The Voice
Aillie has the spirit of a wolf, even if her failing heart is weakening her human body. It’s no wonder her presence causes a stir when her father decides to take her home to live with his wolf clan in Scotland.
When she tries to find solitude in the hills above MacTire Loch, all she ends up finding is a cocky member of the neighboring clan. Colin is all alpha and the future laird. He’s also her father’s worst nightmare. Or so he thinks.
Aillie’s true enemies are much closer to home. Aillie and Colin will have to put aside their clashing personalities to fight against history, myths and bitter old wolves, if she’ll have any chance at life.
The futures of two clans ride on the hope of a legend that Aillie holds the key to. She has little time left to make stubborn wolves listen to reason before her human heart fails under the heat of her wolf blood.

The Goodreads synopsis already provides the basic storyline: Aillie has been taken to her father’s former home in Scotland, after her mother’s death. She is a half human-half wolf shifter, but has never been able to change into wolf form. She meets a mysterious stranger on one of her outings, and he turns out to be the son of the leader of a rival neighboring clan. Her poor health (her failing heart) also plays a central role in the story.
I thought the idea for the story was the best part of the book. It didn’t read like a lot of the other supernatural/wolf shifter stories out there – there was a fresh perspective with Aillie’s inability to shift and the background story involving her mother.
However, there were some plot issues for me. It felt very Twilight-like when there was a misunderstanding with the guy and Aillie just gave up and lost the will to live. Fortunately that didn’t drag on very long. I would have liked to see more development of Duncan’s character early on to find out why he was such a supporter of Aillie. Some of the other plotlines could have also used more development/explanation. For example, the no-music on their land initially seemed very weird to me, and the full explanation didn’t occur until much later in the book.
This book appears to be self-published through Create Space Publishing by the author. There are some minor typos in the book (worth mentioning if you’re the type of reader who is driven nuts by it), but overall there aren’t too many noticeable mistakes. However, the character dialogue just didn’t work for me in many parts of the book. Overall, the book was a quick read, enjoyable with an interesting plot, although it could use some additional editing to strengthen the weaker points.
