Rabbit Hunt

Rate this book
Six college kids go into the woods to drop acid, eat mushrooms, smoke weed, commune with nature, and have sex. But they aren’t alone. There are others who have come to fill the woods with screams and vent their homicidal anger and perverse desires on whomever they find.

Mooky, Rashad, Steve, and Big Mike haven’t gone hunting together since their college days. Marriage, kids, and careers have kept them busy and left little time for hanging out with the boys. But that all changes this weekend. For the first time in years, the boys are going on a little rabbit hunt, and the woods will echo with screams.

Taking the “redneck psychopaths in the woods” trope and turning it on its head, the heavyweight of hardcore horror brings you a tale of extreme violence as only he can deliver it.

Firstly, I’m going to say, that I need to read more WJW…man, this guy can sure write a fucked up book!!
It was hella BRUTAL, gory, full of sex, rape, and torture. I disliked all of the characters, but in a good way…they were just all nasty POS.

There’s a lot of racism in this story, and it was a tad uncomfortable to read, but unfortunately, that is the world in which we live 😡 I was happy that no fluffy bunnies were hurt, only the human kind.

Loved the twist at the end!!

Highly recommended…if you’re brave enough.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Man are the tables ever turned here. I have read so many folklore stories about rednecks in the south killing and torturing unsuspecting visitors. Here though we have a group of four black men who for quasi political reasons hate white people so much that they rent a cottage in the redneck bastion to first have sex with white women and then kill them. I guess now would be a good point that my review may upset some people as slavery and racism is discussed as it is part of the book - a great great part.

This book is quite political and deals with racism and I get many of the points made. I always kind of joke with friends that after watching a movie where blacks are mistreated (Mississippi Burning and the like) that if I was black I just might go on a rampage killing white people. Yet here the author has interjected a black character who once took part in what is termed a rabbit hunt and could not really enjoy it or see it through the eyes of his comrades. He is kind of set up to be the hero of the story and tries to tell his black comrades that hey these current white people have nothing to do with what happened to us. He even points out that hey whites did not go into Africa and hunt blacks and bring them back to North America. It was other blacks who due to tribal reasons and such gathered up certain blacks and sold them to North Americans. Albeit though that the way the slaves were treated was just awful and sickening and as mentioned there are many many movies illustrating just that.

So on the way to the cabin our group of 4 psychos come upon six white kids and a racial exchange happens at a gas station. Again you just don't open that door with these psychos giving them in their mind justification for a killing spree and that's what they have in mind after the altercation.

So our 4 psychos go to the cabin they rented to meet up with a group of white women who are into black guys. The sex starts really quickly and is quite explicit. Yet right after the sex the torture, mutilation and eventual killing begins and ends. It is all very graphic and explicit and though some of them want to go to the kids cabin and deal with them right after they are kind of tired from all their work and decide they will do that the next day (kind of lol).

The next day the party starts again. Very graphic, very explicit with lots and lots of torture and kills. It was quite a read and captures you from the start. You kind of question how they get away with all their killings but the author Wrath James White (what an awesome name btw - Wrath) really seals the deal with a twist at the ending making it all kind of believable.

Again, this book is clearly not for everyone and I apologize if anyone is offended with me using the term black and discussing slavery and its atrocities. It is though a great part of the book and has to be part of the review imo. This was a buddy read chosen by a true master of Horror, Leeanne. What a pick she made :)

An easy four stars and I am glad to have discovered the wrath of Wrath!!

The fact this author listed many triggers should’ve been an indicator of the fact this book was going to be something horrific. This book was about 4 adults that are met in college and became friends that decide to get together for a weekend of bonding, hunting and killing. A chance meeting between these four adults and some college kids changes the course of many lives.

This book left no stone unturned I did enjoy the elements of politics and relevant topics. This book is fast paced filled with horror, graphic scenes and lots of gore. I did like the elements of humor mixed with murder in the book.

There are some scenes in this book that can make the strongest stomach turn to mush, I forgot how graphic Wrath writes his book. He truly is good story teller and I was able to get through this book quickly although short it’s definitely a great read.

This book has definitely made an impression on me and I’m sure it will on you too. Make sure you read the triggers before deciding to read this book.

4/5 Rabbit Hunt is an extreme horror or splatter punk novel. Most people who read this kind of horror know what to expect if you don’t please pay attention to the apt Trigger Warning at the beginning. The word torture porn while occasionally thrown around willy-nilly is very apt in these waters. It is brutal and graphic, sexual and violent and a lot of fun if this is your thing.

The novel is a gore soaked parody of racial hate, stereotypes, and cultural fears. The 4 big black men in this novel are out to destroy and despoil white women. It’s ridiculous, it’s raunchy, and it’s cathartic, for me anyway. Everyone spews asinine rhetoric while attempting to claim the moral high ground and being absolute trash people. Violence begetting violence. Brutality and ignorance for the sake of brutality and ignorance no apologies made.

I had fun and I squirmed. Definitely not for most people but those who enjoy hardcore horror will like it. Those who don’t will lift an eyebrow at those who do.

I've waited one week for this book. Been scouring the Internet to find a copy and asking my Reddit friends where I could purchase because it's really hard to buy this in my country. And when I got it, I didn't know, I was just too excited.

This was a lot of fun. The wait is worth it. There's blood, there's brutality—everything I ever want in a Splatterpunk book. I don't know if there's something wrong with me for reading these kind of stuff and I don't care.

The messier, the gorier, the better. If you wanna go all out, then go for Wrath James White.

Beware. You'll have nightmares after this.

A Horror Bookworm Recommendation
Rabbit Hunt by Wrath James White
https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/

For a good time of hunting, a group of friends rent a cabin in the mountain woods. Weapons of choice include bow and arrow, hatchet, machete and a five-pound sledgehammer. With the scenic views of wooded hills and beautiful lakes, the serene isolated sounds of nature are soon shattered by the warped screams of torture and murder. Welcome to Rabbit Hunt by Wrath James White.

As we begin this review, let me first say among all the great fresh talented splatterpunk/extreme authors out there, every once in a while a veteran stands up and shows us all how it’s done. Enter Wrath James White.

A warped ritual of sorts places helpless panic-stricken victims within an all too real nightmare. Wrath lays his foundation with an unsettling environment of violent conflicts and extreme abusive exploits. Add a dash of cultural prejudice and a warped sense of self-entitlement and you have a recipe for a gorifical taboo fun time. Rabbit Hunt exposes the deepest, darkest secrets of the human mind in the most tortuous of ways. I should also mention, along with the many trigger warnings, readers should be aware that it may contain gluten, dairy and nuts. It’s that volatile.

Wrath conducts his macabre symphony with a repulsive yet elegant approach. It literally awakens all five senses with a hard slap to the face. From perverted oppression to chaotic mayhem, the twists and turns in this book paves the way for some gruesome spooky shit.

In the vein of J. F. Gonzales’ Survivor and Monica J. O’Rourke’s Suffer The Flesh, Rabbit Hunt is one of those reads you just don’t forget. I’m officially ringing the Splatterpunk dinner bell for all extreme readers. Grab your copy of Rabbit Hunt today and let the begging and screaming begin. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

When I first started reading this book, I didn’t know how I felt. While it was horrific in nature, I just didn’t feel connected enough to the story to be horrified. I thought this would end up being an OK read for me but holy. Out of no where this gripped me, specially one particularly brutal scene.

I liked the themes in this novella regarding race. Though they made me at times uncomfortable, I understand that that’s very likely what Wrath was trying to do. Unfortunately hate begets hate in this life and there is a lot of it. He did a good job at expressing that within the characters while writing something terrifyingly extreme and vicious. Overall, I really ended up enjoying this.

A different take on some fun horror tropes like Slashers and Cabins in the Woods. Loved the crazy characters and their POV of the world, great reading a story. Gory, Ultra-Violent, and wayyyy to much fun.

Once again Wrath James White blends extreme, cringe-inducing horror with sensitive racial topics that other authors wouldn't dare touch with a 10 foot pole.

I'm happy to see that WJW is writing full-time again and I can't wait to see what he does next.

WOW!!!

Thank goodness I read one of his other books, so I felt somewhat prepared

These boys were brutal. However, I was laughing at certain scenes. How can this be so bloody and yet so funny, i was cracking up. This book made some good commentary on racism but in sick and twisted ways. They weren't heros, only in their mind.

Rashad - This man is the most delusional out of the four.  In his mind, he thinks he is not a psychopath , but a black warrior fighting back the wrongs of his people 200 years ago.

Big Mike - I commend him for not being a cheater and a rapist because he promised his wife. However, he is a brutal murderer who was the most honest one out of the four because he just likes killing, and he just can't hide it.

Mooky- This man was so funny that I almost forgot. He was brutally killing these people in cold blood. He seemed to be that friend who couldn't keep a secret, which is shocking that he haven't gotten them in problems yet.

Steve - At the beginning of this book, I actually thought steve was a cool guy, but he had blinding deadly hatred, especially at the end.

What made this book so great? Is something that happened close to the end that gave this group more justification in killing the last victims. It was a wild ride. I literally paused reading and was still thinking about it.

The victim's monologue and internal monologue while being brutally murdered are so hilarious and yet touching. Thank goodness I never felt emotionally attached to the victims even tho everyone had individual personalities.

The sad, crazy part is I still liked these 4 men.

The author notes with quotes about the destruction of violence and hatred stayed with me

"Rabbit Hunt" by Wrath James White is a gripping horror novel that not only delivers bloody horror but also delves into thought-provoking political themes. The story follows a group of friends on a “hunting trip.”

The group of friends, led by the protagonist, sets out on a hunting trip to escape the pressures of daily life. However, their peaceful retreat quickly descends into chaos when they meet some lovely “rabbits.” Tensions rise and secrets are revealed, leading to a harrowing climax that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

White's writing is raw and intense, drawing readers into a world of terror and suspense. As the characters navigate the dangers of the woods, the novel subtly explores political power dynamics and societal issues, adding depth to the narrative.

While "Rabbit Hunt" is not for the faint of heart, with its graphic violence and chilling atmosphere, it offers a compelling blend of horror and political commentary. White's ability to intertwine these elements makes the book a must-read for those seeking a spine-tingling experience with a thought-provoking twist.

I should of know going into this that it was not about hunting fluffy little cute rabbits. Please take the Trigger Warning!!! seriously before you dive into this. Wrath lists a slew of them! Not only is this one gory and bloody but racial as well. As a woman who has married and still dates a black man, I understood the "Racial" parts of this book from both sides of the looking glass. So.....If your easily offended about race or politics, you might want to skip this one.

Now for the story..............."Okay, motherfuckers. Let's dance!"

"Rashad, Mooky, Steve, and Big Mike himself weren't really doing any of this to make a political statement. That was all bullshit. They were all doing it because they shared a mutual paraphilia, a mutual psychosis, a mutual sickness."

I loved Mooky!! Damn it Wrath......It always happens to the ones I like. These four friends are brutal as fuck. A mutual sickness is putting it mildly. Their taste for blood and violence is off the charts. Big Mike and his hammer will give you all the blood and gore that we crave from Wrath.

Was this my favorite by Wrath? No. For me, it's a little too heavy on the racial and political side but the story was fun. Wrath's writing and storytelling, as always, is superb. The killings were brutal. And you get a nice little twist at the end. The end left me asking will there be another one??? Hmmmmm........

Happy Reading and Splatter On.....

WOW. This was a fantastic splatterpunk adventure with a surprising amount of substance, racial angst, and guts. I found myself laughing aloud at some of the interactions with our main characters and how they dealt with certain hypocrisies and wrestled (or didn't wrestle) morally with their bunny-hunt. I also laughed aloud at some of the "I said it with an 'a' not an 'er!" stuff because, frankly, I know some of the insensitive idiots who would populate this book if it were a real scenario.

Wrath James White writes phenomenal dialogue and really has a way with words and anatomy. He has a clear understanding of how the human body works and I found that very refreshing. I've only read one other WJW book before and they both just go to show his work is consistently amazing.

4.5 stars rounded up.

An interesting read, but it felt a bit clumsily written. Scenes were frequently interrupted with exposition about side character’s backstories in a way that disrupted the shock of the action scenes, and it almost felt like the author wasn’t sure how to communicate what he was trying to say. It felt a little too all over the place for me to truly enjoy it, and there were several typos in the ebook that made me feel like it was more of a first pass than a final product. All in all, with some editing and polishing I feel like this could’ve been a 3/3.5 star read for me, but it was just too disorganized.

Depraved, political, not one redeemable character in the book. Full of sexual violence, racism and debauchery. Doesn't offer anything new to the extreme horror genre, but it's short and packs a punch all the same.

Big Mike is itching to go rabbit hunting with his boys. In college, they went all the time, but now as adults, they haven't found the time to hunt. They decide to rent a cabin for the weekend and have some fun. They know of a group of white women who obsess over black men. They hate it and want to show them exactly how they feel.

They make a stop at a gas station and are confronted with a group of friends. They exchange some not so nice words and leave Big Mike and the boys with a sour taste in their mouths. This weekend just got that much more exciting. The boys are ready to hunt!

This was much more than just an extreme read. This had a deeper meaning behind it. Aside from the violence and depravity, this touched very heavily on racial topics. If they made you uncomfortable, good! They should because the truth hits differently. The gore and violence were delicious as always. Oh, Miss Emily! I'll never look at a juicer the same. I enjoyed the brotherhood between the guys! Be careful the next time you stay at a cabin!

Wrath really killed it with this one! (Pun intended) 🐰

Wrath James White is a master at balancing extreme violence, gore, and sex with important social commentary. He is and always will be one of the most important writers in the Splatterpunk genre. He always includes a variety of characters of all races but I find it so important that he doesn’t write his BIPOC characters in a way that only shows Black suffering or stereotypes. We are not a monolith and there’s so many things Black folks can do and be and he displays it in a way that is not only engaging but will make you think critically about what you’ve just consumed, by the end of every story I’ve read of his thus far, this rings true.

To say I am a fan is an understatement and as a Black woman that loves to read this specific genre, I feel at home and not so alone seeing Wrath and many other Black/POC authors doing the damn thing in a mostly cis male Caucasian dominated space.

(Hopefully this is coherent as I’m writing this review at 3:49 A.M. lol)

check triggers and put your fucking thinking cap on, y’all.

Happy hunting!!!

I'm a huge fan of Wraths writing! This book did not disappoint! I love when he writes about POC kicking ssa! I loved the characters in this book. He did an amazing job describing them so you could picture them in your head. These main characters kicked butt and held no punches! This definitely isn't your typical Rabbit Hunt! Wrath James White's 'Rabbit Hunt' is an extreme horror novella, obviously written by a master of the genre. The writing alone, as usual with Wrath, is an enticement to keep going, though the book's more than simply style: there are some very deep themes here, touched upon in passing, but this will probably be divisive for some people. Things like race, abuse of power, political corruption, historical resentment, come up with an urgency that goes beyond the characters and the plot; sometimes they even overshadow the killings, and those are, well, quite brutal and inventive. The book is also brimming with (dark) humor and intelligence. Not one line is wasted, the dialogue feeling so natural, that when the main characters grouse about age- and body-related themes, I couldn't help but chuckle along in commiseration. As a long-time extreme horror fan, I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did: there were lots of details that pleased me immensely and which I appreciated a lot. It reminded me of some older "splatterpunk" works. The book offers some sliver of hope to us extreme horror readers that people who pick up this book will realize how important the genre can be for articulating openly the unspoken.
