This is a fascinating story of the American satellite program leading up to the first satellite launches. Clarke has a wonderful writing style and a very clear way of explaining scientific subjects so they are easy to understand. I love Clarke's enthusiasm for the possibilities of satellites and even of space travel, and I find it amazing how many of the changes that he predicted have occurred as a result of satellites. Arthur Charles Clarke was one of the most important and influential figures in 20th century science fiction. He spent the first half of his life in England, where he served in World War Two as a radar operator, before emigrating to Ceylon in 1956. He is best known for the novel and movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which he co-created with the assistance of Stanley Kubrick.
