Yūsei Matsui (松井優征 Matsui Yūsei?, born January 31, 1981 in Saitama, Japan) is a manga artist known for manga Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. He was an assistant of Yoshio Sawai, the manga artist of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (Shirota Masakage made a cameo appearance in Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo).
Exam time: Koro-sensei helps us understand high stakes standardized tests:
"Exams are an excellent pedagogical tool. . . even though you'll forget most of what you crammed into your head practically overnight--and certainly by the time you are grown up. However. . . You'll polish your learning skills, expand your minds, and compete against each other on a level playing field. The experience you get from that is our gold." Ha! This one could be paired with the experimental novel Multiple Choice!
The exam sequence, seen as a battle with a monster, is great, with high energy. Amusing. This sequence is visually the best of this volume. And then Koro Sensei's lower level class does unexpectedly well, which comes with a reward. They get to go to Fokuma Island, also known as Pandemonium Island, where they get to test one area of their scholarship: Assassination of their beloved teacher. They also, not surprisingly, get to explore one of the weaknesses of the tentacled one: His love of curvaceous women. They leave porn around for him, to see if they can distract him, which is. . . uh, just sort of a gratuitous opportunity to show curvaceous women, of course. There's a lot of that in this one.
The assassination attempt is like the others, original and failed. There's another group they're competing with to kill their teacher, okay. . . but it is sort of disappointing that Koro Sensei is continually a shape-shifter. Is it even possible to win against this guy? (Apparently not, or the series would have to end.)
I am glad I don't just read these one after the other, because it is a silly premise and since there are many more volumes, we know the students fail at assassination, but the energy in this one is strong and it was nice to revisit this after some time away. I like it! This one is 3.5 plus, for sure.
The final exams definitely are a beastly form but thankfully our class E-3 have managed to ace it and have even earn a surprising reward: a tropical island vacation 🏝️. As they all bask in the island’s sights and sounds, the class plans to execute a very detailed plan to assassinate Koro-sensei that will surprisingly show a special defense form of his. Unexpectedly, some of them will be infected by a biological weapon from a notorious assassin known as the Grim Reaper. A (100%/Outstanding)
That assassination attempt was a thing to behold. Class 3E is really coming into their own. So that's why I don't appreciate some shadowy characters trying to kill them. Here's hoping they get a taste of their own actions.
Final exams time! I love how Matsui depicts the exams as battles with anthropomorphic representations of the subjects. It works well. After grades are revealed, the class gets a well-deserved vacation. They even come up with an assassination plan that seems to have a strong chance of success. Another team is also gunning for Koro Sensei, though, and they're perfectly willing to write off Class E as collateral damage. Volume 8 will kick off with their plan to strike back. Looking forward to it!
They've battled their courses as hard as they've battled Class A. They might just make it out on top. The class request gets revealed and Class E gets to put their skills to use in the real world against old and new foes. We also get go experience More Sensei's ultimate defense form for the first time.
This was a pretty good volume. It's now August and that means the first semester? trimester? is over, and it's time for break. Of course for the Assassination Classroom that means more time to try to kill Koro Sensei! I love how the students are growing into their roles, becoming better assassins and learning important life lessons along the way. The exam taking is pretty funny, with the way the students picture the questions. I absolutely love Koro Sensei, he is a great teacher who can reach his students and show them why all subjects are important, like with Okuda and writing when all she really likes is science, he is able to show her that she has to be able to speak and write well to be able to share her scientific findings. One thing that did kinda upset me was that Koro Sensei did not really hint about his past this time. I really want to know what happened to him and why he did what he did! That probably won't come till the end however so... The ending was a great cliff hanger. I also like how this is not all about school, and how the students are more mature than you would think fir being only 15. A really good series for really anyone who likes action and plot. It is for an older audience, as should be pretty obvious from just a glance at the title, but it is not overly explicit in blood, unless it is Koro Sensei's nor in language for the most part. They did change Ms. Vitch to Ms. B**ch however it is not used too too often.
This HAS to be my absolute FAVORITE volume so far!!! Not only we're they so close and they get another chance to prove their mastery over everything they've learned in a practical way, but also, the side story at the end with Kusuo Saiki? BEST THING EVERRRR. it better be in the anime version or I'm gonna flip!
While the attack the students mounted this time was really clever, I’m annoyed that we’re no closer to answers about why Koro Sensei wants to teach and why he wants to destroy the world. It’s all fun and games but I want to start getting some answers
I loved seeing this assassination attempt that was so thought out. I really thought they was going to do it despite there being 14 more books as it seemed so airtight. Interesting to find out another of Koro Sensei’s abilities.
And I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see who it is up in the hotel on the mountain!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There's not really a lot to say about this series any more as far as specifics go. It's just a hell of a lot of fun, and getting to see the kids - and Koro Sensei - in a new setting was delightful!
Quite a bit happening in this installment. There is a school trip to the ocean and more elaborate assassination attempts. I really enjoy the himor of this series and can't wait to see where it is heading to.
With the finals upon Class E, Koro Sensei has offered quite the incentive: rank #1 in your best subject and you can chop off one of his tentacles; rank #1 in all five and you get to chop off five tentacles to greatly reduce Sensei's speed. If that wasn't enough, Class A has made a wager that the highest ranking class can make the other do as the winner pleases. With the principle pushing his own son to destroy Class E's ranking things are defiantly heating up! From final exams to epic assassination attempts, volume 7 is just as fun as the rest of the series.
*I would like to thank Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review*
I'm so proud of this class. They're getting so smart and sneaky. I really want them to be able to pull it off! Or for their teacher not to destroy the world. Either works.
I didn't expect to grow to love this class so much. Usually I'm rooting for the non human creature in stories like this but totally team 3-E here.
