Destroyer finds Zed saying goodbye to one friend and pressing forward with two new ones to whom we are introduced in Book 2 – Infected. Mandi, whom Zed and Murphy rescued from the bunker, is immune to the virus. Russell, whose home the others plundered in search of food and other supplies, is also a slow burn, but lower-functioning, childlike and docile.

Dear Bobby Adair, this is a request for Book 4. You know the person you shot at the end of Book 3? Uncool .. we need that person to LIVE. So how's about you let them live and bring the pain to the fuckers who shot him/her. :-) K? K. I cannot WAIT until Book 4 is here. So many times I wanted to put the book down, only because I couldn't bear to see one of the characters killed off or hurt (which ended up happening.. bad bad bad). Mr. Adair does a freaking awesome job of keeping you on your toes a ...more

As with most other post apocalyptic books, the obvious threat is what is actively trying to eat you, the less obvious, but sometimes more deadly threat is made up by the other survivors. This book starts on a pretty graphic note, and that same heaviness plays through many of the chapters. The decisions we have to make as people, both for our personal safety and for the safety of those we've grown attached to, be it family or other survivors, is a human theme I've always liked and is a more centr ...more

The third book in the Slow Burn series, finds Zed and Murphy continuing to evade the infected and non-infected who wish them harm. They have been joined by other survivors and look to find someplace safe, where they can wait out coming events.

It's nice seeing the friendship of the lead characters continue to grow and see Zed coming to terms with some of the issues he has struggled with even before the outbreak. Adair has developed two characters that we can sympathize with, even when they do thi

I read this as part of the parts 1-3 box set and left a review there, but felt I needed to leave a review for the book on its own, as well. I really can't say enough just how in love with this series I am. So much happened in book 3 that left my heart aching and wanting more. I can't wait to pick up the next one!!! Brilliant characters and story. Absolutely brilliant.

This series actually gets better as it goes. While I enjoyed books one and two, I adore the level of character and story development that occours as it continues. I enjoy the twists and disturbing direction this "end times" seies is heading in and cannot wait to read more.

I found this series of Indie books at Amazon for free and figured, what the hell, zombie drivel but the price is right. Each book actually grasped my attention with mildly interesting characters and a reasonably interesting plot. As well, each book in succession seemed to advance the characters and subplots to hold my interest. My original intention was to use these books as pure escape, quick summer reads. Imagine my surprise when I finished the third book in the series and, rather than move on ...more

I'm addicted...

Third book of the series in 24 hours. I guess you guys think I don't have job. Or a life.

Thing is, I do. Have both, that is.

But these books and these characters are just so damned addictive, I can't stop.

If you want zombies, end of the world overwhelm, gripping action and lots of real life blood, gore and appropriate swearing, read this series.

Extra star for this book because one of the characters needed to take a crap.

Like I said, it took me a few pages to get into this story but once I did I could not stop reading.

This was a more emotional book than the rest in the series but still full of actions etc.

The story continues on. A good apocalypse yarn that is character based rather than unnecessary bloodfest.

Awesome

The main character takes reckless action to try to save people and is coming slowly to the realization that it's true that you can't save everyone. That happens a lot to zombie survivors, I think.

He can't quite grasp that everyone makes mistakes. Of course in the world with zombie hordes, mistakes routinely get people killed. As self-destructive as the main character is, you can see his pain and his baggage. I sometimes imagine myself making the same mistakes in those situations and it be

It's the End of the World! A epidemic has spread over the country that re-animates the dead - and, you've heard this tale before, right? This series is interesting because the protagonist is one of the infected - but he's a 'slow burn' - that is, the infection hasn't completely destroyed his intellect, at least so far. It's an interesting angle on a genre that has been done to death, and it is also fairly well written.

I purchased the first three volumes of this series as a bundle and will leave

Book 3 still had the punch of the first 2... did feel sorry for Zed, lost one girl that he was attracted to ( whom he still wants to avenge) then on his way to hospital to check on Stephanie ( and was beginning to actually like her as well ) only to find out once at hospital that she has a fiance....WOW, double punch on the love scale. But since since he was exposed to the virus by getting bit and turned into a " Slow Burn", Zed has had a much different outlook on life.

So now we are into book three. If you haven't read the other two I highly suggest you read them so you know what is going on. We are slowly seeing that the zombies or "whities" as they are becoming known as are acting very weird. They are starting to run around in a line but not quite following anyone.
Zed has left Murphy and the girl they rescued back in the bunker so he could find out what happened to Step the nurse that told him to call when it was safe. It seems that others in the hospital a

I listened to the audiobook version of this and still detest the narrators female voices. They haven't gotten any better (although they are consistent for each female, I do have to give him that) and there are more of them. And in case you haven't read my previous reviews, I don't hold the awful opposite gender voices against him much because they have to be hard to pull off well.

Things are starting to settle down, at least to the new normal. There is still great danger, but the characters are l

I've enjoyed following Zed and the others on their journey from book one. The characters are realistic and show the different ways people would react to a crisis. The concept of someone who's not-quite-zombie is an interesting one, particularly for the protagonist. I also enjoyed the introduction of new behavior in the infected, allowing for differences from typical zombie-fare.

On the con side, I did notice a formatting issue where, for a page and a half, the font changed, making me think that t

I just finished book 3 of Slow Burn and all I can say is OMG!!! Books 1 and 2 were great but this book is awesome. As a reader of anything zombie I have to say this is definitely one of the best series I've read in a long time. This series tells the stories of the survivors of a horrible viral sickness that takes over the world. Infecting everyone. A few are immune and others get sick but after a few days of unconsciousness they recover their humanity to different degrees. Some come all or most

If you start reading Book 3 of the Slow Burn series before reading the other ones, better read the others first. You will be missing out on a lot of good reading if you do. These book are excellent!

Zed and his buddies keep adding to their little troop but not with out a lot of fighting, ass kicking, violence and gore to get there. You know, the usual. And each time Zed and his friends engage the Whites you know there will be some action and there is plenty of that. Just when they think they have

Book 3 in the SLOW BURN series continues the trend of tense, engaging stories. Zed and Murphy spent the first two books adapting to their new world and scavenging, running from place to place with infected hot on their heels. In DESTROYER, our heroes start to put down roots in an interesting haven, and throw in with new characters that create an interesting group dynamic. The most interesting new wrinkle is the introduction of "smart ones," zombies able to devise and execute plans of attack rath ...more

4 Platypires for Slow Burn : Destroyer by Bobby Adair

Damn, this was an addicting read. Very fast passed which I truly enjoyed and pretty much non-stop action. I was very much entertain with this installment in the Slow Burn series.
It's great to see the characters come together and see them grow. Murphy is showing he might actually care for people and want to see them survive. While Zed is toning down on his philosophy monologues and might be the luckiest SOB in the zombie apocalypse. The stunt

And you know what? I don't think the word "zombie" is mentioned once in the book. There is a virus and some are immune, some are Slow Burns and some are "Whites". The rest of humanity is dead. Very good book. Amazing, tense action, believable characters, somewhat complex “hero” and wonderfully sick and disturbing descriptions of the “apocalypse”. The writing is also much stronger in this 3rd book. The series keeps getting better and better. It feels “alive” and threatening and the stakes are higher than ever, because the author makes us care about the characters, the secret of a successful book in this genre. Well done! Shame about the cliffhanger but the writer has to pay the bills a ...more

Although I loved all of them so far, I preferred this third installment to the second one. It felt more complete and less an in between book.

I have to admit that the beginning was a bit confusing with the pursuits and all but after that, oh my, I just couldn't put it down.

This one ends with a little cliffhanger but hey, the next was already out so, who cares?! :P
If you loved the first two, you'll loved this one no question about it.

I bought Slow Burn #3 and #4 as a bundle for a 20% discount on Amazon. I just finished book #3 and it broke my heart!! These are definitely shorter "books" and could probably be consolidated into one book but that doesn't bother me. That being said the author is clearly stopping the books at certain points with the knowledge that other books will follow.

The story line is progressing at a good pace and it hasn't gotten boring or redundant. On to Slow Burn #4!

I've just finished 1,2+3 in one go and as they're not very long, they were a good read. I don't think I would have got myself involved if I'd only bought no1. As it is I've downloaded no 4 too... I like the story and I like the characters enough to be interested in how it goes. As far as a zombie book goes, I think the story follows a fairly logic path and what they say and do makes sense. I hope no 4 is going to live up to my expectations!

The structure of this book is a definite improvement over the second book; there is less philosophizing and more non-stop action. I'm interested in discovering what sorts of new emergent behavior appear now that there are "smart ones" that are figuring out how to control all of the infected. It is pretty amazing how many safe houses/bunkers etc there are in the Austin area, although it's nice that the gang has found a relatively decent one with more options on the horizon.

A bio is a weird thing to write.

Just trying to imagine presenting the highlights of ME sets off alarm bells in my head. Why would anybody want to know anything about me? What about me is remarkable enough to tell?

When I think about these questions, I recall lying on my bed back in high school, headphones muffed over my ears, heavy metal blasting through my head. As with most teens, music’s power
