For a long time I have allowed fear to cripple me, until April 2013. I had a vision of all the things I’ve known about fear and was told. Fear steals our confidence, fear is false evidence appearing real, and fear makes me ask questions which instill more fear. In this read Meyers shows us how to ask a different set of questions of ourselves like; what if I succeed instead of what if I fail. I listened to this book 2x and will listen again and again why you ask, well Meyer tells us when it comes to fear, just do it in FEAR. When you think about it, faith is working behind the scenes. Imagine having to speak in front of an audience of thousands for the first time. Your palms are sweaty and knees are shaking, you mind is telling you to find a way to cancel the event, but Meyer say do it in FEAR. I absolutely enjoyed this listen. If you are interested in what fear is, where it comes from and how to recognize it this is the book for you. 5 bookmarks
When I initially went to read this book, it did not resonate with me and I put it down. Fast forward four months and that all changed. I felt drawn to the book and every chapter seemed to speak to me in some way. The difference was timing - once I had stepped out into new territory in obedience to what I heard God speaking to me, new fears tried to arise and old fears tried to resurface. This book helped to put my experience into perspective. It's not that I didn't have victory over those fears in the past. It was just that I had taken steps to walking in deeper levels of faith and authority and therefore, was going to experience new attacks. I would need to gain victory over them as I had previously. We never stop having to encounter and gain victory over fear. I'm sure I will come back to this book again in the future just as I have "Battlefield of the Mind" because there will be another level of spiritual maturity that God wants me to experience. It is a journey.
God has his perfect timing for everything! I bought this like 8 years ago. I was digging through my books at the cabin and this book caught mt eye.
I am on the verge of opening up a new business and of course there are doubts and fears that creep in. But it's my choice if I let them stay. I've also battled some health issues that can make you get down, lose faith, and think negatively.
This book helps you fight fear and negativity with faith, boldness, and courage!
Feel the fear and do it anyway! God is with you. Don't let satan sideline you anymore.
I choose faith, belief, miracles, God's promises and Holy Spirit power! I hope you do too.
This is not a book to put on the shelf when you complete it. It's meant for regular review and requires action on your part.
I'm trying to start the new year off on the right foot. I've decided to listen to audio books on my 30 min (to & from) drive to work. Good narrator, excellent information & a great reminder to myself about where "fear" comes from and how to get to the root of it all. Covers different types of fear and gives scriptural references to go along with the ideas presented. I appreciate that she gets her information from the ultimate source, the Bible, and will definitely listen to her books in the future.
Love the overall theme of this book. Stepping out and replacing fear with faith to just DO IT. Sometimes we overthink and the author makes it simple. Some passages feel repetitive in principle and wording, but the message rang true and has inspired me to move forward into what feels like frightening territory. A good motivational read.
I would pick this up and read it once every 3,4,5 months and every single time I picked it up I was going through something different and every single time it spoke to exactly what I was facing! I would stay on one chapter for a long time because there was SO much I could get out of taking my time to unpack just one chapter, or even just a few pages at a time!
Lots of great info backed up by The Bible. Fantastic motivational source gearing you up in the right direction to reach your goals and overcome your fears. Glad I read it, and know I’ll do it again in the future as it includes great reminders for Christians. Totally recommend.
I didn’t love this book - it seemed fairly contradictory from one chapter to the next. I also don’t like when Bible verses are modernly interpreted using parentheses, either use the modern version of the verse or leave it the way it is.
Great book about taking risks, letting faith rule our life instead of fear. I liked goodbye letter to fear, part 2 explained different types of fear and how to overcome it. Butterfly story was insightful. “Analysis paralysis” helpful
This book was very influential to my life. It seemed the have the right chapter come up for the things I needed to fix in my life. I really appreciated this book and I hope to read more by her. :)
This book delivered exactly what I was looking for. It pointed to many scriptures regarding fear and anxiety and gave practical, helpful advice on how to overcome these obstacles.
I went into this book thinking I had no fear issues. Boy was I wrong. This booked encouraged me more. I also enjoyed that she named a lot of fears and what scripture used to combat those fears.
A great book for everyone. It’s broad in scope, but flows very well and is written well so that the impactful, biblically-based revelations easy to digest. Joyce Meyer has a gift for that.
Helped me navigate the anxiety and depressive feelings back in 2017. Will always appreciate the fact that God placed this book in my path. A blessing to read.
Excellent book if you want to overcome your fears. Joyce did an excellent job incorporating both scripture and practical stories to explain how we can overcome our fears. It is worth the read!
This had some good points in it, but I'm not a fan of her personally. Disagreeing on some major doctrinal issues kind of distracts from the point of the book (audio book)
Living Courageously by Joyce Meyer is a very highly recommended book that encourages us on the path to live a victorious and courageous Christian life.
The complete title of Living Courageously: You Can Face Anything, Just Do It Afraid explains the basis for this sure-to-be-a-best-seller by Joyce Meyer. She points out that God has promised to go before us and bring us through life victoriously as we obey Him, so we should be living boldly instead of fearfully. Even though we are free, that doesn’t mean that we will never experience or be confronted by fear. It does mean that we do not need to allow it to rule our lives, and if we have to do or face something we fear, we can do it afraid, knowing God goes before us.
Meyer correctly points out that the inherent nature of God is that He is good, He is good all the time, and He will work all things together for our good. We need to live out lives in a positive manner. It is time for us to seriously consider everything that God is doing to protect, provide and help us - our every breath is a gift from God.
The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 gives the reader an "understanding of what fear is, where it comes from, what your attitude toward it should be, and how you can overcome it." Part 2 discusses some of the more prominent fears that people experience. Even though your specific fear may not be discussed, Meyer provides the key to the tools you need to defeat it. "The best attitude you can have toward fear is, 'I will not fear, and I will do what I need or want to do even if I have to do it afraid!'"
Meyer has a down to earth, conversational style of writing that is easy to follow and understand which makes her teaching very accessible to many people. She shares with candor and honesty several painful, emotional times where fear has ruled her life, but is clear to also credit God for helping her overcome her fear. Meyer is a wonderful teacher and backs up her every thought with scripture. This will be a great resource for a group Bible study.

LOVE this book. It has really encouraged me to not fear so much. I actually will say things out loud to myself when I’m headed to do something that makes me nervous even. I’m strong and I can do this because God says I can. He’s my helper my hand holder and He doesn’t want me to be so scared. The devil is a liar and every time I say out loud , my God is with me doing whatever it is, I’m heaping coals on that liars head :) thanks to Joyce for showing me to do it afraid because God is right there!!
A few years ago, a friend of mine introduced me to the ministry of Joyce Meyer. In addition to standing room only venues throughout the world, Meyer's ministry includes an arsenal of TV shows, radio broadcasts, internet presence, daily devotionals, CDs, books and more. In fact Joyce's show Enjoying Everyday Life airs every single day and in some areas the show airs 2-3 times a day. Meyer is a powerhouse of practical wisdom and scriptural reference. I guess that combination of practicality and scripture references is one of the reasons I enjoy her ministry and reading her books. Check out my review of her latest book Living Courageously.
