I'm actually re-reading this one. I've also been going back through some of the Nameless books recently--really great stuff.
Published in 1994, this one is a standalone. It's dark and moody, and it lacks the wry humor of the Nameless books. It's a simple mystery, really: A crank caller and sexual predator is harassing certain residents of a small California university town. Who dunnit? Pronzini knows how to keep us guessing.

Shelves: suspense
I'd have sworn I read this advance years ago, while I was working at Murder Ink, but even now I can't recall having read it before. Pronzini is the husband of hard-boiled author Marcia Muller, which is why I decided all those years ago to give this book a try.
