Colaba Conspiracy is the story of Sushmita - a newly widowed girl, who is expelled from her husband's home by the children of her husband's first marriage, with the charges that she was not actually married to their father. Not only that, she was also threatened by the local police that if she tries to pursue her claim in her husband's property, she would be made an accused in her husband's murder. She has no one to trust and to fight against this injustice, except her old neighbour Jeet Singh, who once had a soft corner for her.

Colaba conspiracy is the story of Jeet Singh - a school drop-out, with no qualifications, except the God-gifted skill to open any kind of lock, safe or vault. There was a time when he was mad after Sushmita, but she got married and he was left alone. His name was Jeeta, which literary means a victor, but he never won anything, always been a loser. His luck never did a favour to him and he was always dragged into trouble by his ill luck. When Sushmita approaches Jeet Singh for help, he refuses to provide any kind of help citing the circumstances under which he could not afford to come out; moreover, he was of no help considering his educational or monetary qualifications.

But in fact, Jeet Singh could not keep himself away from the problems of Sushmita and decided to help her whatever way he could. He had nothing to rely upon except one thing - his rare skill of a locksmith with which he could earn some money in order to finance the fee of a leading lawyer, so that the lawyer could bail out Sushmita from the problem. Jeet Singh puts his fears aside and jumps into the shallow world of heist where he faces the fire of an underworld don, double cross and treachery.

Whether he succeeds in his pursuit? Who was behind the murder of Sushmita's husband? Whether any one of the children of Sushmita's husband aware of their father's killer? The story takes readers in to a tight grip, the reader can not escape before finishing the book. This book has all the ingredients - a murder mystery, a couple of heists, underlying the corruption in Police and a courtroom drama. But above all, it is the vulnerability of characters which makes those look like real life characters and the emotional angle adds icing on the cake. The book is truly 'unputdownable'. A must read for all.

A lock breaker has escaped jail by a whisker and resolves to lead a clean life. Life however has other plans and he is led into a series of sinister conspiracies due to his old flame returning to his life. Will he be able to overcome his troubles? Or will his past catch up. A good thriller.

Surender Mohan Pathak is master of plotting and keeps you rivetted to the story till the time you have finished it. Nice characterisation. Good plot. Worth a read.

Have been hearing about the author's works for a time being, and also, a long time passed since I picked up a typical, 'pocket book' wala crime thriller. (the ones with which my reading habit started, as early as 7 yr old!) So, got my hands on this.

Though, the scenario is promising, i did find the language bit uncomfortable for fluid reading. Once got used to, the plot gets confused in itself and can't hold up for longer. At the end of the day, the reveal is just fizzled out. At 400 something pages, it felt a bit tiresome job to reach towards conclusion to be frank. I heard the author has 300+ books. But I don't think I will pick some up soon. Not my genre I feel.

This English translation of the Hindi pulp fiction novel is a okay-ish, one time read. This doesn't seem to be one of Pathak's best... I have to read another one to decide if I will read more of him or not ;-)

Not a great read. There are disconnected sub plots, pathetic first person dialect, hindi-english mixed conversations. Ah.
