this book saved my dissertation. without it, i would have had to have done way too much theoretical work in a field that is not my primary field of study. this book brings together the SIT and social cognitive approaches into a somewhat integrated framework. this is quite an accomplishment because they seemed, for quite some time, to be mutually exclusive. However, the authors of this volume show that they are in many ways compatible--and where they differ, each can learn from the other.
In a way, this volume attempts to generate an integrated theory of social cognition. It's like the string/m theory of social psychology.
