Stuff I Read - Futuredaze 2: Reprise Review

Science fiction is a big field. It incorporates a lot of sub-genres, a lot of ideas, a lot of styles. And this book does an excellent job in showcasing just how different, just how diverse the field is. From superhero stories to steam-Westerns set on alien worlds to dystopias to post-apocalyptic settings, the collection really pulls from a wide range of experiences and messages. Shelves: anthologies
Like most anthologies, this is a mixed bag. Holder and Gardner seem to be good at picking stories with good writing and/or worldbuilding, but most of them fall flat in terms of storytelling and characterization. Here's a story-by-story review:

A couple of years ago, Charles de Lint gave a reading in Toronto from his current young adult novel. He began by saying that he was surprised that his publisher allowed some of the language and situations that he had put in the book, which he felt were quite adult.
