1192 A.D. - Sir Roane de Garr is a member of St. John the Baptist Hospitaller sect and while visiting the supposed Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, he is hit by a freak bolt of lightning and suddenly finds himself with miraculous healing powers. The Hospitallers believe he is a heretic and must be destroyed, so he flees back to England and into seclusion as a bounty is put on his head.
Enter Lady Alisanne de Soulant, a young lady who is losing her sight to a disease of the eyes. Forced by bounty hunters hired by the Hospitallers to lure Roane out of hiding, she finds herself torn between saving Roane’s life and the life of her father, whom the bounty hunters hold hostage in order to insure her cooperation. After she helps the bounty hunters capture Roane, she helps him escape, only to find herself captured and punished by the bountymen. Those who seek to collect a price on Roane’s head realize he is in love with the woman they used as bait and they use her again to lure him back out of hiding. Roane is given the choice between saving Alisanne or her father, knowing whoever he does not rescue first will surely die at the hands of the evil bounty hunters.
Clearly Roane’s heart is with Alisanne, but he fears she will resent him for leaving her elderly father at the mercy of the bountymen. Of course, he’s being sought by the bountymen too and must evade capture even as he attempts to rescue the other two. Only Roane’s cunning and intelligence can save all three of them, but in a nasty twist of fate, he ends up the bountymen's quarry. When Alisanne and her father attempt to save him, Alisanne's father is captured as well.
Hope seems lost. With both of the men she loves captured, now it is up to Alisanne with her failing sight to save them both from the executioner's sword. Can she find the help she needs, and the courage deep within her, before it's too late?

Juggernaut Indie author Kathryn Le Veque is a 'tour de force' in publishing.
Kathryn is a critically acclaimed 21-time USA TODAY Bestselling author, a charter Amazon All-Star author, an Indie Reader top seller, and a #1 bestselling, award-winning, multi-published author in Medieval Historical Romance with over 100 published novels.
Among her many accomplishments, she is the CEO of Dragonblade Publishing, the #1 Historical Romance e-book publisher on Amazon. In 2020, Kathryn collaborated with Sourcebooks publishing for a Medieval Fight Club series set in Scotland.
I accidentally got this book on Amazon (mistaking it for a SF book of the same title). I like historic romance novels so I decided to give it a try. It's horrible. My biggest pet peeve in romance books is when two people fall in love as soon as they meet. It's just ridiculous. The couple in this book meet once, then decide they are in love and a week later they decide to get married. It's just really stupid.
Another problem I have is the phrasing used in the book. At one point the bad guy says to the heroine "I'm going to hump you like a rabbit and then hump you some more" (seriously, it says that). Pretty sure that "I want to hump you" wasn't a phrase used in medieval England.
Also around the time the "humping conversation"takes place this happens: The hero who is mortally wounded and unconscious for 8 days finally wakes up. Hero and heroine discuss escaping as soon as he is able to well enough to get up. Then, later the same day, this guy manages to take the virginity of the heroine and when they are done the books says something like "he could barely help her on with her shoes he was in so much pain" - SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!? He can't put on her shoes but he can manage to "hump her" (lol). After that crock of crap, I couldn't keep reading anymore.
Meanwhile, he gets captured, she fees him, she gets captured, he frees her, she gets captured, he gets captured, they plan to escape together. I kid you not - this is the plot for the first 40% of the book. STUUUUUPID. I have no idea how it is getting so many good reviews.
I loved that I had never heard of the order of the Hospitallers and that they were like priests with their own Knights and their own laws. They were in Jerusalem durring the crusades and followed what their priests said even if they felt it might not be the right thing to do . I didn't like that the Author kept some things hidden until almost close to the end of the the book. Of course I may have read it to fast and missed it.
Not the usual excellent writing from Kathryn le Veque. The beginning was choppy and not smooth like most of her writing. The editing had errors with she instead of he, wrong person’s name that made it confusing and the usual errors we always find in ebooks. ‼️Really, why are there so many “typos” in ebooks‼️ I agree with other reviewers that some of the slang was too modern. I enjoyed the story itself and it would easily be 5 stars with a little improvement.
Sir Roane de Garr & Lady Alisanne de Soulant fought hard to be together. He was accused of heresy & witchcraft due to a miracle healing he had accomplished on a fellow Hospitaler knight and she was afflicted with a terrible eye malady that seemed to be slowly robbing her of sight. There is magic in this story and too many coincidences to count. Excellent story!
Take just a short time to read this very interesting love story. While reading this and having read about the Hospitaler knights the story is believable holding interest till the end.
Great reading, good characters , glad this book was finally released. Enjoyed all the things in the way of their happiness and how they over came them.
The story line was fascinating and held my attention with the result of not getting much sleep until I came to the end of the book. A really unique book.
So glad the author bright the healing preps into this book love those, would have likes to have seen the characters survive except for the bounty hunter of course
Once again, Kathryn has managed to take the realm of historical romance and dominate it with her heroes that are large in both stature and heart. On top of that we are given a heroine that is not only beautiful, but strong in character, willing to do anything to save her family. I love Kathryn’s tragic heroes and Roane is no different. A hunted knight who has been living as a hermit to remove himself from society, but who has great loyalty and capacity to love is the perfect hero. Alisanne was also the perfect heroine. Petite, beautiful, but strong willed, she faced perils and adventures to first save her father and then later to save her love, Roane. Kathryn says that this book has an element of paranormal to it, but isn’t love the ultimate “paranormal”. Love is the powerful unseen force in the world that can make mortal men achieve great accomplishments and allow women to be stronger than they ever believed possible. Lord of Light is not as long as some of Kathryn’s other novels, so it makes for an easy read. If you love her writing, you will love this book. If you have never read Kathryn’s work, then this is the perfect start.
This is a wonderful book about not only romance but the gifts we are given or we give. I believe we all have something inside of us that is special...it could the gift a surgeon has with his hands...or the person that walks into a room like a ray of sunshine to brighten people days...or the ability of one person to tell amazing stories. In this case Kathryn Le Veque is that person and this time she gives us a story of man that I BELIEVE was given a gift of healing. But he could only heal through love...pure honest true love. I don't want to go majorly into depth since that has already been done in previous reviews. Sometimes all a potential reader needs is a tiny little nudge to become interested and jump into a story. Here is your nudge people!! Pick this little gem up! Its a great quick read that will uplift your day.
A very good gothic romance that I just ate up. It was that good.
I loved the disgraced Hospitaller knight Roane de Garr and I fell in love with Lady Alisanne Soulant who is losing her eyesight.
Their meeting is not a good one and I immediately felt for both characters. In just a bit, though, I wanted to smack Alisanne for betraying Roane. Never fear, though, she hates what she has done and so she decides she must save Roane.
The love scenes are tasteful, and mild, and this is a bona fide romance not smut.
The author describes a lush yet filthy world, and her words drag you right into it.
Lord of Light grabbed my soul and held it enthralled throughout. In my opinion it is a story of disillusions, misconceived perceptions, doubt, conformity, faith, sincere and powerful love and hope. Sir Roane de Garr and Lady Alisanne de Soulant story is a masterpiece. Sir Roane has been continually tested and Lady Alisanne's fortitude as well. This story really touched my soul. Kathryn Le Veque does it again. I just love her stories.
this is another book to bring the de Garr and de lohr history full circle. Le Veque always gives you action packed thrillers! I was squeezing his neck and not letting go too (darn it)! Oh man...and the beating that was so well deserved..she have you swinging too....lol! luv this author!!!
This was an awesome book. I couldn't put it down. It does have some paranormal aspect to it but I don't think that "that" is the book. There were point's in the book when I wanted to walk into it and slap a few people around. This tells me that the book had me so engrossed in the book that I felt like I was there. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. You will love this book and both H/H.
Storyline was a good one but for me the book was rough going. This may probably just be the author's style and I may need to read some more of her work to gain a better appreciation.
I am glad to see a bit of paranormal included in this story! It seems to me if you had a chance to actually be in the tomb of Christ, you should have some special gift or talent! Exciting story and it links some family groups. Nice read!
I love these kind of stories. Supernatural powers from getting struck by lightning and a damsel in distress. It was very good. Also I thought pink eye from the beginning. Lol.
This wasn't a favorite of mine mainly because it seemed short and rushed. The characters (all of them) weren't developed well nor did they hold my interest.
The storyline is a bit over the top, has some pretty blatant anachronisms and at times the plot verges on thin but I really liked the characters. This was a fun read and I enjoyed every word of it in spite of what I perceived as its numerous flaws. Just one question for the author, "What happened to Roane's dog?" ⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5
