This is ABSOLUTELY a most Kick-ass Book!
We have The Sanctum, an organization put in place by the Gods to rule and protect. However, where power exists, so often does corruption. The leadership of The Sanctum is sick and twisted.
We have The Sanctum warriors. They are honorable and highly trained warriors. Unfortunately, they follow orders blindly. The exception are three of our four main characters, Wyatt, Ryker, and Jools who see with clear eyes the corruption in The Sanctum. Yet, they feel hon ...more

Well, Madhuri Blaylock sure knows how to start a book off with a bang and end with a doozie of a cliffhanger. 'The Girl' is about several young paranormals running amok in New York. These teenagers, however, are not young. They have been running from or for the all-powerful Sanctum. At 16 you are already a warrior, and the characters reflect the maturity that goes with dispensing justice on behalf of the governing body. I would classify this as New Adult except the characters are technically in

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Madhuri Blaylock's first book of The Sanctum series, The Girl. The story was intriguing and I loved learning about the organisation of The Sanctum with its dutiful and faithful as well as the corrupted members.
The style was interesting in that certain parts, with Dev (Demon-Angel hybrid) for example, were written with economic, almost report-like efficiency which worked very well for the character and heightened the action scenes as well as telling us something abou ...more

Amazing new fantasy book! I love this series already!
Upon starting this book, I immediately got wrapped up in the characters and story. They are well developed and intriguing whether magical or demon or part of the powerful Sanctum. From the minute we are introduced to each one, they are captivating whether they are good or evil. And the imagination behind the story is powerful. This book will suck you in and consume you until the very end. And leave you desiring the next in the series...

"I don't think she'll ever see me anything but Sanctum... but for me, I stopped being Sanctum the second I saw her."
I am in love with this woman and her talent with the written word! This book has it all, magical beings and badass warriors. Love and hate. Madhuri Blaylock's The Sanctum Book One: The Girl centers on "the Girl," a young warrior named Dev, who is targeted for termination by the Sanctum, a powerful governing body of ten founding families. They rule over a society that is much like our current one, except that, along with humans, it contains Magicals (werewolves, vampires and fairies) and Sanctum warriors (humans with extraordinary capabilities). Dev's lineage and unique capabilities poses a threat to one family in particular, the Bre

The Girl’ is a YA Paranormal fantasy novel filled with magic, vampires, warriors, lots of juicy action, revenge and even political intrigue. It dares to poke holes in the mindset that many governments have where teenagers can join the military (The Sanctum in this instance) to fight and kill for them but they’re still not allowed to drink alcohol or make up their own mind. Due to this many soldiers find themselves fighting for the side they assumed was good but turned out that war or being the r

Who wants to read about handsome men, gorgeous vampires, and deadly women? OK you can put your hand down now and use it to pick up The Girl. It's an escapist fantasy of the paranormal genre with a diverse cast which is something a lot of authors could take note of.

This book is so good and I feel like everyone needs to know about it. It started off feeling like City of Bones with the Magicals and the Academy being easy points of comparison but this is so much more. All the characters are so fleshed out and different and YES. Dev is a hybrid, half demon, half angel and she's awesome. We get to go through her ups and downs with her and it's easy to connect to her in a way. Wyatt is a warrior and we get to see how as soon as he meets Dev there's a connection.

I loved this book right from the beginning. It is well paced and the cast of characters is as well developed as it is diverse. I was instantly drawn into the plot and felt connected with Dev, Wyatt, Ryker and Jools. I couldn’t help but admire Wyatt who defies The Sanctum when he meets Dev and feels an instant connection to her. I loved Dev, the kick ass heroine and I also really liked the relationship between Wyatt and Ryker. I thoroughly enjoyed the backstories of the characters which made me r

I enjoyed The Girl, the first book in the Madhuri Blaylock fantasy trilogy. While the underlying diversity was appealing, it was the story itself that drew me in to discover the characters. The author painted the story with broad strokes. Set in a military academy highlights were budding romance, young, ambitious and fierce warriors, almost unbreakable friendship and family bonds, mystifying attraction beyond reason, and beneath it all a deepening mystery surrounding the almost invincible yet su

Am amazing book by any standard.
The characters are not cookie-cutter archetypes, they surprise at every turn. Heroes have villainous parts and villains can seem heroic. But make no mistake, the story has heft, suspense and action. All come alive through the words on the page.

What happens when the organization that is all you have ever known, has always been at the center of all you do and believe in turns out to be a derelict version of its original self and all you have given your life for is a faced for corruption, greed and power? The Sanctum’s mandate was to maintain balance and peace among magicals while never allowing them to be exposed to the human world they live in.

When I started this book, I had some expectations but this book went beyond my expectations. The Girl by Madhuri Blaylock, is an excellent paranormal romance with intense action. Even though paranormal is my least favorite genre and it has been long that I have read one, Madhuri’s writing certainly made me accustomed to it.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a great read featuring a new take on the paranormal world. The Sanctum is an organization that oversees the safety of the human and magical world (or so they claim) but somewhere in the 10 families that rule it there was a power struggle and now it is becoming corrupted. Wyatt, and his partner in battle Ryker, are two of the top class A warriors of the Sanctum and they sense this corruption, but are still fighting for the Sanctum … unti ...more

What an amazing ride through love, loss, and adventure. i thoroughly enjoyed this story. an ad on goodreads peaked my interest so i checked out amazon and purchased this a while back. i just got around to reading. i started about a month ago and and only got through two chapters. Then, this week i remembered i never went back to it, so i started reading again and finished the rest in less than 24hrs. It was such a ride and I truly had no idea which way it would go. I've got one word to start off with to describe this book and that is "SUPERB".
The author was kind enough to lend me a copy to read, i was a bit reluctant to read it first since i thought 'that's not a good title for a book',well after reading even a bit of it my conception and thoughts about this spectacular book reversed entirely and i am happy to say that i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wow. What a book. Just sensational. The Girl was recommended to me. It is an action packed New York based fantasy thriller.
Madhuri is very clever. The book has a number of interesting elements. It is a fun read and definitely a page turner.
The 4 main characters are beautiful young people. There is a continued interesting commentary about how spectacularly beautiful Dev and Jools are, and about how tall, muscular and handsome are Ryker and Wyatt. However, they are all functional super warriors, ...more

as I was saying before I ran out of space. I would love to see this unfold once a week for a crap load of seasons on T.V. I can see the rough corners of the story but it has been like an unfolding of richness. I feel like I am getting all this wonderful ground work laid for me to inhabit this place where all the crazy wondrous things will happen. Sometimes when I am reading I have to go back to put two and two together because I miss something.. It has not happened since I picked up the story.I

I read this book sometime ago. I feel awful that I didn't review it sooner. I met Madhuri on Twitter @madhuriblaylock, and I now consider her a friend. Just talking to Madhuri I could instantly tell that she was a badass chick. It didn't surprise me that her main character Dev is also a badass chick.

'The Girl,' is an amazing start to what I'm sure will be a wonderful series. Following the life of a less than human girl, Dev, the story introduces us to the world of The Sanctum.
The Sanctum is a foundation set up by the Gods to protect both humans and magicals, and at the start of the story we find out that they are hunting down Dev and her family.
On the run, Dev finds herself in New York where she falls in love with the most unlikely person, a Sanctum Warrior. The half angel, half demon girl, ...more
