Years ago, when my husband and I were young and had time for such things, we used to enjoy something called Good Wine/Bad Movie night. It was exactly as the name implies. We would take turns picking out a good bottle of wine and a bad movie. The idea being the better the wine was, the worse the movie could be. We had a lot of fun on such nights. You couldn't take the drack we were watching seriously (serious B grade sci-fi was a favourite), but when paired with high quality alcohol you would hav ...more

Fun and Fast Paced Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance

Dark Indiscretions is a fun read, containing a fresh take on the world of supernatural beings. Although it contains some dark themes, it is also full of humour, feisty females, alpha males and characters whom the reader grows to love despite their many flaws. Due to the inclusion of some hot love making, including m/m scenes, the book is an adult read.

In Dark Indiscretions supernatural beings co-exist with human kind. Jennifer Johnston, the hero

Dark Indiscretions by Shakuita Johnson is a must read for all lovers of Paranormal Romance with a healthy dose of erotica thrown in for good measure. It is also a different twist on the world of supernatural creatures. Although quite dark and bloodthirsty, there are plenty of humorous scenes to lighten the load with feisty females, horny alpha males and various characters whom this reader enjoyed despite their many flaws.
The heroine is a Mystic, a vampire and shape-shifting witch all rolled int

Ok, so truth be told I wasn't sure of this one at first. It was a little confusing at the beginning. You definitely have to be open to anything. Once the story really started to pick up and everyone met the others, it was really a great story. It was different, in a good way. Can't wait for the second one. :)

This is a story about creatures where not a single one of them is good. They are bad and worse. Mystic's are the worse, and Jenny is a Mystic. But she is not like the rest of the mystics because she doesn't want to be evil. Her daughter is closer to the natural mystic but Jenny worked hard to show her daughter that evil is a choice. But Jenny is being stocked by something sinister and yet all Jenny wants to do is find her soul mate, only to find out she has two. And there a creature that is not ...more

The author gave this book to a few people, including myself, for free in exchange for an honest review - without spoilers.
Now that the full disclosure has been given, off to the review.
This book has literally NO FLUFF. It is straight, to the point, which in turn does not allow for full character development.
It should be added, however that you should have some background knowledge into the mythological characters - ie. wolves, witches, vampires, etc. but you need to know that, for example, wer

No she wants nothing to do with her family. One day though she snaps and kills her entire family (not without cause).

This story completely took me by surprise, is not your every day paranormal read, it will sit very well with urban story lovers, it had so much content I really appreciate the author for writing with such fluidity and efficacy.
I really enjoyed the way the characters were portrayed and how the author from the very first page went straight to the point, right from the start it was action packed.

This book is about Mystics, Dylias, and Hyjias. Dylias and Hyjias have been warned about Mystics their whole lives, that they are monsters that even the monsters fear. While Dylias and Hyjias may kill, Mystics did it just for fun. Jennifer and her daughter Krista are Mystics. Jennifer is unlike any other Mystic. She only takes sips from people when she has to, to survive. She has taught Krista that just because her kind kills doesn’t mean she has to be like them. So when Krista meets her Nyhiyas ...more

I was given this book by PRATR for an honest review. I enjoyed this, I did, but I was in two minds about the 4 fangs for a reason, that I'll explain in a mo. What I liked about it, was, the SPEED that this book moves at! it gets going, right from the first page, and then runs, and runs and you gotta run with it to keep up!! Set only over a few days, except the bits in 1625, we meet Jennifer, a Mystic. Mystics have a nasty reputation, but Jennifer isn't quite like the rest of

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book takes some getting used to. It has a lot of new terminology (creatureology) that I simply didn't understand. A Mystic, for example, is part vampyra, which is a shape-shifting witch. Then there are also Nyhiya, the term used for soul mate or your one true love and the Hyjia, explained as human cat-like hybrids. These creatures are all called 'the tarnished' by Mooyers (humans who hunts and kills them).
At the end of the book

This is the fast-paced tale of Jennifer Johnston, a Mystic (that's a part vampire, part shape-shifting witch to you and me). Now Mystics have a bad reputation and for the most part, that's well deserved. Jennifer, however, is the anomaly. She's the one who doesn't want to be bad, who has gotten on with her life and is doing just dandy. That is until her daughter finds her mates.

I liked the idea of this book but have to say that I had some problems with it in reality. The thing for me is that the

Fierce women and their fierce men….This is not for the faint of heart. Very explicit scenes (sex, violence, and strong language). If you want cute and sweet, this is not for you. This is a new twist to our paranormal world. There are Mystics that are vampyra, shape shifting hybrids, Dylias that are shape shifting wolves, Hyjias are human-cat like hybrids, and Mooyers that are the humans who know about the paranormal world.

We are introduced to Jenny, a badass mystic. In her past she had to do an

Jennifer Johnston is a Mystic, part of a deadly group of supernatural that are considered the boogie men to the other races. Mates, Jackson Dawls and Taylor Durham are the betas of their wolf pack. Imagine their surprise when they discover they have an additional mate, of a species they were told to stay away from since childhood. Strange things are happening, and Jennifer is being stalked. She's always wanted her mate but after so long didn't think it would ever happen, and now that it has it's come at the worst possible time. With her past coming back to haunt her Jennifer has to find a way to keep everyone safe, and time is short to figure everything out.

Dark Indiscretions is a fast-paced and entertaining paranormal novel. Even though Jenny and her daughter Krista find their mates, it's not really a romance. It's more of an action novel with a couple of good sex scenes thrown in and the mating scene between Jenny and her mates was hot! The book is heavy on the dialogue and the characters' inner thoughts, a feat which Ms. Johnson pulled off well, as I never once got confused as to who was speaking or thinking. An Epic Masterpiece...and this is only the first book in the series!!!

Shakuita Johnson has created a world that I do not want to leave!!! The story that she has created is EPIC!!! The story of Jennifer Johnston is one that I found myself getting lost in and I was so sad when the story ended. I cannot wait to get lost in the next book in this series. This book is dark, twisted, and filled with enough family drama to make you want to move to a private island and never deal with anyone..EVER AGAIN.

I have mixed feelings about Dark Indiscretions. The main character is Jennifer Johnston and when you first start reading you feel bad for her. I thought there were a lot of good characters in the story but I feel like their personalities were not as good as they could have been. I fee

I liked the overall story presented by Shakuita Johnson. However, I did find the beginning a bit confusing to completely sort out with the vast number of characters and stories to start. Jenny does get presented as a woman who has something to prove and wants to do things her way.
