Six months ago I baited a sinfully handsome but wickedly dangerous man.
He didn’t bite.
I wanted to work for his company. Desperately. Did all I could to prove my worth and plead my case.
To no avail.
Until the night I come home to find his card on my kitchen counter.
What follows is a game of cat and mouse that leaves me afraid and excited and even more attracted to the grumpy, silver fox mercenary who’s occupied my mind for months.
When we finally come face to face it’s toe-curlingly combustive. Vincent runs just as hot as I do and it’s not long before I discover what happens when a man like him decides you’re his.
He possesses you.
Wants every inch of your body and soul—and I’m happy to hand it all over.
But when someone tries to take me away, they find out what happens when you cross a man like him.

Command and Control is a complete standalone set in the world of Alaskan Security. You do not need to have read any of the other books to enjoy this story to the fullest.

Vincent is…WOW. He’s got so many layers. He’s cold as ice to hide the tender heart beneath it all, but I have a feeling that some in his employ already see through him. And the woman who tried to get a job with him? Yeah, she brings him to his knees. And then some.

Julieanne is the perfect fit for Vincent. She’s smart, funny, confident in herself (and she knows it took a lot of unlearning to get there, which makes me love her more), and the one woman who can shatter the ice Vincent hides behind. Sure, he pretends it isn’t love. It’s anger. Totally anger, right? It’s funny how he tries to fool himself even when he knows full well it’s bs. But that also makes me adore him more. For a guy who claims no feelings, he’s shown a lot of them in this series. But you’re not expecting the sheer amount and strength of those feelings.

Even when he has to reach out to someone he figured he’s burned all bridges with, that person immediately acts to have his back. And in their stubborn man way, they rebuild. Vincent even realizes that he does have friends. And he certainly has love. I’m pretty sure we’ll see more of a few people with GHOST, and I also would love more of Julianne and her kids along with it. I can’t wait to find out if they have stories to share also.

I went into this book cold - I'd never read anything by this author before and now I'm kicking myself! This book was...HAWT! The MC's were my age. They've had a life - they've loved, lost, adjusted dream and expectations and keep on kicking.

Vincent is gruff, tough, grouchy and a martinet. His crew work hard for him and he thinks he's losing control 'cos they call him by his first name! He is all arrogance, alpha male, take charge with a dark and dominating streak.

Julieanne is divorced, a mother of two and an extraordinary hacker. She wants to work for the best and she's not above sabotage to get the attention she knows she deserves. She knows what she wants out of life and love. She thought her fantasy Vincent was scorching...then she got to taste the real deal!

Vincent is over the top in everything he does - it'd drive me mad in real life but it's perfectly acceptable in BBF. Julieanne is determined, adventurous, bold and will do anything for those she loves. This woman may not be a warrior by training but she can hold her own against any of Vincent's guys!

The cat/mouse, voyeur/exhibitionist scenes between these two will make you laugh out loud and fan yourself at the same time.

I will happily immerse myself back in this world anytime!

I knew Vincent would be hot, but this was definitely next level. He’s fierce, strong, so do alpha, and a complete badass. Julieanne seemed soft and sweet, but we quickly learned that she is his perfect match. This story was fast paced and easy to read, and I read it much faster than anticipated. I’m SO glad Vincent got a story!

DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If I could give this more than five stars, I would! Alaskan Security is my favorite series, ever! And I’m so looking forward to reading more about the other teams at Alaskan Security, and GHOST! Command and Control is the first book in the Alaskan Security - GHOST Operative series, and I am seriously in love with Vincent and Julieanne’s story!! Janice not only exceeded my expectations, she also turned up the heat to blazing inferno!! Seriously, the spice in this book is insane!!

I loved how Janice pulled us into this storyline, and these characters! If you’ve read the Alaskan Security books, you’ve met Vincent and know he’s not a man to mess with. Unless your name is Heidi. This book dives into his character and makes you understand the way that he is. And Julieanne is his perfect counterpart!! I loved the cat and mouse, the banter, the spice!!

I love when a book with a mystery can still surprise me, and Janice was able to do that with this one! She kept me on my toes throughout the whole book!

I also loved that Janice found a way to include the Rogue team in this book, especially Heidi! Her interactions with Vincent in the previous books were hysterical! She and Julieanne seemed to be cut from the same cloth when it comes to how much they enjoy messing with Vincent!

I can’t wait to read more in the Alaskan Security world!

Thanks Janice and Julie for the advance copy!

AUDIOBOOK NARRATORS: Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter
AUDIO RELEASE DATE: 04/25/2024
NARRATION RATING: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
---
I absolutely love that Jason and Stella took on the characters of Vincent and Julieanne! When Janice first teased that there was going to be narration for this book, I wondered if Jason was going to do it. I am obsessed with Jason’s deep, growly voice, and I thought he was the perfect Vincent! I love how he conveyed Vincent’s emotions! He really brought me in and sucked me even more into this story! I also died laughing when he took on Heidi’s character because he brought that character to life too with her sass!

Stella was phenomenal as Julieanne!! I love the spunk and sass she brought to the character as I think that is exactly the type of character that Janice/Jemma wrote for Julieanne.

Holy smokes! How did my kindle not burst into flames from the heat? This is the story we have all been waiting for! Jemma Westbrook, AKA Janice Whiteaker, completely knocked her writing game out of the park with Command and Control! The character surprises and spice left me stunned like I’ve never experienced before!

Julieanne wants to work for GHOST. Why settle for a simple job interview when you can demonstrate your computer skills in your own special way? Oh, that’s right, they’re a secret private company. This woman knows what she wants, and she wants Vincent after her first sight of him on her monitor. She likes to play with fire and doesn’t care if she gets burned, just as long as she gets laid.

In the beginning, Vincent was in complete denial about his attraction to Julianne. He insists that she’s only a target because she dared to breach their system. When her face filled his computer screen, she brought out the possessive side of him, and he is gone!

He’s like The Wizard of Oz because he gives the illusion that he’s bad and mean, but we get a peek behind the curtain and find out what he’s really about. She brings out a side of him we never suspected! This man is all in or all out in everything in his life.

Vincent and Julieanne are both written in a tone that is different than I expected. I thought she would be more demure, but her snark and attitude are a style that Westbrook is known for with many of her female characters. The cat-and-mouse game they played with each other was brilliant, hot and had me laughing hysterically.

There are elements that I recognize as typical Jemma/Janice writing, but she just upped her game with this no-holds-barred story. I have a feeling that this will be her style from here on out. Yes!!

I feel bad for the next book I read because it can’t top this one!

I received an ARC and I'm freely reviewing.

Can I just say, wow?!? Like holy moly. Vincent is unbelievable!! Sure, Julianne is pretty amazing too, lol. This book immediately pulled me in and I drooled all over my kindle. It was a little awkward at work, haha. Vincent is a hard as nails alpha male that is immediately taken when he hears/sees Julieanne. He fights the attraction as long as he can and then the combustion happens and it is glorious! Julianne is a techy genius that is sarcastic and no nonsense. She's had a rough go of things but is determined to do what is best for her from now on and it works. These characters are brilliant and thrilling. This is a book that you will be sad to see it end. I loved it and cannot wait for more.

Beauty and the Beast meets Fifty Shades of Gray vibes.

Nothing like another strong woman that's tired of being underappreciated to bring one of the Alaskan men we love to hate to his knees.

Vincent is the silver mercenary fox that runs GHOST and Julieanne is a hacker trying her best to get Vincent's attention to hire her. She gets his attention, but it might be more than she bargained for.

"It's easy to be naughty when you think no ones watching, but doing it knowing it will likely result in a giant, angry, silver fox mercenary chasing after you? Honestly, that sounds f@#-fantastic. Terrifyingly fantastic." -Julieanne

Even in love, Vincent is still creepy.

I really didn't enjoy this one. It featured Vincent, the shady and unpleasant leader of GHOST, which already had me worried. Then he turned out to be obsessed with the woman who hacked his supposedly impenetrable firewall. She's a little needy; he's into dominance... Ick. So there's also some life and death struggles with criminals, but the plot takes up far fewer pages than than Vincent's declarations that Julieanne's body and soul are his now, his punishments when she doesn't obey his orders to strip fast enough, and his signature move of slapping her breasts. I repeat, ick.

Command and Control by Jemma Westbrook (janice whiteaker) is an exhilarating and captivating novel that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The central characters, Vincent and Julieanne, are an unforgettable duo with undeniable chemistry. Vincent's enigmatic silver fox and Julieanne's fiery spirit create a tantalizing dynamic that is both alluring and dangerous.

Westbrook's writing is sharp and witty, with a keen eye for detail and a gift for creating suspense. The action sequences are heart-pounding and the plot twists are unpredictable, leaving me guessing until the very end (seriously was NOT expecting it). The author's ability to balance intense action with moments of vulnerability and humor is truly remarkable.

One of the highlights of the book is the banter between Vincent and Julieanne. Their constant testing of each other's limits and Julieanne's playful defiance of Vincent's dominant tendencies add a layer of intrigue and excitement to the story. The undeniable connection between these two characters is both electrifying and endearing.

Another aspect that I thoroughly enjoyed was the inclusion of fan-favorite characters from the Alaskan Security series (zeke, pierce and more!). It was a delight to see these familiar faces and witness their interactions with the new characters. This seamless weaving of storylines only enhances the overall depth and richness of the Ghost universe.

My favorite quotes from the book perfectly encapsulate the essence of the characters and the story. 'She's a f**cking menace' captures Julieanne's unapologetic attitude and her ability to get under Vincent's skin. 'He rang that motherf**ker like the town was burning down' vividly portrays Vincent's passion (in more ways than one) ;).

Overall, Command and Control is an exceptional novel that delivers on all fronts. It is a gripping thriller with a captivating cast of characters, a tantalizing blend of action and suspense, and a satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense with a touch of humor and a whole lot of heart. I eagerly anticipate the next installment in the Ghost series and can't wait to see what Jemma Westbrook has in store for us next.

Wow what an amazing read this is. Vincent is so awesome. Hard on the outside gooey for his angel face on the inside this book had the perfect balance of thrill angst and my personal favorite romance. The romance was hot hot 🔥. The twist and turns I did not expect just made this book even better. You knew Vincent had a back story but truthfully it was not brought up often you just knew his past defined the man he was. Angel face was way too smart for her own good. Hence why two people who would have never met up did. A meeting on zoom defined their future relationship. Once Vincent got out of his own way it was a magical trip on romance and suspense and a twist I never saw coming this is what makes this author amazing at what she does.

Vincent and Jules

Just. So. Good!

As with every other story in this series, I couldn't read fast enough. Understanding the hows and whys of what makes Vincent tic has been a big want for me, and it was great to see how he becomes entangled with Jules. These two are perfect for each other - steamy chemistry, sweet interchanges, and very entertaining!

This kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen between these two and how the dangers of GHOST would impact her well-being. I couldn't imagine the twist of who caused the drama!

Heidi is absolutely amazing, and I loved watching her interact with Vincent and Pierce once again - no fear!

Read in order! I can't wait for more! Sooo good!

This book grabbed me from the first page. A good mental game of cat and mouse. Vincent is all hard edges, he has to be. Until Julieanne appears to break through his code, software, fire wall, the impenetrable. She thought it was a good audion, a job interview, but she was wrong.

We do get to see our friends from Alaska Security, but this book can stand alone. If you are looking for a fast moving, action packed, steam, and suspense, I recommend this book.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This was an incredible book and an amazing storyline. Our hero has always been Mr grumpy pants but when he meets his lady she not only turns him and his life upside down but he finds to his amazement that now he has her he doesn’t want to lose her and beware if you do something to take her, as the powerful Vincent comes back in action to take those out who dared to take what is his. I will definitely be reading this again as Jemma aka Janice hit it out of the park with the characters!!!!!

Vincent is hot, HOT, H.O.T.! He is totally a silver fox ahole who doesn’t smile and doesn’t laugh until a frustrating happy woman does him in. I loved seeing him opening himself to the sunshine Julieanne brings his way. She’s not afraid of his grumpy self and super sassy and he brings to her life everything that she didn’t have in her life. Jemma Westbrook outdid herself in this book! I love her writing and I especially love the names of the chapters. This book is action packed, suspenseful and super steamy and I loved every word.

Such a great love story between a silver fox and his sassy hacker. This story started out a little slow but definitely heated up. There’s tons of steam and the middle is action packed. I loved seeing the Alaskan Security team again and getting to know the Ghost team a bit more. There is a bit of betrayal but you’ll have to read to find out who ;) this is a lightening fast romance with lots of steam and action.

If there ever was a person more of an enigma than Vincent I haven‘t heard of him. So being able to read his story was Eye opening! It explains so much and boy is he a male unicorn, enigma, puzzle and anything else you want to call it. So Ghost is definitely fitting him as no one knows him or has figured him out until her and boy did she get him twisted up. It was funny to read and such a excellent storyline.

It is hard to come up with the words to describe how much I loved Julianne and Vincent. Julianne is so intelligent and caring and giving and has learned to love herself which includes decing what she wants and going for it. She is brave and strong and loving and open to allowing herself to find and accept her joy. She is absolutely a kick butt female lead. She is easy to love as soon as we see her. I want to be part of her and Heidi's friend group. Vincent is the proverbial broken hero who needs to learn to accept friendship, love and help. I adore the way he takes care of Julianne in all her needs even the ones she doesn't realize she has. I love his house and the changes he made in advance. I love how he tries so hard to be the jack@$$ he thinks he has always been. He is a near perfect male lead. I love Heidi and Pierce and Elias and even Julianne son's even though we don't see much of them. The bad guys are well hidden and difficult to guess. The suspense is spine tingling and the action is scorched earth. The story is well thought out, well crafted and fully developed. I hope we see more of Jules' sons, that would be fun.

Disappointing

Not much interaction with Alaskan Security until 80% of the book is read. Really overkill with the first 80% about Vincent "pursuing" Julianne. Got boring and repetitious. Not much storyline until near the end. A real disappointment after waiting so long. Sorry but this book just doesn't compete with all the others that I so much enjoyed.

After reading about Vincent in the previous 11 books in the Alaskan Security series, it was fascinating to get to know the man. He's not (quite) the grumpy, sometimes evil, jerk that he often seemed to be. He definitely has a heart, and we slowly get to see glimpses of that. I wish we had gotten a little more of his backstory to explain why he was so emotionally locked down. What we did get wasn't quite enough. I kept thinking that i'd turn the page and learn a little more about him that would make the case a bit more strongly for why he was the way he was. He was a really interesting character, so the big gaps in his life story make me want more. But I suppose that is part of his persona as GHOST lead, keeping things hidden.

We learn more about Julianne's life and the challenges that brought her to her current place. She is tough and wickedly smart—exactly the kind of woman Vincent would have taken by. She gives as good as she gets and is nearly fearless. They understand and are drawn to each other in a powerful way that we often do not see in older characters.

The changes we see in Vincent's personality, life, and other relationships show the effect of finding love. I was glad to see some of the positive effects that will hopefully show up in future Alaskan Security books.

Julianne's internal dialogue clues us into the fact that some of the things that attract her to Vincent arise from a painful prior marriage. She hints a few times that some of this isn't entirely healthy. I worried about that a bit for her too, but in the end it does appear to be a mostly safe relationship.

The one thing I find concerning because of both the topic and how often it appears in current romances is the "hand at the neck." I'm not sure why this is a current trend, but it is a troubling one.

The literature is clear that attempted strangulation is a reliable prognostic indicator for femicide (gender-based homicide). As a trained sexual assault nurse examiner, this is one of the key red flags in a forensic exam. A woman who has been a victim of attempted strangulation is SEVEN TIMES more likely to be killed by that partner. It's not cute or fun. It's a genuinely scary, gigantic red flag. Because I see it so often, I have begun to include my concerns in reviews of books containing strangulation scenes. I love your books, but please do your research, and please stop with this content. It normalizes abusive and risky behaviour, so women may not recognize the risk it poses to their lives.

🔥 HEAT MEETS ❤️ HEART IN HIGH-STAKES 🕵️‍♂️ SUSPENSE!

Bookworms, hold on to your panties because Jemma Westbrook's latest thrill ride, Command and Control, is hot enough to demand extra batteries and chocolate for recovery! This standalone novel set in the tantalizing world of Alaskan Security is not just a story—it's an adventure laced with danger, passion, and high stakes. The plot kicks off with a bang when Julieanne tries to land a job with the secretive security firm GHOST, only to find herself playing a seductive game of cat and mouse with the enigmatic Vincent. He's a silver fox mercenary whose icy exterior is a fortress guarding his fiery heart. Our heroine, Julieanne, is not your typical damsel; she's a tech-savvy siren with confidence and a razor-sharp wit, determined to get what she wants. When these two forces collide, it's not just sparks that fly—they ignite an inferno.

Westbrook, known for her intense character-driven narratives, does not disappoint. Vincent is a complex man, meticulously unraveled throughout the novel, revealing a blend of strength and vulnerability that makes him irresistibly intriguing. Julieanne, with her smarts and sass, is the perfect match for him, challenging his rules and rewriting the game of love. Their chemistry crackles off every page, creating a narrative that’s as fiery as it is touching. The real magic of Westbrook's writing shines in how she weaves suspense and romance into a seamless tapestry. Each twist and turn is masterfully plotted, keeping you hooked from one page to the next. The suspense doesn’t just add to the narrative; it enhances the romance, making each moment between Vincent and Julieanne pulse with urgency and depth.

Command and Control is a definitive must-read, a perfect blend of thrills and romance that Jemma Westbrook fans and new readers alike will adore. It's a heart-racing adventure that tests the boundaries of love and trust, delivering a story that crackles with action, drips with heat, and resonates with the power of deep connection. So, if you're in the mood for a story that will captivate your heart and stir your soul, make sure to pick up Command and Control. Trust me, it’s a blazing ride you won’t want to miss!

Holy, Wow!

I have read everything by Jemma Westbrook, and her alter-ego contemporary counterpart Janice Whiteaker, and nothing prepared me for the steam and intensity that is Vincent and Julieanne’s story. And when I say she took this book to the next level, I mean it. Plotline, characters, seggsy time, suspense—Command and Control has it all!

One of the really wonderful things about this book (besides the edge-of-your seat intrigue and seriously steamy intensity between the two main characters, of course) is that you can jump into this story whether you’re a long-time reader or brand new to Westbrook’s books. It is definitely related to her Alaskan Security series, but whether you dive in here or wade in from the beginning, everything you need to know about Vincent and Julianne’s HEA is in this story. No overarching plotlines to unravel. No massive backlist of characters to know. Just plunge in right here.

Oh, and make sure you have snacks, turn on your do-not-disturb notification for everything in your life, and settle in to a comfy spot. Once you pick this one up, you won’t want to put it down until you have absorbed every last crumb of goodness Westbrook dishes up.

Seriously, be prepared to luxuriate in the deep end of the pool. Because Command and Control is deep. On multiple levels. The connection between Julieanne and Vincent is intense. Both characters are beautifully developed through epic banter, beautiful internal monologue, vivid observations by and of each other, and their journey is solidly established and meticulously traced from initial contact to their ultimate HEA.

If Command and Control is your first foray into Westbrooks Alaskan Security universe, welcome to the club. I hope you’re in for an epic binge after you finish this one. If you’re a seasoned Westbrook veteran, your wait for Vincent has all been worth it. Enjoy!

A++ This book was everything! This book had me lol-ing. It surpassed all expectations and had me falling in love with Vincent.

It all started 6 months ago. Vincent had a pain and she’s named Julieanne. She kept making it past Ghost’s system and it was driving him crazy. The name of the game here is denial. Vincent just can’t acknowledge how much of his head space she’s taking up.

Too bad for him, because that’s why he’s making all types of wrong decisions. Like the one where he decided to fuck with Alaskan Security and Pierce. And boy did that backfire for him (if you know, you know).

Julieanne isn’t one to give up easily and after seeing Vincent on screen she hasn’t stopped thinking about him or the job she wants with Ghost.

Vincent shows up to scare her off for good, and his timings pretty great since some goons decide to go after her too. Luckily for Julieanne she’s a smart cookie, and knows exactly where he is when she needs help.

The action moves quickly, and eventually turn dangerous and deadly.

Vincent was great in the Alaskan Security series where we see him time and time again, but he comes alive in this book.

Julieanne’s humor literally had me laughing out loud. Don’t skip the chapter titles they’re funny too.

I’m happy to see that Ghost operatives will get standalone books through the Alaskan Security series. And it’s about time we see Zeke get his own book. We haven’t really seen him since Pierce and Mona’s story. I’ll definitely be on the look out for Shadow’s series.

—— Pierce is too cute! It was good to see both Heidi and Pierce’s characters again.

Pierce "You could've just fucking told me you needed to pick a fight so you could pretend she didn't exist. I would've set something up."

Vincent: I stare back at him, shocked at his accurate assessment.

Pierce: And Pierce just fucking laughs in my face. "Don't look so surprised." He smirks. "I’ve picked more than a few fights because of my wife." He glances over one shoulder as the head of Shadow, the Alaskan Security team I used to work with regularly, approaches. "Ask Zeke. He was usually who I fought with."

Vincent and Julieanne

This book was a surprise for me. I was expecting Zeke’s story next, so Vincent took me by surprise. It was an excellent redemption story for him and he turned out to be quite the book boyfriend. It was fast paced and exciting and the suspense was very well intertwined into the story.

Vincent was a very layered character. Heather had walls on top of walls and refused to be anything but a closed off grump. But from the moment Julieanne hacks GHOST, Vincent’s life is irrevocably changed. It takes six months, but he finally decides to track her down, and just in time. Because Julieanne is now being targeted by an unknown entity just days after Vincent arrives in Nashville.

With Julieanne’s life in danger, Vincent takes her back to Alaska with him while his team tries to figure out who is behind the attack on her. He moves her into his home, that he’s never let anyone else into. And Julieanne is privy to a whole new side of Vincent. She uncovers his reasons for keeping everyone at arms length, but also discovers everything he’s done to prepare his house for the eventuality that Julieanne would be with him.

While this book was a little slow to start, I loved the plot. Vincent was a very caring man who hid his heart behind steel doors of indifference and arrogance, but for Julieanne he couldn’t keep up the facade. I loved the ending and the way things worked out with Pierce and Alaskan security. I felt like it was a true HEA, and not just for Vincent’s romantic life, but for his professional one as well.

I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series and went in to this one blind. I can tell you now…that is going to change. Protector MMC’s are my absolute favorite and Vincent takes that role and owns it to his core. Although he has never been in a relationship before, he loses himself completely the minute Julieanne pops up on his screen asking for a job.

There are so many aspects to this story that I love. Julieanne’s character is older and so confident despite not getting her dream job. She has some creeper tendencies herself and isn’t shy about what she wants. Vincent is all hard edges and broody boss but his defenses crumble around Julieanne. This creates such a fun dynamic and a great story. Their banter was on another level but Julieanne didn’t give any bratty vibes which was refreshing. Vincent owns his alpha role in this relationship and brings the heat when he needs to!

Then we have the suspense and plot. Even though there are a lot of references to previous storylines, I do not feel like I am missing anything in regard to this book. The author did a great job providing enough info and backstory to really understand the dynamic between GHOST and Alaskan Security without creating a feeling that I needed to read the previous books to appreciate this one. I will read the previous books simply because I liked this one so much!

OMG! LOVE this book! a Must read!

I absolutely loved this book and did not want to see it end. Vincent is every bit the bad ass he comes across as throughout this series. I love his take charge personality, including his grumpiness. I love it even more that he’s super sweet to Julieanne even when he’s irritated. She’s his perfect match. She’s not afraid of him at all and even challenges him. She’s his perfect equal.
I really like it that majority of this book is of only the 2 of them. I got to really see their relationship grow into such a strong cohesive unit. He’s been trying for resist her and finally has to give in to his desires and seek her out. They’ve both been fascinated of each other and their interactions are hot. Their sex is over the top hot and intense but also sweet. The action is also very exciting. There’s also a tie-in with the Alaskan Securities group with Pierce & Heidi.
Between their romance and the action and the plot, this book kept me enthralled. I was struggling between wanting to devour it quickly and not wanting it to end. Even though I can read this anytime for free with my KU subscription, I will buy this book so that I can reread it again and again easily. I highly recommend this book! You will love it too. I also recommend this series and in fact, plan to read it again from the beginning.
