. They both have a chance of healing together if they give in...but with a portal to hell being dropped into the thick of things they must decide will they be able to let things go or will the past consume them both?

I love this book. Larissa knows exactly what I want and need and delivers each time.

Stryke is our beloved tortured hero. An incubus with intimacy struggles who uses arrogance as a mask is just what I needed! The trauma of his past has had such a significant impact on him and it is evident in everything he does. Cyan offers him this new perspective away from the bias of his family and it was one he desperately needed. When he falls for her he falls FAST and I was there for it the entire time.

Cyan is the perfect compliment to Stryke. She is initially antagonistic but her willingness to listen and observe means she catches on pretty quickly there is more at play than Stryke's seemingly asshole behaviour. I liked how this was a bit of a healing moment for her as well.

There is an excellent cast of side characters, as always, from the cast from the previous book making an appearance to old characters of Demonica like Runa and Shade showing up. I also really enjoyed the additional POV that gave us some perspective of the bigger plot that is coming. Also Masumi deserves an award for all she puts up with.

In terms of spice I would place this at 3 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. This is a medium burn in terms of full spice but we are doing it with incubi and succubi, which have fun perks to their spice. Spice is used as part of survival and healing in this book which made it meaningful and oh so much fun. The spice is detailed and explicit and it feels in line with the characters as they fall in love. I loved it.

“She was perfect, a goddess he could worship all night long…”

The story itself mainly starts with one goal is creating a new product for DART and Stryke and Cyan having to work together but it does take a pretty big shift when a portal to hell becomes a problem. There is also another plot happening with an additional character that blends well with the main one as well as opens up the world for something so much bigger. This book holds nothing back so expect action, violence, and chaos...but also still be read for sweet intimacy and a cute date or two. I felt the pacing was well done and I could not put this book down once I started. The ending offers a clue for the next book while also closing a beautiful chapter on Cyan and Stryke's story in the best of ways...though I want slices of life with them!

As always, Larissa is MVP and her books are absolutely wonderful. I want to go back and reread Stryke's parents' story as a result.

Thank you Blue Box Press for this arc!

4.5⭐ I can't get enough of Larissa Ione! I am not typically a big fan of paranormal stories, and I've tried more than a handful of authors over the years. But ever since I read the Lords of Deliverance series, I find myself waiting for her next story.

She packs so much into every book that you really feel like you've lived every moment with these characters. In this book, you will find a lot of angst, some suspense, a return to a loving family, and a bit of spice. I love, love, love the end of the story! It makes the title so perfect! Chef's kiss!

Stryke's story is heartbreaking. And years later, he is still blaming himself for his little brother's death. Cyan thinks he's a class A jerk. Until she has to work with him and finds out about his dark past and what he's done since then to try to make up for his actions. Danger looms and then they have to team up to fight evil. Help comes in the form of the Archangel Gabriel.

And even though this story was mainly about Stryke and Cyan, Gabriel is an overwhelming secondary character right from the start and I have a feeling his future is going to play an important role in the final fight, the Apocalypse.

Man! I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book!

I listened to the audiobook of this story, narrated by Alex Knox. I'm not familiar with him, but I thought he did a great job of portraying all of the characters, and there were a LOT!

I was so engrossed with the story that I failed to bookmark any passages. I don't know if it was due to the story or the narration... probably a bit of both. I'm usually on top of getting quotes for my reviews, but I just didn't want anything to interrupt me when I was listening!

Thank you Larissa Ione and NetGalley for this ALC. The above is my own and personal opinion.I can't get enough of Larissa Ione! Series: Demonica Birthright #2
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!

It’s been 30 years since the events of Reaper and the world has changed a lot. Humans know about demons now and all the original couple’s children have grown up. Stryke, son of Shade and Runa (Desire Unchained), is a supergenius who has created countless high tech pieces to identify and stop demons. His drive to create these pieces is due to a tragedy that happened in his early 20s that led to the death of his younger brother. When a DART technomancer starts working on a project at his company, Stryke finds himself struggling to keep her at a distance, especially while they are dealing with demonic attacks.

As someone who has been reading this series for 15-ish years, I love that there is now this spin-off series with the original couple's children. I love returning to this world because it feels like coming home, but also brand new because so much has changed since that original series.

Stryke is the outcast of the family because he has pushed everyone away. He doesn’t have a great relationship with anyone in his family anymore because he believes they all blame him for his brother's death. Stryke is dealing with a lot of guilt, grief, PTSD, and fear of letting anyone close again. His story was very emotional because we see him trying to hide his trauma by pushing everyone away, but Cyan is not letting that happen with her. She sees him and makes him confront his traumas and work through his issues with his family, his guilt, and with sex. After meeting Stryke in the previous book, I wasn’t expecting to like him but this book quickly changed my mind.

Cyan is a technomancer who can control technology and code. She is struggling to deal with the loss of her best friend and her fiance that happened at the hands of a StryTech weapon. She goes into working with Stryke angry and hateful, but that changes as she gets to know more about him and his struggles. I love that she got him to work through his issues by relating it to learning and his need for knowledge. It was a unique way to get through to someone but it really worked. Also I just loved how accepting Cyan was of Stryke and his idiosyncrasies. She really just understood him and his quirks and didn’t try to change them really.

These two had a very emotional and intense relationship. I really enjoyed the pacing and progression of their relationship, especially with everything else that was happening in this book. This just ended up being a really great relationship about overcoming trauma, rebuilding relationships, and finding love.

While the relationship was wonderful, this book also had so much going on with the worldbuilding. Heaven is still all messed up and it just keeps getting worse. I was not expecting the Gabriel situation to end that way and I am very interested in seeing what happens to him next. This one also deals with a portal into Hell that is unleashing demons onto Earth and it involves a lot of unique creatures that are new to this series. Basically, a lot happened outside of the relationship that kept me hooked to the story and I really can’t wait to see how all these different events will play out in this series.

Overall, this was another fantastic book. I can’t wait for the next one, especially since there were so many big reveals right at the end of this book. I need to know what is going to happen next with everyone and who will fall in love!

TW: death of a sibling (a child); guilt and grief; death of friends; PTSD; claustrophobia; suicidal thoughts and actions discussed; miscarriage discussed;

Book Review: Legacy of Chaos

In "Legacy of Chaos," the gripping sequel to "Reaper," the world is thrust into a new era of turmoil as the existence of supernatural beings is laid bare. Set three decades after the tumultuous events of its predecessor, the novel paints a vivid and gritty landscape where demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels coexist uneasily with humans. The Aegis, a formidable organization, rises to power with a mission that teeters on the edge of fanaticism: to eliminate all underworlders, even at the cost of humanity's very existence.

At the heart of the story are Stryke, the son of Shade and Runa, and Cyan, a fierce technomancer with a vendetta. Stryke's journey is one of profound personal tragedy and redemption; he is a complex character, burdened by guilt from a past mistake that cost him his brother’s life. His transformation from a hopeful young man with dreams of space exploration to a reclusive tech mogul running an anti-demon company is both heartbreaking and relatable. The narrative does an excellent job of exploring the weight of responsibility that Stryke carries, making readers empathize with his struggles while questioning the moral implications of his choices.

Cyan serves as a foil to Stryke, embodying the rage and desire for vengeance that often follows personal loss. Her initial animosity towards Stryke is palpable and adds a layer of tension to their interactions. As their paths converge through a shared project, the dynamic between them evolves, revealing deeper layers of both characters. The clash of ideologies—Stryke’s desperate need to protect and Cyan’s quest for revenge—creates a compelling push-and-pull that drives the narrative forward.

The world-building in "Legacy of Chaos" is richly detailed, immersing readers in a post-revelation society grappling with fear and uncertainty. The author deftly weaves elements of fantasy and technology, creating a backdrop that feels both familiar and hauntingly new. The stakes are high, and the threat of the Aegis looms large, adding urgency to the characters' personal journeys.

The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, mixing action-packed sequences with quieter, introspective moments that allow readers to connect with Stryke and Cyan on a deeper level. Themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the quest for understanding are thoughtfully explored, making the narrative resonate on multiple levels.

"Legacy of Chaos" is not just a tale of battles fought between supernatural beings and humans; it’s a story about the struggles within ourselves, the legacies we inherit, and the choices we make that define us. As Stryke and Cyan navigate their tumultuous relationship against a backdrop of impending doom, readers are left questioning whether healing is possible in a world so fractured by fear and conflict.

In conclusion, this sequel is a compelling continuation of the saga that fans of the series will relish. With its engaging characters, intricate world-building, and thought-provoking themes, "Legacy of Chaos" promises to captivate both new readers and long-time fans alike, setting the stage for what is sure to be an unforgettable journey into the heart of chaos.

Thank you to GetRed PR and the Author for the ARC of Legacy of Chaos, in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, what an amazing book! Legacy of Chaos is the second book in the Demonica Birthright series, and I can't wait for the third one to come out!
This book will keep you hooked from beginning to end. It continues the amazing saga with a perfect balance of action, romance, and deep character development.
The story follows Stryke, a charming incubus who has always been fascinated by science and technology. He dreams of joining NASA and making a difference in the world. However, a tragic mistake leads to the death of his beloved little brother, and Stryke is consumed by guilt and self-blame.
Determined to prevent any future tragedies, Stryke channels his pain into creating an innovative tech company that specializes in anti-demon technology. With his intelligence and determination, he becomes not only incredibly wealthy but also a public figure admired by many.

On the other hand, we have Cyan, a talented technomancer and a cybersecurity expert working for DART. She has recently experienced heartbreak and anger after losing her best friend to a weapon created by Stryke's company. Fueled by revenge, Cyan seizes the opportunity to collaborate with Stryke on a project, intending to make his life miserable.

From the moment they meet, Cyan and Stryke clash on almost everything. Their conflicting personalities and pasts create a tension-filled atmosphere. However, as they spend more time together, Cyan begins to see the true depth of Stryke's pain and his willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals, even if it means sacrificing his happiness and the well-being of his family.

As they go deeper into their shared project, Cyan finds herself questioning her initial motives. Is revenge truly the answer, or could she be the key to helping Stryke find healing and redemption? The complexities of their relationship and the emotional journey they embark on make for a truly compelling read.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, Larissa Ione throws in an unexpected twist, leaving you on the edge of your seat. The story concludes with a tantalizing cliffhanger that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. The only downside is the wait of almost a whole year!

If you enjoy stories that blend thrilling action, intense romance, and characters who are forced to confront their inner demons, "Legacy of Chaos" is the perfect choice for you. Larissa Ione's amazing storytelling and her ability to create rich, complex characters will leave you craving for more.

Stryke is the super-genius son of Shade and Runa, a Seminus demon and a warg. A tragedy causes him to alienate himself from his family and to start an anti-demon tech company. He reluctantly allows a DART agent to work with him to create a specialized weapon for their agency. The woman is not afraid to show her open dislike of him. Can Stryke forgive himself for his part in his brother’s death? Or is there more at play than he is aware of?
Cyan is the senior technomancer for DART. She blames Stryke and his company for the deaths of her best friend and her parents. When a chance to work with him arises, Cyan agrees only to make trouble for the incubus. However, she begins to see the guilt-ridden man hidden beneath his aloof and arrogant exterior. Can Cyan help Stryke overcome his trauma? And will helping him help her come to terms with her own grief?
It is no secret that I have a softness for the wounded/tortured hero types. So Stryke checked all my boxes and then some. My heart hurt over all the pain and guilt he carried over the years, alone (by his own design). I wish his family had understood Stryker’s reasons for alienating himself from them sooner. But, I also understand why they did not. They too were dealing with their own grief in their own ways.
Cyan is no stranger to grief. I believe that is how she was able to see the guilt-wracked person beneath the veneer. I like how Cyan wanted to help Stryker move past his trauma and guilt, once she understood him. And in doing so, she remembered fond memories of family and friend.
LEGACY OF CHAOS is the second book in Larissa Ione’s paranormal romance series, DEMONICA BIRTHRIGHT. It is a continuation, of sorts, of the author’s DEMONICA and LORDS OF DELIVERANCE books… but with the next generation. I suggest new readers begin there before jumping into this series (for many reasons). A lot of the world - its current situation, Seminus demon, etc - are explained in those books. Plus, they rock!
I have been a long-time fan of Larissa Ione’s books. So, when I got the email that I was chosen to review this book, I squeed in happiness. I practically devoured it, forgoing sleep and other things (Larissa’s books do that to me). It is also great to see old favorites return but playing supporting roles. I love seeing what kind of parents they became! Now I must wait until late next year (2025) for the next installment. THAT is going to be rough!

Legacy of Chaos is a powerful and dynamic read with full throttle action, grief-inducing trauma, unbridled passion, and a shitstorm of apocalyptic proportions!

Stryke is SUCH an asshole. But he’s got a good reason to be. He made a mistake in the past and it cost him the life of his younger brother. Since then, Stryke has put distance between himself and his family and friends, knowing that they are better off without him. Maybe. Maybe not.

Stryke has built himself an empire and makes weapons that can identify and destroy demons, despite being a demon himself. Stryke wants to annihilate all the “bad” demons to safeguard the world against the scourge of evil. The road to hell is literally paved with good intentions, and the collateral damage is catastrophic.

Stryke’s demon-killing weapons may make his bottom line look great, but they have destroyed Cyan’s life. First with her parents and now with her best friend. If anyone has a reason to want Stryke dead, it’s Cyan. However, his intelligence and his company are much-needed in this new world order. But she’s seriously thinking about kicking him in the nuts. Hard. Me too, sister.

When Cyan’s boss–Kynan–assigns her to work closely on a super secret project with Stryke’s company, this gives her the perfect chance to exact revenge. But, once she checks out Stryke’s state-of-the-art labs and technology, Cyan is too busy salivating over all his “equipment.” And his facilities are nice, too 😉

As Cyan and Stryke spend more time together, she realizes there’s more to him than his ruthless ambition and callous veneer. Stryke is a fundamentally damaged lost soul trying to right a wrong by any means necessary, even at the expense of his own life. It’s both endearing and infuriating. Damn him for making us love him!

Wowee! This story is a crazy train ride full of emotions! From the menacing glares to the steamy power plays, Cyan and Stryke are combustible together! They are burning up the pages with their scorching chemistry, sharp quips, and lively banter. I absolutely love them together!

The storyline is exciting, the characters are entertaining, and the surprises are mind-blowing!

I highly recommend it!

I was immediately drawn into reading this book because the cover was pretty lol
I was into this one from the start. I mean, demons that will die unless they have sex every few hours? It sounds odd but was honestly fascinating - and the author managed to make it spicy but not in a gross or explicit way.
I LOVE books that have a glossary to explain things, and since I haven't read the original series that go with this one, it was very helpful to know what was what and who was who.
I really liked how the story started out with a prologue, and it did exactly what a prologue is supposed to do, and did it perfectly! I think it did a really good job of introducing some of the characters and background for the main story, and set up part of the conflict and emotion as well.
The main characters were very likable and easy to understand and read. I think it was obvious what was going to happen on the romance front, but I also find that typical in books - so this was not a bad thing.
I was so sad reading through parts with the MMC, because his story is heartbreaking. But then he meets the FMC who changes everything wile he changes her opinion of him. Their entire arc was so beautiful and written well, and was easily something that could really happen - minus the demon parts lol
The world building was really cool. This one is set in the future, in a world where humans have learned of the existence of demons, werewolves, etc. and there are different types of demons that have different types of powers, which was really cool. I liked how a lot of the story aligned with a lot of classic things, like the archangels and other characters, and heaven, hell and earth. The use of technology was pretty well thought out and really interesting - this alone let you know it's set in the future and a lot of it was really fascinating.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this one, and found myself not being able to put it down!
This is book two in the Demonica Birthright series, and to be honest you do not need to read book one (or the other related series) in order to read this one - I didn't, but I will be now!!

If you haven't yet read any of the books in this world you really need too. These characters are the type that even after years they stick with you. You become very invested with their lives and seeing what has become of them and meeting their next generation has entertained me to no end.

As I've mentioned I love this world, and I am looking forward to reading more. I really wanted to know more about Stryke and his past. You know what happened and feel for him, but you don't know why he totally shut down and pushed everyone away. Yes, something happened but that doesn't stop those who love you wanting you in their lives. Stryke had to learn that the hard way.

You understand why Cyan doesn't care for Stryke. She has really good reason but for this book it's a case of what we think we know over what we really know about someone. I think that's what I liked about this story is watching both Stryke and Cyan overcoming some sad and often times devasting past memories. I enjoy how they worked together and learn about forgiveness and happiness. The action within the story is nonstop and will keep you on your toes. You will often wonder what can happen next. I know I can't wait for the next part to happen.

Writing review aren't as easy as some think. I so badly want to tell you guys all that happened in the story, but I also know that you should learn it all for yourself. You need to enjoy it like I did. I will mention that if I've never read this author before winter is the perfect time to try her. Start the series from the beginning and get ready to fall in love.
