The Games is a humorous but dark, even mean, political thriller. This mother of all conspiracies starts slow but the action accelerates quickly. Good guys dont win in the end because there are none. Its a battle of evil against evil involving environmental protection organizations operating extortion rackets; terrorism without a cause; secret services running amok; global ...more

The Games: Izai Amorim

There are many people that will go more than just the extra mile to get what they want. Some will forge ahead at the expense of others and some will enlist the aid of another person in order to attain their goals even though their resources might be compromised, their wealth depleted by millions and the integrity shot. But, that wont stop what is about to happen when two separate factions decide to go after the one goal: MONEY AND POWER. January 2013 is the setting. The

The Games is off center enough to keep you intrigued. Case in point. There is a bid for "The Games" that is for 2021. Your mind goes to The Olympics but this can't be right because the year is wrong. The real game is the battle for position by all the players in the book. Everyone wants something. Be it sex, power, money, respect, or a life that was. There is no one to rally behind. No protagonist, no antagonist. The characters are not multidimensional. There are no good guys, only shades of ...more

What an amazing read!!
This is the funniest book I have read in a while and the author has a style I haven't seen before. I haven't laughed out loud with a book in quite a while and did so throughout the book. Very refreshing and very appealing in my opinion. One of the things I love is the way he uses politically correct language to show how wrong some of it is. It so stupid it is funny. Well done!
I am going to see if he has any other books in this genre and style and get those.

I was fortunate enough to win a copy of The Games in a GoodReads giveaway.

The plot in the story is fantastic. Boiled down, the story is about Berlin attempting to land a bid to host an event similar to the Olympic Games (thus, the title). There are several organizations that attempt to affect this bid, both positively and negatively, and the genius in the plot is in regards to how these groups interact with each other.

The story takes place in an alternate reality where most of Europe has become

Unpredictable, but in a good way
On page 1 you're led to believe this is a thriller about stopping nuclear terrorism. As you go along, the bomb has little to do with the story. This book is packed with satire, social commentary and dark humor, but relatively little action. But that's alright, since the background story to the attack sucked me in. This whole story strikes me as literary fiction merely masquerading as a thriller!

Another unique point: almost the entire tale is told in the present

Make me think, make me laugh, make my day!

Thats why Izai Amorim reads and writes books. He has great interest in the interplay of media, information, and politics in a globalized world and the quest for identity and borders in a worldwide cultural melting pot. Izai was born and raised in Brazil but spent most of his adult life abroad, briefly in the USA, mostly in Germany.

He was trained as an
