Wynne Channing is an award-winning national newspaper reporter and young adult novelist.

She started writing horror/fantasy tales as a girl. She still has the first novel that she wrote when she was 10. It’s (unintentionally) hilarious.

Wynne loves telling stories and as a journalist, she has interviewed everyone from Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman to the president of the Maldives and Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The closest she has come to interviewing a vampire is sitting down with True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard (he didn’t bite).

She briefly considered calling her debut novel “Well” so then everyone would say: “Well written by Wynne Channing.”

Another 5 Amazing Stars!!!!

Zee's adventure continues in this another action pack novel!

This time she is placed into the position as supreme vampire, hailing her as the "divine" and is caught in the crossfire of battle between the monarchy and the rebels. And it doesn't help that Lucas, the only person she trust most, is keeping distance from her, alienating her when she needed him most. While the enemies know how to get her, by hurting those whom she loves most!

I very much loved this as much as the first one!!!

Zee, still as bubbly, as funny, as gentle, as innocent, but also so in love! She is confused enough about how Lucas really feels for her, and it doesn't help that he is alienating her. And then there's her new position as vampire supreme, being the "divine".... plus, she is torn between the rebels and the monarchy. Now that's a lot to take for a new vamp and for a 17 years old! Not to mention, her powers are growing, and she misses her family. But Zee doesn't disappoint!!! She is awesome! She kicks ass! Did not change but she is even smarter than before, though still quite trusting.... and she will do everything to protect the people she loves!!!

Now Lucas, he did start off really moody. Though I understand how he felt, he was suffocating inside. And in his heart, he only wishes for Zee to be happy. He too did not disappoint!!! He is there where it counts the most! And he loves Zee!!!

New characters are introduced. San, her hot chaperone, Brogan, her lady maid, and more... but, amongst all, I love San the most!

Again, this book is full of action, suspense, it is edgy and heart wrenching, and of course, there is romance.

Highly recommend. I too now am in love with this author, Wynn Channing. Hope she is inspired to write more books as awesome as this! Written on Zee's POV.

MY THOUGHTS
I loved the first book in the series. Even though I read the first book over a year ago, I still recall how amazing it was and the feeling I got when I finished it.

Zee was once being hunted by the vampires, but now they have realized that all vampires are connected to her. If she bleeds, they all bleed. If she dies, they are die. She's now protected within the empire of vampires and treated as the divine one. Her newfound home with these vampires causes Lucas to distance himself. He distrusts the other vampires and wants to leave. Zee has to figure out how to deal with her new status, Lucas's distance, and if she can trust anyone.

In a world where almost all YA novels romanticize vampires (with the exception of The Immortal Rules), it is so amazing to find a book that does not show vampires in a positive light. The vampires in this book are inhuman and bloody. Even the main character has these qualities at times. Basically, Zee is a badass.

This book has a large build up in the beginning, exploring the vampire world and her new role. This is not boring though. It was great learning more about the vampires and it also had a large focus on Zee's character, which was really great as well. All this time leads up even more to the action-packed end!

The romance was not a big deal in this book, which is unsurprising, as this is a sequel. It was a bit saddening that Lucas and Zee were having trouble in this book. Lucas distanced himself greatly, but it made sense because of the circumstance.

IN CONCLUSION
Overall, I loved this book! I know I'm not gushing in my review, but I really like this series. It has the original, dark and badass take on vampires that I absolutely love! If you are sick of all the YA vampire romances, I recommend this!

I liked this one much better. It's a lot more edgier and interesting. Even the humor was better written than last book, much less contrived and well woven into the flow.
If you liked Zee in the last book, you'd love her even more in this. She continued to kick ass but was much more mature and smart this time around. I especially liked her new power. It was very cool.
Logan was very distant and very much absent for a long time. I couldn't quite feel him still, but I did feel the connection that he had with Zee. The romance felt a lot more developed and real this time around.
I loved the plotline and the twist that it had in the end. It was much more laden with battle scenes than the last. All in all, it was a very exciting and engaging read.

First of all, love the cover. Second, I ravaged the poor ebook under two days (two words: time management). My reaction: WOWZA. Let’s be honest, sequels sometimes get bagged on but that will not be the case with I Am Forever. Wynne’s continuation of Zee’s story was on point.

In this book, Zee is “alive” (ha) and she’s now called (and treated like) the divine. Who wouldn’t love that? With super hot Lucas by Zee’s side and everyone bending to her every whim, including the stick in-her-butt empress, things seem pretty good.

Nope. Not. At. All.

Lucas isn’t doing cartwheels over Zee’s newly labeled divinity and Zee isn’t sure where she even belongs. Does she stay in the mucky world of vampire politics or run away with Lucas, her yummy piece of man meat? It’s kinda obvious right? Unfortunately it isn’t. This is where things get even more complex for both of them.

Wynne definitely stayed true to her character’s growth and development. Book two is much much more complex and now there are so many new paths for Zee and Lucas to take.

I’m looking forward to book 3 because things are getting hot in hurr!

Wynne recently participated in an author interview. Check it out on my site: catcherinthepie.com

Is this done, forever?! :o So good and so action packed! Loved it!

I looked back to my review of the first book. I read it again and I came across what I said about fade out scenes.

My only problem with it was that there're lots of fade out scenes. I mean, not sex scenes, cause there's no sex scene as of yet. I want to see how they practice, like with Lucas' Obaia, or how Lucas trained Zee. I want to see how they would DO it. But it was not included and just treated like they already finished the training.

Wynne Channing certainly took my review (I'd like to believe it was because of me. lol) to the heart and do lots of description over the fighting scenes. Detailed! Yes! I love the gore! LMAO. She really improved in writing about Zee and Lucas. I love that she remained witty. I even laughed out loud while reading it earlier and I'm here in the office! Thankfully, no one seems to noticed or they just decided to ignore me. :P

Although while reading, I was suddenly thinking of a book I have read, if any, where the government was not trying to oppress people. But can't seem to think of any. Anyway, thumbs up on this one!

I Am Forever picks up where What Kills Me leaves off: the Monarchy has just found out that Zee is unkillable. Oh she can be killed, but the entire vampire race will die with her. Now the Monarchy must figure out what to do with her: imprison her or bring her into their folds. The answer is obvious and can accomplish two goals.

Zee is immediately renamed and presented to the entire vampire race with a “Do Not Kill” creed placed on her. The Monarchy lavishes her with jeweled outfits that Channing brings to life with sparkling words; I could practically see The Divine step out of the pages into my living room. Wynne Channing paints these details so incredibly well. Some authors struggle with world-building, but not her. Every speck of dust, every last encrusted jewel or dried blood from a tear that ran down a vampire’s cheek is in these pages, and unlike other story-tellers, it doesn’t feel like info-dumping in the least. The details are a part of the story and I love that about Channing’s writing.

I am convinced that Wynne Channing writes the best vampire stories and I Am Forever is no exception. We finally get close to the Empress in I Am Forever and Zee learns more about what it means to drown in a well of the vampire Gods’ blood. She has powers and is only now realizing them. She was super-snarky and fun in What Kills Me, and remains so in I Am Forever, but she becomes so much stronger in I Am Forever that she is finally worthy of Lucas. Of anyone! Through Zee, we learn the history of the vampire race, their weaknesses, their fears and their strengths, and more about the war between the rebels and the Monarchy. It’s politics at its best.

Lucas has a little less facetime in I Am Forever, although he is forever on Zee’s mind. He is as brooding and sexy as ever and if you haven’t read this series yet, you need to start, if for nothing else than this sexy swordsmith vampire with a conscious. He’s adorbs. Zee’s adorbs. Together, they’re adorbs! I was really in love with how obvious he was about his feelings, and she was just blind to it. So. Cute.

We are also intro’d to new characters: Brogan the transexual female maid, San the war page-turned-chaperone, the Transporter. I loved them all because they bring so much more to the story, and really round out everything, and I felt horrible when things happened to some of them.

PS: Channing’s characters are all still really funny even in the most serious of situations! I LOL’d so many times during I Am Forever that I am sure my fiance wondered what was wrong with me! For example:

“Did you see anyone’s dirty secrets?” San blurted.
“What? No,” I said.
“Because, my lady, I can explain. Fantasies are very healthy – ”
I put my hand up. “Oh my God, San. You need to stop right now.”
“Uther said it’s just a routine checkup. But they’re obviously not going to check my heartbeat or my cholesterol. What else is there to do?”
“I don’t know. How routine is an examination of a god?” He said the last word so disparagingly.
“I don’t appreciate your sarcasm,” I said.
“Oh, because I was going to update my Facebook status as soon as I got home: Zee’s a vampire. Come see her teeth.”
I’m really afraid to give away too many details of the plot, because I don’t want to spoil the story, but suffice it to say, Zee is special, the Monarchy knows she is special and has a lot of power and guess what people normally want to do with someone who has that? Zee has weaknesses and some are not above exploiting those. And unfortunately she might be a little naive, too.

Overall, this is still one of my favorite vampire series (I’m seriously starting to think it might be my favorite!), because it totally tickles every paranormal bookworm bone in my body and I loved it. It’s technically a YA, but adults will get full enjoyment out of it too. It’s full of wisdom, jokes, romance and tons tons TONS of bloody action scenes that had me fist-pumping in the air!

Move over, everybody, Wynne Channing has a new fangirl – again. It’s nearly impossible to follow-up “awesome” with “amazing”, but she does it with a superb sequel.

Sometimes vampires take themselves too seriously. They are scary blood suckers with healing abilities and fighting skills, but it wouldn’t hurt to crack a joke now and then.

That’s why I really enjoy the lead character of I Am Forever and What Kills Me, the hilarious, spunky, sarcastic, vampire Zee. Being labelled as the destroyer of vampires while being held captive in the Monarchy of vampires is anything but funny, but she makes me laugh throughout the book with her pop culture references and wise cracks at the most inappropriate times:

While being prodded by a vampire Dr: “I should tell you then that when I’m angry, I turn green.”

While being dressed by Pavone the designer: “I need to have a talk with Pavone. I look like a ballet-dancing Smurf….or a puff of blueberry cotton candy.”

Isn’t she just a darling?

The story continues after the first book where Zee is captured by the Monarchy. After finding out that every single vampire will suffer the same wounds she does, they decide to crown her as the sacred Divine instead of locking her away in a cage. This is where the majority of I Am Forever stays as Zee is worshipped and gets accustomed to the treatment of royalty. The worshipping goes on for 60% of the book and was over the top and too much at times. I mean, endless servants at her beck and call, being primped and dressed up in beautiful dresses, people bowing to her and being treated like sacred material, who wouldn’t be jealous?

“A beautiful name for the beautiful Divine.”

“You’re beautiful and you’re powerful. You will never age or die. You will exist now, as perfect as you are, for all eternity.”

“The kind cleric set me up….but the compliments should go to the Divine. You are a vision.”

After the 50th time hearing Zee being referred to as “The Divine” and being lavished with compliments, it took me a while to work up to the rest of the book. This was coupled by a romance with her companion Lucas that I couldn’t care for. With strange attacks happening whenever Zee is in public, and her manifestation of a stranger power yielding accurate visions, you would think there would be more important things to worry about than whether Lucas loves her or not.

I’m glad I persevered, because the latter half of the book is filled with lots of heart pumping bloody action, saving her loved ones, betrayals and kicking ass. Zee ripping off people’s heads and being the strong, kick ass vampire is so much better than spoilt Zee obsessing about her romance. The twists were predictable however, as I was suspicious of the Monarchy at the very start of the book – after all why would she trust them after the people they’ve killed and used?

Filled with great humour, I Am Forever is a fun-filled, hilarious, action-packed follow up to the first book. While it does suffer from some stereotypical sappy scenes and a bit too much worshipping, I enjoyed this indie vampire read and would recommend it to everyone who wants some fresh, vampire humour.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book suffered from pacing and plot issues. The beginning and middle where just so boring, the plot did not make a full appearance until the end.

There was tons of teenage angst, Axelia lost her spark until the end. Lucas's brother, Taren, is right, no matter how many centuries pass Lucas is still a teenager. The amount of existential angst these two generated negated their entire previously established relationship and was quite frankly unnecessary.

It is heartbreaking to say that the only reason, the only one, this book is getting 3 stars is because the ending was supreme and there where some occasional flashes of greatness in between.

It is truly unfortunate because practically 75% of the book could have been trimmed and ending could have been expanded to tease for the next book and established a plot for the rest of the books. I still hold out hope for the next book to have an actual plot and a tighter pace.

So good! I loved this book though it was a little slow to start with, but it definitely picked up about the 30% mark. Zee was torn between being a typical teenage girl wanting to be with her family, boyfriend and her BFF, while bearing the responsibilities and duties of being the 'Divine'. There is nothing whiny about Zee, she just sucks it up and deals with it, though sometimes it is hard to tell the good guys from the bad. I loved the witty banter between Zee, Lucas and San. I Am Forever kept me spellbound, entertained and amused, and I hope that there is another book to come soon. Great writing, unforgettable characters and fantastic world-building.

I was a little disappointed with this book. I truly enjoyed the first book, What Kills Me. The first half of this one was kinda lacking for me. It was mainly Zee being told she's The Divine and what is expected of her. It just became redundant. However, it did get exciting once things started rolling. The Rebels against the Monarchy. Lucas is eve present, always faithful swordsmith...and love. The Emperess was a very cool character. Zee getting a resolution with her family was perfect. I did like it and am glad I read this. I just wish it was awesome from the start.

I am a Super Vampire. So, why am I locked up with Lucas in an empty room, while the Empress and her cronies decide our fate?

They can’t kill me or they all die.

~~~
Spoiler Alert: I Am Forever is the sequel to What Kills Me. I will do my best to give little or nothing away, because I feel this book is even better than the first and I would like you to experience it for yourself.
The covers for Wynne’s books are beautiful. I love the colors and the effect of shattered glass. It’s an indication of what is to come as Axelia continues her battle to stay alive and retain her freedom.
Wynne writes in such vivid detail, I can breathe in the heavy scent of the botanical garden through the thick humid air. I can feel the moisture beading on my skin and dripping down my back. It is easy to relate to the excellent description, when you live in a Gulf state, as I do.
Her description of the doctor looking like Ernie from Sesame Street had me laughing out loud.
Wynne describes how vampires date by comparing it to Lady and the Tramp eating spaghetti. I bet that is a visual that will take you a while to erase from your mind.
Ever since the accident that made her a vampire, the Sacriva’s prophecy has ruled her life:
A human girl will be reborn a vampire. She will shed the blood of all those who walk in darkness. She will be the first. She will mean the death of all Vampires.
Axelia – not only was she super powerful, she was also immune to the sun. She didn’t need to breathe, but her senses were heightened and she would do it just to enjoy the smells. She had been a seventeen year old high school student, until two weeks ago. Now she is a God, but she would give her life for Lucas.
Lucas – incredibly brave. He made Axelia feel safe, having saved her life more than once. He stuck to her like glue and would die for her.
Wynne keeps me on the fence about Uther. Is he good? Is he bad? Is he trustworthy and naive or just evil? You will have to read for yourself to find out.
But the Empress, I know what she is. My question is – does Axelia?
I was disappointed in Axelia’s actions with the Empress, but I kept saying to myself, “She is seventeen years old and has only been a Vampire for two weeks.” How would I react? Or you?
Axelia’s story kept getting better. Wynne manages to have me laughing, even as heads are flying – I mean that literally. The war continues in I Am Forever and I stand by Axelia as I try to tell her to watch out for……..She only wants to have a life and I want that for her.
I received the ARC of I Am Forever from Wynne Channing, in return for an honest and unbiased review.
I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of I Am Forever, the sequel to What Kills Me! I became extremely attached to the main character and her story after reading the first book, so naturally I fangirled at the chance to read the second book. Wynne Channing has concocted the perfect writing formula and applied it to this series. I Am Forever is fast-paced, intricate and incredibly imaginative! She's taken your classic vampire story, stomped on it, and morphed it into something fresh and enjoyable--with twists and turns in the plot you will never see coming!
The heroine, Axelia A.K.A. Zee, went through a life-changing transformation in the first book which resulted in her running for her life with the help of Lucas, a fellow vampire--who is also a very handsome and noble guy. This book picks up right where the previous one left off, and it's all about what happens next for Zee now that the tables have turned and the monarchy/vampire race has accepted Zee into their society. But even though the metaphorical waters seem still and calm on the surface, you just know that something is lurking beneath the depths, gearing up to make some monster waves! That is the best way I can describe the feel of this novel, and I loved the suspense and intrigue of it all.
Zee really shows us what she's made of during the course of this novel! She is NOT a chick you want to mess with. There are several fight scenes that are so descriptive and intense that you will think you are right there in the middle of it all; it gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Zee is definitely not afraid to get BLOODY. She kicks some serious butt and I love it!
Speaking of love....The monarchy guides Zee down one path, while her heart is with Lucas; who is on a completely different path. Their relationship is really tested, strengthened and defined in this book. These two make such a great team and their chemistry is untouchable--I can't get enough of their banter and interactions! Zee is still full of snarky and humorous musings, and I enjoyed several laugh-out-loud moments prompted by her. There are some new characters that are introduced that compliment her personality so nicely; her new friend, San, being one example. He cracked me up!
I could gush and profess my love for I Am Forever all day and night. But just take my word for it when I say YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK (after reading the first book, of course)! It is well worth it and it's a fantastic read.
*Special thanks to Wynne Channing for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. =)
"She pushed her weapon at me but she was too slow. I grabbed her arm and with one jerk broke the bone, a splinter tearing through her flesh."
At last! The most awaited sequel of What Kills Me, I Am Forever, is finally here! A sequel where we can delve into the relationship of Lucas and Zee and to also find out what will happen to her!
Now that Zee isn’t being hunted down and risk getting killed that could result to extinguishing the vampire race, she now has to discover how to continue without her family and possibly without Lucas. Zee will undergo self-discovery; learn which person are a friend and a foe.
This book is definitely worth the wait. I devoured this book like a person stranded in a dessert for days. It is as great as the first one and now I want the third! Not to mention how the story ended. Channing always seems to make the readers crave for more.
Zee and Lucas’s romance wasn’t expected from the first book and with all the bloody happenings with Zee’s life; their relationship wasn’t explored much. And so, I loved how Lucas always seems to see Zee for the first time in the second novel. She’s the only one holding him to this world.
Did I mention that Zee is a complete bad-ass? 1000 year-old vampires seems like cockroaches to Zee. Need I say more? Just read the line below to know how she could kick ass.
“I spin behind him, gripped his head, and twisted it like a bottle cap.”
Wynne Channing created the perfect blend of action and romance in I Am Forever. She masterfully shaped this world of action-filled scenes with romance and comical characters mixed in. Sprinkle in a bit of drama to complete the impeccable sequel to What Kills Me. So, vampire fans that wants a bad-ass invincible heroine? Then this is a must read for you!
Favorite quotes
"I feel something for you. But judging by that blank stare you’re giving me, you probably don’t feel the same way."
"What’s with these guys pretending to kiss me and then delivering bad news? And why am I so stupid that I keep falling for it?"
“I don’t read minds. Listen, I know it sounds crazy. But—”
“Did you see anyone’s dirty secrets?” San blurted.
“What? No,” I said.
“Because, my lady, I can explain. Fantasies are very healthy—“
phenomenal sequel to an amazing book 1.
Both books are amazingly well thought out. Each character is very well built and we as readers are able to connect with Zee as she struggles with her new role and life. The action is fast paced and the fight scenes are exceptionally gruesome and detailed. Ms. Channing did not leave anything left unsaid during those pivotal scenes of sadness and heartbreak as well as adding in a well-placed love story. Each character adds his or her own touch to the plot and keeps the dynamic going to where you are on the edge of your seat anxiously awaiting to know what happens next.
I found myself, not skimming, but reading at an exceptionally fast pace because I was so eager for more. The only down side to that is once you reach the end of I Am Forever (book 2), you are left with such a hangover…it’s almost depressing knowing that you will have to wait for the final book to be released. Oh hell who am I kidding? It is depressing!
I Am Forever doesn’t have a drastic cliffhanger however, there are still many unanswered questions and from what I have seen on the author’s Facebook page, they will all be answered in book 3.
Obviously, I loved these books. I was taken by surprise and I am once again extremely pleased that I took a chance and dove in to this book.
I received an ARC copy from the author for an honest review.
Not only is the cover gorgeous but the sequel is just as amazing as "What Kills Me". Not many sequels exceed my expectations.
"I Am Forever" starts out where the first book left off. We find Zee and Lucas awaiting their fate. It's non-stop action! The writing is smart and the dialogue is witty. And some romance in there. This is a vampire story like no other out there. The storyline never stops for a moment as you are swept right into the story alongside Zee. This has now been added to my top vampire series to read. I never felt like it was gratuitous in anyway. Each scene was necessary to drive the story forward.
I highly recommend this book and the series. I look forward to anything new in the future from author Wynne Channing.
Lucas is definitely in the running for best book boyfriend this year!
Another win for this talented author who made me care about vampires again when I thought for sure I could never read another vampire book again.
Axelia and Lucas are back only now they’re living under the same roof as the Empress and as is typically par for the course things are complicated. This time around the cast expands even further and we meet Lucas’ brother and Axelia’s friend from back home, as well as some other really great new characters like Axelia’s chaperone, San, who can be counted on for many good laughs and Brogan, her maid.
I Am Forever starts off a little slow, but then picks up rather quickly and doesn’t stop until the very end. Overall, a fantastic follow-up to What Kills Me. I can’t wait to see how the story ends in the final installment!
Ok so after the action packed first book and the way it ended I've been dying to read this. Part one of this book had me a little disappointed in Zee, so much so I was getting concerned this might suffer from book 2 syndrome. JUST WAIT till you get to part 2!!!! OMG I couldn't put it down. Action packed and nail biting included! This series is really good and I think anyone who likes either UF or PNR will love this. Don't let the YA tag fool you either, this is not really a YA book at all think Night Huntress meets Twilight. Now I really need book 3!
I really liked book one in this series and the sequel was just as good! It started off with a bang and didn't let up until the last sentence.
The characters were good, and I really liked all the growing pains that Axelia went through in this book. I Love Lucas, even throughout the rough patches in the book. He was a constant in Axelia's life and I liked that.
Without giving too much away, I have to say this was a great book. It was full of action, vampires and romance. This book deserves five glittery stars for being a rock star read!!
I just love Wynne's books! The second book in her series was just a good as the first. Thank goodness!!! I always worry that the 2nd book won't live up to the awesomeness of the first. But I am happy to say, Wynne did not disappoint. Zee is a kick ass vamp and Lucas is as brooding and steamy as before. Yum yum. Loved it!
4 stars — Oh man, that was an epic sequel! I’m kind of sad there probably won’t be anymore in this series, because I’m curious about a few of the things that Ms. Channing set up. But at least I wasn’t left unsatisfied, I really appreciate that.
I will admit, I wanted to shake Zee for most of the Part One of this book. She is soooooo naive, it’s almost unbearable. I was questioning things left, right and center, and she’s just oblivious. It made me want to rush her revelations, because some were SO OBVIOUS!! It’s like, I LOVE Zee — I love her eternal optimism, her snark, her genuine care and concern for others. But meanwhile I’m like “don’t you realize you’re in a book?? Things are never what they seem!” That girl needs to learn a healthy dose of skepticism.
I think what made it weirder was the conclusions that Lucas came to. I kept expecting him to share his doubts with her more, but they were both hiding their feelings and making assumptions and allowing that to cloud their communication channels. UGH. I mean, I get it, but seriously…
Now saying all that, I still super enjoyed myself! These characters are pretty easy to love, even if they make choices I consider stupid. There was this huge sense of anticipation throughout the first part, because you just knew things were going to go VERY BAD. And wow, again, the action and suspense was just great! Such great fight scenes and descriptions — I mean, gruesome for sure, but it really was easy to get caught up in it.
I think one of the things that I loved about this one is how we got to know and care for more secondary characters. I ADORED San. He was just delightful, and I loved their friendship. I even enjoyed the bits with Brogan. I maintain reservation about Uther…I had a hard time trusting him since I knew he supported a side filled with corruption.
And caring about all these characters made it easy for my emotions to become involved, so there was definitely some heartbreak along the way.
I think the thing that would have elevated the star rating for me is if Zee had thought about the caste system and understood the wrongness. She never got there, and I was disappointed in that.
I loved that we got a bit more romance in this one. Still not a lot, but definitely some good kisses.
So yeah. I’m happy I finally found out what happens next, and I’m glad that it had a conclusion that wasn’t too up in the air. I’m just bummed that I will probably never know where the author planned to go next. Ah well.
Wish there was more
Great continuation of story line. No simpering heroine in this story. Glad to see Zee take her future in her own hands. Unanswered questions though, what did they plan to do with her blood? I have my ideas, but may never know. Hope she decides to right more about these characters.
gave the 1st book 5 stars, the 2nd gets 4 because it felt a bit rushed.
Vampire story with a fresh new twist on origin
Good read. With the upper hand she was gifted, I would have preferred the heroine to have handled the conflict differently.
Why:
I participated in What Kills Me Blog Tour, the first book in this series and I really enjoyed it! I liked the refreshing new take on YA PNR vampire story and that's why I couldn't pass over the chance to read and review this sequel! Plus, I really wanted to know what would have happened to Axelia and Lucas. The end of What Kills Me was amazing, another reason why I wanted to read I Am Forever.
Expectations:
I had big expectations toward I Am Forever. And maybe this is why I had some up and down with it.
The author Wynne Channing has a great and determined imagination. Reading I Am Forever was easy and I had a hard time to put it down. Even when some chapters were not what I expected to be, I was still eager to turn the page to read more. The author has some writing skills that kept me intrigued and fascinated!
I was a little disappointed by the lack of action and the slower pace of the story in the beginning, when Axelia officially becomes a divine being for the Monarchy. For several chapters I felt that the story was not moving much, although several essential elements unfolded. I also noted the virtual absence of an important figure in these chapters: Lucas. I'm a big fan of romance and although this book is a YA, the first volume was offering a future and potential love story between Axelia and Lucas. I thought I would read the evolution of this relationship much earlier in the book but also much more intensely.
What Stood Out:
The aspect surrounding the history of the Monarchy and their ancestors / gods was captivating. I really enjoyed the description of the role assumed by Axelia now that she should be a Monarchy (and all vampires) ally at her displeasure. The war between the Monarchy and the rebels will push Axelia to develop and interpret many new powers given from the gods through her transformation.
Favorite Character:
The Empress was a very enigmatic character throughout the story. The author has managed to keep me mystify with the mysterious side of this character, I ask myself repeatedly if she's good or evil, what are her true intentions. Of course, the reader will know the answer at the end of the book!
Axelia is an interesting character. I loved her evolution as a new vampire with her human emotions to a supernatural, dead divinity. She has to faces this new aspect of her life, but after all she went through in the first book, Axelia must survive not only as a new vampire but also as a deity.
The End:
I liked the end, although it could have ended in many ways. I think the author chose a conceivable, malleable and easy to adapted ending in case of a third novel. I hope so! I really want to read about the development of the relationship between Axelia and Lucas, but also on the future of all vampires in this story.
Romance: 2/5
Hotness: 0/5
I am so excited for the sequel!! Within hours of the first book ending, book two takes off with Zee in some trouble again! Zee and Lucas are still stuck within the Monarchy and she was told she will now be called The Divine. Ummm creepy right. Look this story is just as good if not better than the first, but I do recommend reading book one first, so maybe if you haven't maybe just skim this review, as I will try really hard to keep out spoilers, but it'll be hard. But Zee and Lucas have become excellent characters to follow. They have become a part of your heart :) Or mine anyways!
Zee tries to see the best in everyone, literally, and sometimes that's a bad thing. But it wouldn't be Zee if she didn't do that. She's brave, she's courageous, she's funny, she's also loyal and courteous. She's also stubborn, and hard headed and tends to not listen to Lucas when he tells her things, things that will HELP her LOL You know, like when he says, "we should go, so they can't kill us", that means we should go LOL But anyways, she's growing, just maybe not in the way most people would want her to go. You can't forget that just a short while ago, she was a naive teenage human girl.
Lucas is awesome! He's HAWT, and smart, and sweet, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect Zee. And I still am waiting for him to be mad about what happened to his family. He's a beautiful soul, and one day I hope to have one like him :) He's so loyal to Zee, that it's sometimes scary. But he's a good guy, and he's been around a bit, so we should all take heed to his advice... HINT HINT ZEE!!!
This is such a well written book. I am so thrilled that this is a great sequel which continues to unravel a wonderful story with unique vampers, yes they are still vampers! They are also back-stabbing, wretched.... nevermind, I'll hold off on that. :) But, with that in mind, there are some very interesting things that go on in this vampire monarchy. There's ceremonies, and initiations for the newer vamps, and things that are just different but in a wonderful way. Anyways, I cannot WAIT for book 3. I just know that after the first two, it's going to be a wonderful continuation to a great series. If you like Vampires, this one is for you, especially if you'd like some fresh new way of life things that go on :) a WONDERFUL, BLOODY GOOD 5 PAW SEQUEL
