Things I liked:
I liked the cover; it was what initially drew me to the book. I liked the plot, I’m a sucker for a second-chance storyline. I liked Iris, I liked that she was strong and wasn’t letting gossip get her down. Even though Iris is upset with Lord Dersingham, she is having to rescue him from sticky situations. I liked Lord Dersingham, although I think his character could have been developed a bit more. I liked the story, but was sad it was so short.

Things I didn’t like:

I want to preface my review by saying that I have never read a book by Ranee S. Clark. When I started A Contemptible Affection I was immediately transported from my world to Iris's world. It was easy to read this regency story and the writing flowed effortlessly. Although a short story, the characters were well developed, so much that I felt like hitting Iree over the head a few times and telling her to wake up! But alas, women are fickle and have memories that never forget! Iree's journey to fi ...more

Ratin: 2.5 stars.

This was a clean regency novella that unfortunately I just could not get into. I had to re-read many paragraphs constantly, especially during the first part of the story. I was getting confused as to who was who. I must that I had been feeling tired on most of the evenings when I tried to read this book so maybe I was not in the right frame of mind to enjoy it. I think I'll give it another chance and re-read it in the future in one sitting just to see if I enjoy it b

I did not like any of the characters in this novella so that made it difficult for me to enjoy this book. I have read other books by Ms. Clark and recommend you try some of the others.

During her early years of reading, Ranee` S. Clark devoured fantasy books, which continued into her adulthood—since she often believes that a well-written romance novel is a delightful fantasy. Though raising three boys can sometimes hamper both romance with her own Mr. Charming and her writing, she tries to get a little of both in every day. And most of the time she succeeds. ...more
