A good reference book that’s super portable, has helpful illustrations and directions for poses, and a decent amount of yoga history and philosophy. The only things I would have liked to see is more clear organization of beginner, intermediate, and advanced poses, and some suggested sequences for different levels or goals. Sun Salutation was outlined, but there were no other suggestions or guidance on creating a balanced routine.
Started having this book on my bedside almost two years ago, occasionally taking a glimpse, trying out a pose, a few pages every few weeks, then actually started reading it only recently. A really sweet little book about yoga. It goes through telling you about the yoga lifestyle, the poses, lots of it, what they’re good for, how to do them properly etc. And it ends by expanding way beyond the poses, how to live the yoga spirit, doing meditation, breathing and all that comes with it. I had no idea Yoga was so “big” as in what it all is beyond doing poses on a mat. I really enjoyed it.
This cute book is a combination of bite-size information on yoga poses, breathing tips, and meditation advice; along with an easily digestible presentation of the history and philosophy of yoga. I had flicked through it on occasion over the last few years, however I finally picked it up and decided to read it front to back. The tone is light, yet it shines a light on yogic culture that the mainstream glosses over. The book explains the journey of yoga through history, and how it can be a way of life - encapsulating all aspects of the human experience and perspective, with physical poses only forming a small part of the concept of yoga as a whole. Various interesting yoga practices are outlined, with advice on how to try them if the reader wishes. I didn't expect to get as much out of The Little Book of Yoga as I did; it opened my eyes to the depths and potential of yoga, as well as a rich history. A great little book for anyone interested in yoga!
Cute book. Chronicle Books rarely disappoint, and they didn't here. It packs a lot in this little book. Good binding on the hard cover, so even though it's small, it opens up well. I love that it includes mantra, mudras, bandhas, and chakras. Plus, it provides information for on "yoga off the mat," which is what really pulled me into learning more about yoga so many years ago. It's a sweet, sweet book. Great gift for new-to-yoga or a beginner yogi.
This book has a lot of really interesting information about yoga and its history. It helped me to increase and to intensify my yoga sessions. Love this!
Part of my New Year's resolution (OK, every year) is to do more yoga and get more flexible. Sigh. Anyway, this book is the best short one I've read on yoga anywhere. It puts yoga into its historical context, talks about the different types of yoga, and about how yoga has spiritual dimensions that often get lost in the physical shuffle. A beautiful little book, and now there are no excuses for making progress in 2016. Hooray.
