Great classics of philosophy revisited for an easier interpretation series
Who among us does not have rivals? Plutarch writes about it as easily as only great communicators do, and explains how to treat those who are not on our side. In "De capienda former inimicis utilitate": "How to profit by one’s enemies," the great philosopher introduces his thought with irony bu

"So the man who knows that his enemy is his competitor in life and repute is more heedful of himself, and more circumspect about his action, and brings his life into a more thorough harmony. For it is a peculiar mark of vice, that we feel more ashamed of our faults before our enemies than before our friends"
Teresa
It is amazing how something written in 1st century AD about friendship and enmity is still so factual! That said, the style is both convoluted and extremely detailed, so it can get a bit boring.

É espantoso como algo escrito no século I dC é ainda tão actual!

A very easy read with some very insightful ideas.
