My English review

I’m not often disappointed by the novels of the publisher and when I saw the release of this new series, I was immediately intrigued.

Since the death of her husband in her former kingdom, Brenna, Shadow Bearer, is now exiled in the earthly world. Yes, because she has messed up with the designs of her father when the young woman rebelled to avenge the man she loved. Today, she is forced to stay on earth to redeem herself, away from her family but with a wh

So the biggest problem I had when it came time to review this book was trying to decide if I liked it or I loved it, which is always a good sign. This was easily one of those books that I want to sit in one place for a few hours, have no one disturb me, and just submerge myself into the world and the characters and escape for a while. I genuinely enjoyed the book from beginning to end.

A couple of things stood out to me

Loved, loved, loved this book! It had everything I could wish for in an Urban Fantasy novel and it hit the spot time and time again.
To start we get a kickass female lead with a bad history and a lot of power – nice combo! We meet Brenna Baudouin a Shadow Bearer that has been banished from her home world after she wiped out an army of men following her husbands’ death at the hands of the very people she should have been able

Not bad.

Fairly interesting concept and characters.

Would have appreciated more info regarding the setting. All the background info was somewhat vague. It's clear that there was a war and the war caused all sorts of damage to earth and the veil which separates earth from other planes, thus allowing Others (supernatural beings) to get through. Logically there had to have been several different planes simply because of the variety types of supernatural beings mentioned but the only one specified w

Quick & Dirty: Overall, Shadows of Fate has all the elements of a great read. Dennis definitely shows promise and her Shadow Born series could become a strong new series for other readers of Urban Fantasy.

Opening Sentence: Rotting wood crunched under Brenna’s weight as she stepped into the shadows beside the deserted storefront.

Shadows of Fate is the first book in the new Shadow Born series by Angela Dennis. In the world created for this book, humans are aware of paranormal creatures. They are also the minority. Nobody wants the humans to become extinct so a special ‘peace keeping’ unit was created and everyone tries to live in a semblance of peace. I have not read many books where the paranormal creatures outnumber the humans so, for me, that was a neat little twist. What was a

Well hot damn, I found a great new Urban Fantasy series to love!! It grabbed me from the beginning, AND it kept me there, because there are so many mysteries that unravel so perfectly! There are so many good things to say about this series. It starts with a girl, who has some special powers, and she’s living on Earth, or what’s left of it after a little incident that started an apocalypse. Well, she was forced on Earth! LOL And yet, she makes the most of it. She has a very enlightening outlook o ...more

A really good book, Brenna is a Shadow Bearer, she has been banished from her world and now she lives on earth.
I like Brenna, she’s a brave woman with an awful father who treats her like a pawn and ask for her banishment. She’s strong and work with Seraph to eradicate all the demons on earth. Unfortunately, Gray is also a Shadow Bearer and he’s her new partner.
Gray has a secret, Brenna betrayed his friends and he wants to take revenge. But the more he’s with her, the more he rediscovers her an

Brenna was sent to marry a rival clan member, to prevent further civil unrest, and on their wedding night, he was brutally murdered. She lost control of her power and killed over 300 men, before having the blame laid squarely at her feet, and she was banished to a post-apocolyptic earth, to find and destroy the demons seeping throught the Veil. This sounded a great read, and looked to be one that may continue into a series, and I love those. Sadly, though its well written, somehow I just couldn’t really get into the story.
I found myself putting it aside for other reads then picking it up again. I restarted a couple of times thinking maybe I just hadn’t quite understood who and what everyone was. Its a very different sort of par

When I first read the synopsis for this book I was excited to join the tour. And it was a great read!!! Any fans if paranormal romance or urban fantasy will love this read. We get a look into this world after the veil between the human and demonic worlds had been torn open. Demons are able to get into the human world and other creatures are proven real.

The story starts by meeting Brenna who is serving her time after being banished from her home world after committing mass murder. People seem to

Shadows of Fate, the first book in the Shadow Born series by Angela Dennis, offers readers a new take on post-apocalyptic tales, leaving out intense religious battles, flesh-eating zombies, and war-happy little green men. Instead, we’re shown a world that has been torn apart by Man’s war- The Fall. The Fall has created a rip in the veil between our world and the others, allowing dangerous, magical, and what were thought to be mythical creatures to roam the Earth. Mankind has now been forced unde ...more
Exiled for one-hundred years from her home realm, Brenna has lived on Earth about ninety, long, lonely years using her abilities to keep the Earth safe from the hordes of monsters that threaten to overrun it. When her partner is killed, she gets paired up with a mysterious, yet strangely familiar man, from her home world. This is particularly odd since no other Shadow Bearers have stayed on Earth but herself. Gray has secrets that Brenna feels may put her friends at risk, but she also feels incr ...more

So it’s has been a while since I have read a good ole paranormal romance / urban fancy, but man did I enjoy the crap out of this!! In fact it may have re sparked my interest in the genre.

I was so hooked from the first few pages. The writing was solid and the world building was outstanding, I could really see everything. I found the learning curve to be a bit steep at first but I fast found the pace and just loved it. Brenna was kick ass and was an awesome protagonist, she was strong capable and

I'm such a sucker for a good Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Book. I love a strong, kick-ass heroine, and this story did not disappoint.
Brenna is a Shadow Bearer who is trying to find who is responsible for a slew of killings. Her and her new partner, Grey, must work together to clear Brenna’s name and prove she isn’t the one doing the killing. It’s not an easy task considering she thinks he was sent to kill her, so she doesn’t trust Grey.
The changing POV is something I don’t enjoy, but it worked well

This was a great urban fantasy story.
Brenna Baudouin is a Shadow Bearer, exiled from her world for 100 years, for losing control after she saw her husband being killed.
In this new world she is policing supernatural beings that have spilled over.
She gets a new partner, a fellow Shadow Bearer called Gray Warlow. He is out for revenge.
This is when Angela takes us on an exciting rollercoaster ride, with fierce battles & conspiracy plots, plus the very strong sexual tension between Brenna & Gray.

Wow. When I heard about this book I knew I would enjoy it, but I can't believe how much I loved this read. Dennis hooked me in with this book. I couldn't put it down. Very well written. I loved the action and the paranormal.

The characters are amazing. I loved Gary, even from the beginning. Brenna was a tough character with a tough past to get past. I loved the chemistry between the two. I really loved the storyline. Honestly I want to gush about all the details, but I don't want to spoil it for

I liked this book, however, one should be paying attention to the stated target audience. It is for adults and has sexual language some may want to avoid.

That said, the story is well paced and sets up mysteries about the main characters' lives that pull the reader in. The romance element is well played. Especially where, as the reader, you are privy to information the other characters don't know. I found myself urging the characters to just get together already.

Overall, I recommend this book to

Complex characters, intriguing plot, good balance of mystery, romance, world-building, and character development. I really enjoyed reading this book and it will be interesting to see what happens next with Brenna and Gray. I can say that I figured out who Gray truly was early on, but maybe it was meant to be obvious to the reader and not so much to Brenna. Anyway, I hope that we don't have to wait too awful long for the second book.
