This is a post-apocalyptic story about how a hero, John Harris, leads a group of people in rebuilding the country after a major nuclear and EMP attack. A coalition of Islamic Terrorists, Drug Cartels and rogue US Government thugs kill over 200 million people in the USA and Western Europe. John leads the fight against the rogue Department of Home Land Security and Mexican Drug Cartels while the remnants of the US military deal with the terrorist countries overseas. There is no electricity and food and water are running out. Looting, rioting and gang violence are the rule of the day. John’s team fights for survival against very long odds, but John is a hard man for hard times. The four book series spans from 2020 to 2048.

Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing.
He read every book he could get his hands on and fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author.
He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him a great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms.
He currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Patsy and their three tiny mop dogs, Sammy Cotton and Callie.

It's not too often that I start a book or a series and don't finish it, but this is one of the very few. It looked like it had possibilities, and I have enjoyed other books and series by A.J. Newman. I made it as far as the first 45 pages and just couldn't take it anymore of the racial comments and sexist comments.
Maybe if I stuck with it a little longer, I could have made my way through, but why waste the time on something that just doesn't interest you.

A good enough book.

A good read with a good enough pace that helped me finish the book. There are a lot of characters and the main character, John Harris, his chat up lines are abysmal and made me cringe apart from that they were entertaining. I'm not sure if I will read the next book.

I wouldn’t

When I start a book of this genre and in the first two chapters I read “large breasts” “Special forces” and “Team” I know it’s going downhill fast, this book reinforced that nonsense.
Oh to be an author! I seriously wished that when writing a novel, that the authors wouldn’t play to the ridiculous stereotypes of their audience. Put some effort into the story and it’s characters, not everyone is ex- military or a gun nut. Some people simply go to work and then home with exercise and fun sprinkled in and that is a great life. Although I’m not one of that type, I know many who are. Provide a storyline of a regular couple that have a functional marriage, love family, friends and their country. Throw them into a post apocalypse scenario and let’s party. Sadly this book plays to the typical nut job.

Unusually poor written

I've read many things from this author and was unpleasantly surprised by the lack of editing and the elementary writing... And not in the my Dear Watson way either. I did read the whole thing. Mainly because I was intrigued by the 2048 POV, but also because the story line is intriguing and I like the characters even though they were rough and presented horribly. I'm hoping since this was copyrighted in 2014 that the subsequent books are better.

Hmmmm.....Finally another post apocalypse book worth reading that isn't like all the rest

Hard to find another author who keeps me engaged like Thomas A Watson and NC Reed. Yet here we are. Loved this book! Now about to read the next book but wanted to leave a review. Kudos to this author!

Barely Readable

I really tried to like this book, but I couldn't even finish it. Usually I'm the type of reader that has to read to the end no matter how bad the writing is, but this book was so cliche and extreme, I stopped reading halfway through.

Great read

A well written story with a scary true to life plot. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Good read

This could become reality, if the left wins the election. Story about how people survived when teotwawki happened. Some of this, seems to fit current times.

Too many names and characters. And all introduced the wrong way.

I just quit reading around Page 17, and tossed the book in trash.

Without a doubt the mostly poorly edited book I've ever not given up on! I started to put it down so many times I lost count but I didn't have a backup book in mind. Glad I stuck with it, though. The story is good although you need to remember the need to suspend all belief in reality.

Great time

I was hooked from page one. Great characters, great characters, interesting villains. If your into survival, prepping, post apocolyptic, or anything like that. Read all of this authors book

So far a great series start hopefully.

Like what I've read so far and hopefully will get better with the next book in the series. Thank you A.J. Newman for the adventure.

Yuck

Beyond terrible - I quit halfway through the first chapter as it was full of exclamation points and just plain childish.

Struggling

A good story but hampered by a very difficult to follow beginning and really needs a new proofreader. Way too many errors and I got put off by them.
