As I enter the third book in the series, Legend of the Chupacabra by Michael Hebler, I have been reading them one after another, I become more fond of Jessie and her tenacity. She had a sordid upbringing, is self reliant, untrusting. Life is not what she would have chosen, but she would make the best of it. If she ever became your friend, it would be for life.

I couldn’t understand her felling of dread and being stalked. After all, the chupacabra was dead…isn’t it? What do you think?

“Legend of the Chupacabra” by Michael Hebler is the third episode of Hebler’s excellent Chupacabra tales, and it may be even better than the first two. I was honored to have the opportunity to read an ARC, and found myself completely lost in the story; it was not easy to put it down until I finished it.

In this story we again meet Suzanne and Jessie, but this time Jessie is all grown up and serving drinks in a Portland, OR bar, where she spends much of her time fending off unwanted advances by d

Legend of the Chupacabra is a dark and twisted, yet very interesting look into the history of our favorite creature of the wild west. I have followed this creature through books one and two and each each book has hooked me a little bit more firmly on the claws of the creature. Book three finally clears up the mystery as to where the creature actually comes from and how it came about. The creature itself is scary enough, but the reasons behind the making of the creature are even more disturbing. ...more

Legend of the Chupacabra is a more than worthy sequel in the Chupacabra series, easily outplaying the (only slightly) weaker second book and challenging the first part's favorite position.

Back are our beloved Jessie and Suzanne, but we also find out what happened to Danny and especially Norman after he was severely wounded by the chupacabra at the end of book one. What I loved most though was finally getting to know the origin of the chupacabra by witnessing the awakening of the great spirits fi

It seems that it becomes a habit of mine, at least this is the case for the last reviews, to start a little atypical, with what I would rather call the end or the final recommendation: to read the book or not. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but the situation in which I find myself reading the volumes of a series at a few months (even a year) distance, is not one that I prefer. But with the new released books you don’t have a choice, I can only give you an advice: leave aside everything you do, p ...more

In this third book in the Chupacabra series, you once again follow Suzanne and Jessie . It’s been six years since they killed the chupacabra and broke the curse. Or did they?

Suzanne seems to be settling down in Portland, believing things will be better now. Jessie, on the other hand, is her own worst enemy. She’s as sassy and quick to fly off the handle as ever. Even though she works in a rough and tumble saloon, she’s still expected to cater to the customers and is often mistaken for something

This was again a pretty good horror story I'd enjoyed reading. The story started with how a Chupacabra is made. Yes, it was made through a ritual performed by the Indians to avenge the death of one of their tribesmen.

Jessie's story started out slooow for me, I didn't like her work in a saloon but with the dramatic reunion of the characters from book one, it became a page turner. I loved how the story played out for Suzanne and Jessie. Age aside, I thought of them as mother and daughter. Once th

In Legend of the Chupacabra Michael Hebler richly develops his ongoing series of uniquely blended Horror and Western genres. Legend of the Chupacabra is the third novel in the series (preceded by Night of the Chupacabra & then Curse of the Chupacabra), so it’s definitely a good idea to start at the beginning to better appreciate Hebler’s interconnected storyline and fantasy world. While reading the entire series certainly helps frame the narrative of Legend, a pleasant talent with Hebler’s writi ...more

Review:

This third installment starts six years later after Suzanne and Jessie again barley escaping and believing the chupacabra is dead. Now living in Portland both have grown very close. Suzanne now a teacher and Jessie working at a saloon, Jessie is still that same loud mouth tough girl from before, she hasn't changed one bit.

People start disappearing and Jessie starts to get the feeling that maybe the creature is back, then someone from their past comes into the saloon one night. Danny has t

Six years have passed since Jessie last encountered the chupacabra. Now she's working at a saloon trying to save enough money to finish the trip to San Francisco her family initially set out on. Jessie begins noticing signs that the chupacabra's curse may have survived their last deadly encounter. Townspeople start to go missing but not all the disappearances can be blamed on the chupacabra. Legend of The Chupacabra is the third book in the Chupacabra series.

I very much enjoyes this part of the series. The idea of how the chupacabra is made was brilliant. There are some scary moments and the characters are further developed, which I always love.

LEGEND OF THE CHUPACABRA is the third book in the Chupacabra series by Michael Hebler. Jessie and Suzanne are living in Portland, Oregon, getting along as best they can and enjoying the fact they no longer have to worry about the Chupacabra. Unfortunately, there is a new monster created in the name of revenge by the Assiniboine tribe. Finding its way to Portland, it brings back harsh memories and a harsher future for both Suzanne and Jessie. The new Chupacabra isn’t the only monster in town…demo ...more

Prior to his tween years, Michael used to "borrow" Stephen King books off his mother's bookshelf. Although he has not been clinically evaluated, Michael is positive that his adolescent self-introduction into adult horror had an impact on his dark sense of humor and love for Jason Voorhees. On the upside, Michael has found an outlet in which to put his twisted thoughts to proper use, and thanks to ...more
